Chapter 13

“This isn’t going to be an exposed way to survive…”

Since she had already read through it once, Xia’er only picked out some of the important parts to say.

Yulis listened silently, and at the end, she sighed softly.

“If I hadn’t been transferred, he wouldn’t have continued making mistakes like this…” Yulis’s voice was slightly hoarse; she covered her chest with her right hand and lowered her head slightly, seemingly in prayer.

Xia’er did not disturb her, but waited quietly for her to speak.

After a long silence, Yulis lifted her face towards Xia’er and asked:

“Is this the end of the notebook?”

“Yes,” Xia’er nodded.

“Did he switch diaries?” Recalling that Xia’er still had another notebook, Yulis continued to ask, “What was written in the other notebook?”

“No, he didn’t continue recording himself. The other notebook belongs to someone else,” Xia’er said.

“Someone else?” Yulis looked somewhat puzzled.

“His name is Thomas…”

Xia’er briefly summarized the contents of the diary. As she spoke, Yulis’ brows furrowed tightly and never relaxed until halfway through.

By the time Xia’er finished summarizing the contents of the notebook, Yulis spoke again: “Duwen was killed, but what he left behind continues to cause pain to others… How did you get these two notebooks?”

At first, Yulis was talking to herself, but later she turned her focus to Xia’er.

“The spiritual note is the most important thing for an Extraordinary Person. Although Thomas was just a half-baked one, it’s clear he wouldn’t give these criminal evidences to you.” Yulis paused for a moment, then continued, “During the walk to the side chapel earlier, I sensed your murderous intent towards me.”

Xia’er remained silent. She wasn’t surprised that the other party would suspect her because these two replicated notebooks by the system were something she couldn’t explain how she obtained.

Since a clumsy lie was unlikely to fool the other person, Xia’er decided from the start to tell the truth.

She would tell half-truths anyway, since no one would remember what she said after leaving the simulation.

“I saw the future,” Xia’er looked at Yulis seriously and said, “Future Yulis High Priestess, you told these things to my corpse, and when I woke up from the dream, I saw these two notebooks beside my bed.”

Yulis: “…”

Yulis: “?”

She slowly extended her hand and touched the girl’s forehead.

She didn’t have a fever, did she?

A little girl without any extraordinary abilities telling her she saw the future?

Moreover, Yulis didn’t sense that the person in front of her was lying.

Either she was a madwoman, or what she said was true.

“How can you prove it? Can you see the future?” Yulis retracted her right hand.

Xia’er: “At 4:45 AM today, Thomas will meet the leader of the Heishuidang at the Hammer Inn. There, Thomas will perform the final replication ritual of the Tempter, and I will also die there.”

Yulis: “Are you the sacrifice?”

Xia’er: “Yes.”

Yulis: “How did I find out? I just arrived in Borough City and will only officially start the investigation tomorrow, and besides, how could you tell me if you were dead?”

Xia’er: “I wasn’t quite dead yet when you came at the end of the ritual and killed them. After discovering their notes, you felt very guilty and involved me, deciding to leave ten thousand Su Pounds to my sister as compensation.”

As Yulis listened to Xia’er, she became increasingly alarmed because she didn’t sense that the girl opposite her was lying.

It was as if every detail that the beautiful girl named Xia’er had experienced personally. If it weren’t for the last sentence that made Yulis smell…

She didn’t taste the flavor of lying, otherwise, Yulis would have doubted if her senses had gone awry.

This girl… she really seems to be able to see the future…

The shock of this matter far exceeded the events she was currently investigating.

A powerless person could see the future?

There were only two possibilities.

An Oracle, or a Sealed Object.

But she didn’t have any aura of a Sealed Object on her.

“Which church do you believe in?” Yulis quickly asked, her voice urgent.

If this girl was truly a believer of some church, then she must have received an Oracle, making her a potential Holy Maiden.

“I don’t have a church I believe in,” Xia’er shook her head and said. “If I have to say, my elder sister believes in the Salvation Goddess Religion.”

No church…

How is that possible?

Yulis felt somewhat disoriented for a moment.

“Then how did you know I was coming to the church in the Bell Tower District today? I haven’t told anyone about this, so did you see it in your vision?” Yulis seemed to have found a loophole and urgently asked.

“I just came here hoping for some luck. I prayed twice at the entrance and said, ‘May the Goddess protect us,’ and then I saw you come in,” Xia’er honestly replied.

The Goddess?!

Yulis stood up abruptly, facing Xia’er with disbelief.

Was she guided by the Goddess? Was she the new Holy Maiden?!

What about the current Holy Maiden? Two Holy Maidens in one church? Unheard of!

Yulis felt her brain was about to explode!

“Wait a moment, let me think this through,” Yulis paced back and forth where she stood. Finally, unable to figure it out, she looked at Xia’er again.

“Can you replicate what you saw in your vision and tell me how you went to the Hammer Inn?” Yulis said. “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.

If everything matches up, and I can find two identical notebooks on that Thomas, then these things will be confirmed as true.

Once we confirm it’s true,

I will immediately escort this girl named Xia’er to the city of An Su and report everything to the Pope, leaving the decision to the Pope and the Holy Maiden.

“Alright,” Xia’er nodded, feeling a gradual sense of relief inside.

By this point, Xia’er’s safety was completely assured; even if she had to walk this path in reality, she would survive.

However, Xia’er was still worried inside.

Would walking this path truly be good for her?

This was equivalent to revealing all her cards to the church.

Now, the crises she encountered during the simulation were only from half-baked Extraordinary Persons and ordinary gangsters, but once she entered the higher-ups’ attention, the crises she would face would definitely be beyond what she could handle in her simulations.

For instance, the seemingly approachable Yulis in front of her; if she knew the truth in reality and decided to kill Xia’er, there would be no way for Xia’er to simulate escaping Yulis’ pursuit given her exposed identity.

If possible, a survival path that doesn’t rely on anyone and doesn’t expose herself would be the optimal solution.

Since there are enough points for another simulation, she decided to follow Yulis, taking it step by step and see if she could find a way to become stronger or find a better assassination method during this simulation.

After confirming the next steps with Xia’er, Yulis put away the two notebooks, returned the revolver to Xia’er, and put on her hood and mask, observing Xia’er from the shadows.

And Xia’er, as if nothing had happened, returned home under the surveillance of two followers.
