Chapter 138: Overthinking Arthur
Faced with Airael’s question, Arthur opened his mouth to say something, but then promptly shut it again.
“What on earth do you want to say?”
Airael was getting a bit impatient at this point.
“Just spit it out already; if you don’t want to, then forget it.”
As she spoke, she took off her cloak.
At this moment, there was no need for her to hide anything anymore.
Airael’s expression was now completely exposed to Arthur.
“You… just now…”
Arthur pondered for a moment, gazing at Airael, but just as he started to speak, he found himself unable to continue.
Mainly, he realized that he might have been a little hasty just now.
He wanted to ask Airael why she went back to her own room instead of coming to his.
It seemed like her attitude had become somewhat cold.
But upon reflection, he found no fault in Airael returning to her room.
Although they had crossed the last line together, their relationship still wasn’t exactly open and aboveboard, but rather something kept behind closed doors.
So, it didn’t seem appropriate for him to run after her just to ask about it.
As for why her attitude had suddenly changed to chilly, he had temporarily overlooked that.
“What happened just now?”
Noticing that something was off, Airael decided to patiently inquire.
With his mind in turmoil, Arthur bit his lip and asked directly, “Why didn’t you come back to my room with me?”
Airael was momentarily taken aback by this question.
After a long pause, she finally responded, looking at Arthur and asking, “Did you really come all this way just to ask me that?”
“Of course not!”
Now that he had voiced his question, Arthur felt a lot better and suddenly remembered something he had overlooked.
“What else is there?”
Airael continued to look at Arthur, pressing him for more.
“Did I do something wrong? You seem to have some issues with me.”
Pfft!
At his words, Airael couldn’t help but laugh.
She found Arthur to be adorably foolish at that moment.
He had actually come all the way to her room just to clarify those things.
The truth was, the matter had little to do with him; it was more about her own unresolved feelings.
Airael had already thought things through along the way.
Essentially, she had made some sense of it all.
At that point, she could only let it go.
Staying apart from Arthur was a losing game for her.
Continuing down this path might deepen her entanglement, but it could also bring greater opportunities.
As the saying goes, “You can’t catch tiger cubs without entering the tiger’s den!”
Furthermore, if one wants to gain something, they must also be willing to give.
Right now, she was in the stage of giving and had already gained some returns.
Not to mention, she had unexpectedly broken through to the Hero rank, which surely had a lot to do with Arthur.
Though she realized this, accepting it so easily was not going to be a piece of cake.
She still felt a bit uncomfortable inside.
That’s why she wanted some time alone to think things through.
Once she sorted her thoughts completely, she would dive back in.
Airael’s smile left Arthur feeling utterly perplexed.
First, he knew he had acted foolishly, but the second thing was genuinely a concern.
And he had come to resolve it after all.
Wouldn’t it be better to clear up unnecessary misunderstandings or clarify matters sooner rather than later?
“Ailia, what are you laughing at?”
“I’m just laughing at how much you’re overthinking things.”
Airael managed to suppress her laughter and replied.
But looking at Arthur now, she almost burst into laughter again.
So adorably foolish!
“Then why did you suddenly become so cold before?”
Upon hearing Arthur’s question, Airael’s smile faded.
Arthur’s expression grew serious as well.
The atmosphere in the room became quite tense.
“Do you really want to know?”
Airael asked in a low voice as she stared at Arthur.
This mysterious demeanor undoubtedly intensified Arthur’s curiosity.
“I want to know!”
“But I don’t want to tell you.”
At her words, Airael adopted a “I’m quite troubled” look.
Arthur stared at Airael, taken aback.
Airael showed him an innocent expression.
Although she had played a little trick on him, Airael felt it wasn’t her fault.
After all, it was him who had been overthinking and imagining things.
Realizing he had been played, Arthur wasn’t planning to let Airael off the hook so easily.
And besides, Airael had yet to tell him about the earlier matters?
“Ailia, I genuinely came to resolve the issues!”
Arthur felt his head was about to explode.
Ailia’s change in attitude was so sudden.
He had only just noticed it all at once.
“I know, but we don’t have any issues to resolve right now!”
Even if there were, it wasn’t something he could solve!
After answering, Airael silently added that in her heart.
Those matters between them ultimately needed her to think them through clearly.
She had to try to persuade herself to accept everything.
Even if Arthur could do something about it, she didn’t want him to have to exclusively do that.
Because in that case, the nature of their relationship would change.
Seeing Airael’s convinced expression, Arthur couldn’t help but feel a bit self-doubtful.
At that moment, Airael didn’t seem to be lying; could it be that his earlier intuitions were just a mistake?
“Really?”
“Really!”
Airael confirmed emphatically.
Once that was said, she looked at Arthur with a mock reproachful expression, “Don’t you trust me?”
“Ailia, I believe you, but you…”
Arthur didn’t finish his sentence and turned to glance at Airael’s room.
Airael followed Arthur’s gaze, checking her own room.
There was nothing wrong with her room, but combining that with the question Arthur had just asked, it wasn’t hard for her to guess what was currently on his mind.
This was her room, and for the past few days, she had spent the nights in Arthur’s room.
Yet today, she had returned to her own room instead of staying with Arthur.
So that triggered the earlier questions.
After connecting the dots, Airael felt utterly speechless.
He really did overthink everything!
And was she really the kind of girl who threw petty tantrums?
Thinking that way, Ailia realized she might be the one at a disadvantage.
Even though she didn’t want to be that spoiled, overly temperamental girl, she couldn’t just keep giving in without anything in return; Arthur should also respond to her somehow.
Saying some cheesy lines was one thing, but she couldn’t handle that either.
Yet, giving a little heartfelt gift should be fine, right?
Not asking for anything extravagant, just something with thought behind it.
After all, she wasn’t short on money!
But so far, she hadn’t received even a single gift.
Seeing Airael’s abruptly cold demeanor, Arthur suddenly felt even more hesitant to speak.
Fine! It was his fault; he shouldn’t have overthought things.
