Chapter 14: Dragon Blood Bat

Plowman swept away thorns and shrubs with his sword as he moved through the forest. Unlike Lolan Hill, he could not walk through the woods effortlessly.

He had to carve out a path for himself, sometimes even climbing over rocks, using both hands and feet.

Since he became a Supernatural Rank 2, his stamina had become incredibly robust, and his strength had increased significantly. Walking in the mountainous area was not tiring for him.

After half a day of travel, he arrived at the location indicated by the young lady.

On the slanted rock covered with moss, there was a cave underneath. Underground water flowed from inside, and the dragon blood bat was likely hiding within.

Plowman first cleared the stones around the area to avoid tripping during the battle. Then, he pulled down some branches and fixed them to create several enclosed spaces, so when the bat tried to dodge, it would face obstacles. At worst, these could serve as a rear defense to prevent it from attacking from behind.

Finally, he collected dry leaves and placed them at the cave entrance, lit them, and directed the thick smoke towards the cave, preparing to drive the bat out.

The smoke rose gently. Plowman held his sword with both hands, standing beside the cave entrance, fully focused, listening intently, ready to strike the moment the bat appeared.

After a while, just as Plowman’s attention began to waver, wind sounds came from inside the cave, and the smoke was blown out.

Here it comes.

Plowman gripped the hilt of his sword tightly.

Then, a black shadow shot out of the cave at high speed. Before Plowman could get a good look at the beast, he swung his sword from left to right diagonally.

The black shadow let out a strange cry, its sharp and piercing sound making Plowman dizzy. The shadow quickly flew into the sky.

Damn!

Due to the shadow’s incredible speed, Plowman only managed to make a shallow cut on its back, not severely injuring it.

Lolan Hill, observing everything from afar on a large tree, watched like she was watching a live movie.

Information about the bat also appeared before her eyes.

Species: Bat Mutant

Condition: Injured (Minor)

Rank: Demon Rank 3 · Dragon Blood Bat (Overall evaluation: Defective Bronze)

Talents:

【Blood Wings】(Excellent): Extremely fast flight ability, but with a defect; prolonged high-intensity flight can cause wing blood vessels to burst.

【Ultrasonic Perception】(Normal): Can perceive the environment using sound waves, unaffected by darkness or fog.

Abilities:

【Venom Fangs】(Excellent): Black fangs with decay poison, causing strong paralysis effects and various viruses, easily infecting and difficult to treat.

【Blood Suction】(Excellent): Can restore vitality and heal itself by sucking blood from other creatures.

【Split Wind Flight】(Excellent): A flying ability that splits air currents, drastically reducing air resistance and greatly enhancing flight speed. (Blood Wings -1, originally a rare ability, but due to a defect in talent, only reaches Excellent.)

Skill: 【Air Slash】(Normal): Rips the air to form a sharp blade.

Lolan Hill recalled Trinasha’s records. The dragon blood bat was a failed product of the True Red Empire around the 6300th year of the First Era.

This species was initially developed to mimic the flight ability of Rank 6 Split Wind Dragon of the True Red Empire, intended to be used as scouts and messengers in long-term wars. At that time, the empire’s opponents, the Beastmen’s Wind Empire, had many winged races, putting the empire at a disadvantage in reconnaissance.

Unfortunately, it failed. The wings of the dragon blood bat were unable to withstand the Split Wind Flight ability. The empire later abandoned further development in this direction.

Therefore, as long as Plowman could hold out and engage the bat in a protracted battle, the bat’s speed would eventually decrease.

However, the youth did not have the patience to wait. His current thought was that the teacher must be watching from afar, and he had to show his best and strongest side, cleanly and decisively solving the enemy.

He roared loudly, attracting the bat’s attention and leading it to the previously set location.

The black bat screeched sharply in the air, then dived down in a large arc, reaching Plowman in an instant without making much noise.

The speed was too fast for anyone to react. Plowman had not reached the predetermined spot yet, so he hastily defended himself, his sword tip moving upward diagonally.

Sharp claws scratched against the black sword body, and Plowman barely deflected the venomous fangs, preventing them from biting him.

However, the stench of decay hit him, making him feel dizzy.

Not good, this stench is toxic.

Plowman realized something was wrong and stepped back, leaning against a tree to start searching for the bat.

The bat circled above for a while before diving again, cutting through the air with a rapid arc. Several wind blades shot out along with the flapping of its wings.

This disrupted Plowman’s rhythm. With limited combat experience and unable to sense and move as accurately as Lolan Hill, he could only block the critical wind blades, leaving him wounded.

“Really weak,” Lolan Hill said from a distant tree branch, supporting her head with her hands, watching her clumsy student fight.

Is it because I taught him poorly? She started to doubt herself.

In fact, although Plowman wasn’t a genius, he had progressed very quickly. Never having systematically learned knowledge, he was once a malnourished poor youth.

In just three months, spending every day learning various things and practicing swordsmanship, he had already made significant progress. Even in the present Western Wind Kingdom, he was considered a rare prodigy at his age.

Unfortunately, Lolan Hill was trained by a witch of the Mercury Dynasty, and her own terrifying talent meant her standards were too high.

After several exchanges, Plowman finally understood the bat’s tactics and began to stabilize his position. He started adjusting his position and direction, slowly exhausting the bat’s stamina and leading it to the pre-set location.

After circling for a while, the dragon blood bat’s wings turned red, and its speed slowed down. When it dived again, Plowman gripped his sword with one hand and made a sweeping motion. The dragon blood bat flipped to avoid it. At that moment, Plowman’s left fist, which had been tucked at his waist, suddenly struck, hitting the bat and sending it into the tree web.

It was too late for the bat to change direction; it crashed into the tree branches. However, its flesh wings were resilient and sustained no serious damage. It could roll and adjust its posture to fly again.

But Plowman wouldn’t give it a chance. He grabbed one of the wings, ignoring the scratches on his arm from the claws, and held his sword in his right hand, thrusting it into the bat’s chest, pinning it to the tree trunk.

The dragon blood bat struggled for a while, bleeding profusely, before finally dying.

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Plowman felt the pain from his injuries. He grimaced as he peeled off his clothes, found the water bag in his pouch, cleaned the wounds, and bandaged them. Only then did he breathe a sigh of relief and sit on a rock to rest.

“Quite messy,” Lolan Hill’s voice came from above. Plowman looked up to see the young lady floating down and standing next to the bat.

Gossamer particles flew out of the bat’s body, condensing into a beautiful red gem in her hand.

【Crimson Gem】(Perfect Black Iron): Collected with most of its power intact, but due to the core being defective, it could only be downgraded to Black Iron.
