“Are you asking me to recommend that girl for a job at the store?”
To the old shopkeeper, the promises made by Senior Chāngpú were far less valuable than her past work experience. But if someone already working in the store recommended her, the chances would be much higher.
“Exactly, as the condition for us keeping this a secret, it shouldn’t be too difficult, right?”
“I’ve only been here for two weeks myself. My words might not carry much weight. Perhaps what the regular customer says would be more effective.”
The regular customer naturally referred to Zhào Zhào.
She put down her crossed legs and leaned forward with one hand on the table, suspiciously saying:
“And how can I be sure you won’t use this against me later?”
Miss Jiū was indeed an elite security force from the girls’ school. Just her action of leaning on the table seemed like she was interrogating a prisoner. However, I held the initiative in the conversation, feeling secure.
I turned to look towards the bar area. The shopkeeper was arguing with Zhào Zhào, while Senior Chāngpú became a mere background figure, which wasn’t a good sign.
“First, there’s no reason for me to oppose you, right? Second, I’m friends with Senior Lǐ Jiànlián. If I let you lose your part-time job, how will I face him afterward?”
When I mentioned my brother’s name, she sat back down. I continued to persuade her along this line of thought.
“Moreover, that girl is very close to your younger brother, isn’t she?”
She leaned forward to scrutinize Senior Chāngpú for a moment before making up her mind.
“I understand. I’ll help you this once.”
“It’s not about helping me, but helping your brother.”
“Don’t joke around. If you’re lying to me, even if you’re a student from the boys’ school, I have ways to punish you.”
As she left, I couldn’t move immediately and had to wait for Xiǎo Lěi to push my wheelchair over.
“Oh? You want to recommend Little Chou? Do you know her?”
Miss Jiū had already spoken directly to the shopkeeper, while Senior Chāngpú looked complicatedly at her older sister, likely guessing whether we had told her everything.
“It’s a bit complicated…” Miss Jiū scratched her cheek, looking embarrassed.
“You don’t have to say if you don’t want to. I won’t pry,” the old shopkeeper waved his hand, interrupting her. “But if she runs away or makes a big mistake, as the recommender, you’d also be implicated, right?”
“Implied involvement?”
“It means they could fire you.”
“Ew!”
“Why? As a recommender, you should be able to handle such risks, right?”
Miss Jiū stared at Senior Chāngpú for a moment before sighing and responding, “I understand. I accept this condition.”
Indeed, the shopkeeper was quite cunning. This move was quite clever.
At first glance, it seemed like a loss. If one person ran away, they’d fire another. Could the shop still operate?
But actually, by tying these two sisters together, it increased their cost of leaving. After all, the pay here was quite competitive.
Senior Chāngpú couldn’t easily change jobs now. He wouldn’t risk hurting his own sister, right?
“Little Chou, introduce her to the workflow and measure her size for the uniform I need to order.”
“Ah? Are all uniforms custom-made?”
Senior Chāngpú exclaimed, and I was also surprised. Little Chou’s maid outfit did seem well-made and fitted perfectly.
“Of course. A maid outfit must fit well to look good.”
Because custom-made clothing was expensive, the shopkeeper probably didn’t dare hire a frequent job hopper.
Although there were some twists, the main goal was achieved today.
Senior Chāngpú followed Little Chou to learn humbly. Since I didn’t intend to consume anything, I felt awkward sitting there and planned to leave with Xiǎo Lěi first. Zhao Zhào would accompany Senior Chāngpú.
Before leaving, I whispered to Senior Chāngpú, “Xiǎo Lěi and I are going home. Zhao Zhào will keep you company. I haven’t told your sister about your identity. It’s up to you to decide whether to tell her.”
“Ah, Will Senior Cháng Kǎi leave? How long will this situation continue?”
“After your part-time job ends, call me when you find a place to change clothes.”
“Again, do I need to rent a very expensive room? And I don’t have my ID…”
“The toilet stalls in the men’s bathroom work too, if you can accept it.”
“How can you ask a girl to change clothes in the men’s bathroom!” Xiǎo Lěi crossed her arms in opposition, giving a sensible suggestion. “Near the commercial area, isn’t Fēi’s house still empty?”
Xiǎo Lěi referred to the two bungalows at the Bridge Road Maintenance Station. Although the living conditions were poor, they were enough as a temporary changing room for transformations.
Since Fēi didn’t need the house, borrowing the key shouldn’t be difficult if I explained the situation.
After solving Senior Chāngpú’s problem, Xiǎo Lěi and I were about to leave when the bald shopkeeper called out to me.
“Hey, young man, do you need a job?”
“…Old sir, aren’t you only hiring female waitresses?”
“With your looks, if you’re willing to wear women’s clothing, such rules aren’t set in stone…”
What kind of thing is that? A handsome boy maid? No, it’s still called a maid? Wearing women’s clothing as a male servant?
No wonder he gets along with Zhào Zhào. Even at his age, he’s so eccentric.
“Forget it! Goodbye!”
I urged Xiǎo Lěi to escape from “Kamehameha.” We had dinner at the Balance Commercial District, and of course, I paid. Xiǎo Lěi had no money, and I was relatively well-off lately, having earned an extra thousand yuan.
It was already eight o’clock when I got home, and my father grumbled a bit. Using crutches, I went upstairs and saw Xiǎo Lěi and Xiǎo Lěi playing on the carpet, with the TV and PS4 on.
“What? This boss is weak! Go for his crotch!” Only to hear Xiǎo Lěi giving orders… What is she talking about with a child!
“When did Xiǎo Qiǎnxià come?”
“Is her name Xiǎo Qiǎnxià? When I came in, she was already playing games in your room, and I was startled.”
The white dress-clad Xiǎo Qiǎnxià nodded in agreement… It’s impressive you can get along with a child whose name you don’t even know.
Previously, Xiǎo Qiǎnxià not only developed the dangerous habit of climbing through windows but also came over when I wasn’t home. Fortunately, I’m not the type to hide dirty books under the bed.
Such bad habits are not good and need to be corrected.
Children being too immersed in games isn’t healthy either. After Xiǎo Qiǎnxià defeated the wolf holding a big sword, I turned off the PS4 and confiscated the controller.
However, the little girl wasn’t angry and instead threw herself into my arms. She really clung to me.
Sitting on the bed, I stroked Xiǎo Qiǎnxià’s head and noticed Xiǎo Lěi staring at my hand, moving her hips slightly and leaning closer…
She almost wrote “I want to be petted” on her face. I coughed twice, pretending not to notice.
“She’s the new neighbor’s child. She learned to climb through windows after seeing you do it.”
Xiǎo Lěi exclaimed, “Can such a small child climb through windows?”
“Otherwise, do you think my dad has the courage to open the door for her?”
Xiǎo Qiǎnxià spoke up, “Sister, I miss you so much~”
“Did she call you sister?”
“Seeing me in my female form, she won’t change her words.”
Pointing at myself, I said to Xiǎo Qiǎnxià, “Call me brother.”
“Sister!”
“Look.”
Xiǎo Lěi said slyly, “Let her see your male symbol!”
“I’ll be arrested for indecent exposure!”
Xiǎo Qiǎnxià tilted her head, repeating, “Nan Xing You Zhen?”
“Don’t ask! It’s too early!”
Xiǎo Lěi pointed at herself, saying to Xiǎo Qiǎnxià, “Call me sister.”
Xiǎo Qiǎnxià looked at her chest and said, “Brother?”
…Xiǎo Lěi was defeated!
Wow, she’s really innocent, naturally innocent.
Around nine o’clock, I received a call from Zhào Zhào. They had left the store. For formal work, they would finish at ten thirty, but today was just observation, without uniforms, so they left at nine.
After confirming everything was fine, I erased “Lǐ Jiànlián” from the list. They changed clothes in the men’s bathroom, though Xiǎo Lěi strongly opposed, Zhao Zhào found it acceptable.
By the way, Zhao Zhào didn’t come to pick up Xiǎo Lěi. Tonight, she would sleep at my place again.
“I want to sleep with sister!”
“No, your father won’t agree.”
“What about this brother’s father?”
“He agreed.”
Strictly speaking, Xiǎo Lěi was an orphan who appeared out of nowhere. For now, let’s consider Zhao Zhào as her father.
Once my father went to bed, I sent Xiǎo Qiǎnxià back to the Zhu family.
Even if Brother Zhú Běihǎi trusted me completely, he wouldn’t leave his daughter overnight at my place, right?
Brother Zhú smiled and nodded, “Overnight? Sure!”
Really?
“Despite her energetic appearance, she’s quiet when she sleeps at night. She’s past the age of bedwetting, so you don’t have to worry about her sleeping poorly.”
What’s wrong with this gang leader?
What does he want to do?
Is he willing to entrust his daughter to me?
Could it be because of my excellent DNA?
I’m so worried!
(Note: In the end, I still sent Xiǎo Qiǎnxià back.)
