Chapter 14

“Ms. Milani, I have something to tell you.”

“A last will?”

Milani cracked a not-so-funny joke.

While saying that, she embedded the last magical stone into the groove on the stone slab.

As the slab trembled violently, the carved Magical Guiding Matrix slowly lit up, connecting all the nodes in an instant.

The Eye of the Mind, intricately carved in the center of the Magical Guiding Matrix, appeared increasingly lifelike and terrifying.

It felt as though some powerful and eerie entity was peering into his soul through the slab.

Seeing this, Lynn shifted to an anxious tone and spoke up, “Oxygen is toxic! If we don’t get out of here, we’re going to die really soon!”

“Let’s save the jokes for later,” Milani giggled a few times, seemingly amused.

Clearly, that was not going to cut it.

Lynn understood that oxygen couldn’t possibly be toxic.

On the contrary, without oxygen, humans would definitely perish.

For humans, that’s common sense, an unchangeable rule.

The Liars’ Devourer was only at level one, incapable of distorting common knowledge.

So as soon as the lie was spoken, it was immediately seen through.

But Lynn didn’t get discouraged; he pondered for a moment and continued, “It’s just so hot in here.”

In fact, being underground in the manor, it was perpetually damp and devoid of sunlight.

It was hardly cold, and certainly not hot at all.

So this was a lie.

Upon hearing Lynn’s words, Milani paused, seemingly deep in thought.

After a moment, she hesitantly nodded, tugging at the collar of her white coat in an attempt to let in some air: “I guess it’s a bit off; it isn’t really hot. Besides, you’re not even wearing a single piece of clothing—stop making excuses.”

Another lie was exposed.

But this time it felt different.

Lynn clearly noticed that this lie had gained Milani’s trust, albeit briefly.

This was because the feeling of heat differed from rules and common knowledge; it was a highly subjective thought that could change anytime and anywhere.

Some people even feel cold in midsummer, while others frolic in t-shirts during freezing winter days.

After this attempt, Lynn vaguely sensed that he was starting to grasp the usage of the Liars’ Devourer.

Meanwhile, a light bulb flickered in his mind.

He decided to revise his previous judgment about this ability.

In fact, if used correctly, it would definitely allow him to escape this experiment unscathed.

However, he needed to try it a bit more.

“This experiment is a hundred percent going to fail.”

“Stop talking defeatist! It’s definitely going to work!”

“Ms. Milani, you’ve fallen in love with me.”

“I deeply love every experimental subject—on the condition that you survive.”

“Ms. Milani, I’m actually quite ugly.”

“Hmm.”

“Hey, don’t believe that!”

Minutes later, Milani wrapped up all her preparations for the experiment.

“You were quite talkative just now,” she glanced at Lynn thoughtfully, “were you trying something?”

“But unfortunately, this is the deepest part of the ‘cellar,’ a hundred meters underground. There are still over a dozen layers above you, and even if you find a chance to escape from here, the patrol will catch you again.”

“So, drop those unnecessary thoughts. But come to think of it, having the subject carry a sense of resistance seems to affect the outcome.”

Milani sighed, “I’ll tell you the truth: Her Highness Ivyst ordered that the experiments be conducted without threatening your life. Even if it fails, you won’t die.”

Lynn’s eyes lit up, “Oh?”

“At most, you’ll just fall into a vegetative state and never wake up.”

Milani said calmly.

Now that’s even scarier!

Lynn thought to himself, but on the surface, he maintained an expression of resignation.

“Well, since you say that, I have no choice but to cooperate. But can you promise me one last condition before the experiment starts?”

“In principle, I can’t.” Milani scratched her messy short hair, “Her Highness said it’s best not to communicate with you at all after you wake up.”

“But didn’t you just have quite the lively conversation?”

“Well, I don’t really have any principles.”

Milani shrugged.

However, since her clothes were too big, part of the fabric slipped off her shoulder, exposing a patch of snowy skin.

It seemed she didn’t notice and casually pulled her outfit back up, then asked, “So, what’s your last condition?”

“Please give me a mirror.”

Milani pondered for a moment, turned around, and rummaged through the clutter on the table, eventually pulling out a palm-sized vanity mirror, displaying it before Lynn.

“Here you go,” she recalled his earlier words and couldn’t help but facepalm, “You really are narcissistic.”

“What can I say? It’s a blessing from my ancestors.”

Lynn replied casually.

Then he raised his head to look at the mirror Milani held up.

The boy reflected in the mirror was handsome with an aristocratic aura, his striking blue eyes sparkling brightly.

However, Lynn didn’t ask for the mirror just to admire his own stunning looks before the experiment.

His intention was quite simple.

Gazing at the other version of himself in the mirror, Lynn took a deep breath and activated the Liars’ Devourer once again.

Simultaneously, he muttered to himself in his mind, I’m going to lie to myself!

Milani was already on high alert, ready to sound the alarm.

Because in this situation, his calm request for a mirror seemed downright bizarre.

Considering the odd questions he asked before, Milani couldn’t help but wonder.

Although he was just an ordinary guy, he was, after all, someone Her Highness had specifically warned about.

But driven by professional curiosity, she wanted to see what Lynn intended to do.

In the end, he merely took a brief glance in the mirror, as if reminiscing about his appearance, before sighing, “Please proceed.”

Hearing this, Milani was confused but nodded anyway.

No matter what, the experiment was what mattered most.

With that thought, she quickly pushed her confusion aside, being the experiment enthusiast that she was.

Milani walked over to the stone slab, checking the integrity of the Magical Guiding Matrix and the connection of the helmet one last time.

Then, she exchanged a glance with Lynn, grabbed a handful of silvery powder from a nearby jar, and gently scattered it over the Magical Guiding Matrix and the carved Eye of the Mind in the center.

“Boom——”

As silvery flames erupted, a light far brighter than before filled the entire underground laboratory like a mini sun!

Milani squinted, shielding her forehead with her palm, fixated on the figure in the center of the radiance.

Powerful energy surged into the helmet as if it were tangible, transforming into whispers and suggestions echoed constantly in his ears.

This force felt like a cleansing of the mind, capable of imprinting the trigger for hypnosis deep within his personality!

After what felt like an eternity, the glow from the stone slab gradually dimmed.

Milani’s heartbeat quickened slightly.

She always experienced this flutter when the results of experiments were revealed.

Once the Magical Guiding Matrix on the slab calmed completely and all the instruments ceased buzzing, she then approached the boy seated in the chair swiftly.

“How do you feel?”

“I feel awful.”

The sluggish reply came from him.

Milani propped his head up and looked at him.

She saw his once brilliant blue eyes had dimmed, now dull and vacant.

He seemed like a robot, programmed only to follow orders.

Could it be… the experiment succeeded?!
