It turns out some things just aren’t meant to be. Ever since I came down from the ceiling, that’s what I’ve been thinking.
I really wanted to fly like Iron Man, but instead, I got launched like a cannon due to the overwhelming force.
If you ask me if this existed in the Soul World, I’d have to say no. This was my own invention.
To use magic, you have to write it out yourself, and it doesn’t matter if you use your fingers or your toes.
There are even magicians who’ve lost both hands. Plus, living in the wilderness makes your toes surprisingly flexible.
Of course, the result was an explosion. I completely forgot that using magic up close would lead to one.
Thankfully, my body was pretty sturdy; if it was someone else, their ankles might have just flown off.
“Attention, everyone! As you just saw with Student Sivar, even Basic Magic can be extremely dangerous. Those with exceptionally high magic power might find it hard to control, and casting magic in close quarters can lead to a massive explosion. Just be careful with these things, and magic isn’t a danger at all.”
After causing a big ruckus, Godin used me as an example.
I didn’t have much to say, so I listened without complaints. Godin didn’t mean any malice.
From his point of view, it’s like there’s a bomb packed with gunpowder sitting right in front of him. There’s no way he can’t pay attention.
“Now then, Sivar? Shall we train together?”
“Sure.”
“Honestly, your magic is really strong, so it might be tricky to work on finer details. Even if you try to control it, the destructive force will still be significant.”
I had no intention of controlling its might. More importantly, I wasn’t going down the path of a magician.
The defensive magic Godin would teach me later is merely something I need to be aware of.
Moreover, that magic benefits from having plenty of magic power. It consumes a ton.
“So let’s put off the fine-tuning for now and start with positioning. Do you know how to position yourself when casting magic?”
“I don’t.”
“It’s simple. Just point to where you write the word with your finger. Easy, right?”
Sure, it’s easy. The problem is if you can’t write the word properly, there’s a risk of an explosion from your finger.
As I’ve mentioned, the language of the world holds great significance. It’s fundamental to magic.
That’s why I continually study the language. One day, I’ll have lots of opportunities to use it, so I must study.
“Shall we try it out now? Since fire pillars can be dangerous, let’s create a water pillar first. You know the word, right?”
“Yep.”
Magic is like an AI creating a picture; you just need to combine various words to produce a single result.
If the result comes out well, you can change the words you’re saying. Well, not me right now.
Following Godin’s instructions, I wrote the word for water pillar with my finger.
Then I pointed my finger at the ground and quietly muttered.
“Water pillar.”
Just to be safe, I dialed down my power as much as I could. A disaster like before would be a huge problem.
I reduced it quite a bit… about 10%? That should be enough, I thought.
WHOOOOOOSH!!
Before I knew it, a colossal stream of water shot up from the spot my finger pointed. It was like a hot spring bursting instead of a mere well.
“Uh… the water pillar is pretty big? Did you control it too?”
Godin asked while staring dumbfounded at the towering pillar of water, with water cascading down like rain from it.
I scratched my head as I gazed at the relentless column of water, replying, “Yep, I did.”
“…But when will it stop?”
“I don’t know.”
“Since it’s a blanket-type magic, it will keep going until the magic runs out…”
Fortunately, the water pillar vanished before long.
It was only the sheer power from my red magic that made it so strong; the duration was short.
However, the entire practice room was drenched, making it quite a chore to clean up.
“Hahaha. Student Sivar’s magic is really strong. Too strong, in fact.”
“Is that a compliment?”
“It is, but magic is like fire. It can be a great help to us but can also cause harm at times. You need to learn how to control it finely.”
Controlling red magic finely is tough for me too. It devours even condensation and sculpting magic like candy.
I wonder if I can even control it. It’s like a raging beast.
‘Maybe Godin could help in theory?’
That seems likely. But for that, I would need to talk to Godin separately.
This is because Godin doesn’t know I have red magic. He’s not completely oblivious; he’s probably caught on somewhat.
‘Besides, I need to check on how his research on magic is coming along.’
I also need to see what Grace is helping Godin with.
To do that, I have to go to the research room… so I guess I can just ask Grace soon.
Or I could mention it now. I looked around and cautiously called Godin.
“Godin, I have a favor to ask.”
“What is it? If it’s about magic, I’ll help you with all my heart.”
Once I mentioned I had a request, Godin responded as if it was no trouble at all. I moved closer to him.
Then, I looked around and lowered my head so only we could see.
Since Godin and I are around the same height, we could huddle together quite easily.
Pop!
I let out my red magic from my finger. I had adjusted it to be as weak as possible.
Even so, it surged up like a lighter flame. It wasn’t hot or anything though.
“This is…”
“My magic. Red. It’s hard to control because of this.”
My magic’s red color makes it tough to manage. I can’t help but ask if there’s a way around it.
Godin furrowed his brow, appearing to think hard.
No one in the academy could rival Godin theoretically. That’s why I asked like this.
I never had the chance to learn magic before, making it tough to approach, but today is different. It’s about slowly getting closer.
“Red magic… it’s said to be the essence of life itself… is that why it’s been hard to control its power?”
“…”
“Hmm… I’ll need to look into this in my research room. After class, will you come by with Grace?”
“Got it.”
Great. Things were going in the direction I wanted.
I thanked Godin for his willingness to help, and he brushed it off, saying it was his duty.
“By any chance, does the principal know about this?”
“Yeah, he knows.”
“I see. It’s best to keep it under wraps if possible. It’s not exactly a good thing.”
Already feeling anxious about it. I hope I won’t get sick or anything from this.
My red magic has not only persisted through my berserk state but has also remained steadfast.
Even in the Soul World, there wasn’t a proper explanation for it, leaving it still a mystery.
“Professor! I need help for a moment!”
“Yes. Please wait just a moment. While you practice magic, do it… reasonably.”
It sounds like he’s saying not to cause any trouble and to sit still, or is it just me?
I turned my gaze toward Godin’s back as he headed off to assist the student and then looked away.
The direction I turned was where the big water pillar had just erupted. No surprise, it was soaked.
“Hmm…”
Should I hold back? Or should I just go all out and do it?
I deliberated and surveyed my surroundings.
Luna and Kara, everyone, seemed absorbed in their magic practice.
“Combining water and lightning. How’s that? Pretty awesome, right?”
“Wow… what are you even doing? You’re the worst no matter when I see you.”
“It’s super easy, so why don’t you try it too, sis?”
It seems Luna has already moved to the stage of elemental combinations.
The combo of water and lightning is hard to block unless you put up a wall made of earth or stone.
‘She’s remarkable.’
I don’t think I need to worry about Luna’s magic. I don’t know which path she’ll take, but she’ll handle it just fine.
I shifted my gaze away from them and looked at the ground. It was finally time to have some fun.
Of course, I wouldn’t cause trouble for anyone else. This is purely for my own amusement.
‘First, I’ll lower my power to about 5%, and I’ll need to adjust the range and power as well…’
I added things based on the knowledge I gained from the Soul World, just like how AI combines words to draw pictures.
I just needed to slap a few modifiers next to the water pillar, and it’d be done. Luckily, this also helped me realize my language skills.
‘This should do it, right?’
To finish, I pointed my finger at the ground. Right then, an unusual energy surged from the floor.
As soon as I felt that energy, I immediately placed both feet on the ground.
Since the magic was already activated, it wouldn’t explode.
WHOOSH!!
Just as I expected, a massive stream of water shot up. Even though I adjusted the power, it was still considerable.
However, it didn’t shoot up like a hot spring this time. Instead, it had enough force to lift my body.
“Whoa!”
Thanks to the water stream, my body began to lift slowly. I almost lost my balance but managed to hold on.
It felt like surfing. A gigantic water pillar was supporting me.
This was something I had dallied with ever since summoning that water pillar, and it hit the mark perfectly.
“What is he doing?”
“It looks fun.”
“Should I try it too?”
My antics drew in a lot of attention. Most of the reactions were just, “Here we go again.”
But there was a distinctly different reaction this time—those from the boys.
They watched me with expressions that clearly showed they thought it looked enjoyable.
I had just barely contained myself to do this, so how couldn’t they?
“Yay!”
Clap, clap, clap!
As I spread my arms in cheer, the boys even applauded. It seems guys are all the same.
“Student Sivar, you’ll be cleaning the floor today.”
“…”
Of course, I couldn’t avoid being scolded.
“Well then, I’ll help clean up too. Since we need to go to the research room together anyway, right?”
“If Grace is willing to help, then that’s fine, but…”
“What does it matter? We’ll be hanging out together from now on.”
“?”
That was way too natural.
