Chapter 13

“As expected.”

After breaking through the floor and falling for a moment, what I saw next was an enormous research lab.

‘No wonder something felt off.’

While being chased by the Ice Queen and running around, I had several doubts.

The experimental equipment looked like it had never been used, rather than being well-maintained.

The number of staff was ridiculously small for such a large research lab.

And finally.

‘There were no people.’

Astra had clearly explained during the mission briefing that the villain organization was colluding to kidnap people and use them as test subjects.

So, where are those ‘test subjects’?

Even in a world where people die naturally, unless they vanish like in a game, there should be bodies left somewhere.

Did they dump them somewhere? Then, there would be traces.

But there were no related devices in the upper lab to erase human traces.

‘Then, there’s only one possibility.’

They hid the test subjects, or whatever was used to dispose of them.

Where? Either in the sky or underground.

And my prediction was correct.

‘There must be even more data here to bring back to the organization.’

I got up from the mat I had laid down with my ability and looked around.

‘The only variable is that I brought the Ice Queen along…’

If it had gone according to plan, she would have been knocked out by now, but her relentless determination to find me was truly impressive.

No wonder she’s the heroine.

Anyway, I couldn’t see the Ice Queen anywhere.

‘We definitely fell together.’

I saw her falling in real-time when the floor collapsed.

Unless she used her ability to climb back up…

‘Ah.’

I looked up at where I had fallen and saw a path made of ice.

A slope leading straight from the top to the bottom.

‘Well, my method wouldn’t work for the Ice Queen.’

It made sense that creating an ice path would be more efficient for her.

‘Then, I’ll probably run into her while exploring the underground lab.’

With that thought, I slowly walked deeper into the lab.

*Thud. Thud.*

Since I brought the Ice Queen along, maybe I should add another concept?

Like a villain with a tragic backstory?

***

“Dammit! Useless idiots! How can villains and heroes lose to just three villains?”

In the dim underground lab, a man slammed his fist on a desk cluttered with various documents and blueprints.

“Sigh, but Team Leader…”

His identity was Choo Seo-ho, the Research Team Leader.

He was the man who had introduced the lab to the heroes.

“Team Leader? What kind of frozen-to-death Team Leader am I?!”

If I go back like this, I’ll be mocked for the rest of my life…

The man’s face twisted in frustration.

“Hurry up and pack! I heard an explosion, so we’ll be discovered soon!”

The man barked angrily, and the researchers under him scrambled to stuff as many documents as they could.

“Did you copy the ‘Regeneration’ research data?”

“Yes, yes…”

Choo Seo-ho grabbed the USB handed to him by a researcher.

‘This is the result of all our hard work…’

The man sighed deeply at the outcome, which was completely different from what they had originally aimed for.

Their goal was a ‘drug that could regenerate the body in any situation,’ but the result had deviated slightly.

And it was a case where they found use in the side effects.

From Choo Seo-ho’s perspective, it was an incredibly frustrating situation.

‘But we need to take this if we want to survive…’

After shoving the USB into his pocket, the man turned his gaze to the researchers.

“…Wait, one person is missing. Where’s Kyu-hwan? Park Kyu-hwan, where did that bastard go?”

“Kyu-hwan? He said he’d go check out where the noise came from…”

“…P-please save me…”

While Choo Seo-ho and a researcher were discussing the missing person, a man’s voice was heard.

“Hello, researchers?”

“What the hell did that bastard bring…”

Park Kyu-hwan, trembling, with a gun pointed at his head by a man.

Seeing this, Choo Seo-ho clutched his forehead in frustration.

***

“Nice to meet you, everyone.”

As I greeted them with a bright smile, the researchers’ faces turned pale.

“……”

*Click.*

“Ahahaha! It’s an honor to meet you!!”

“Y-yes, it’s an honor!!”

“Uhahahaha!!”

When I pointed my ‘kindness’ (gun) at them, they smiled brightly.

Satisfied, I smiled and took a sip of tea from a paper cup.

‘Hmm. Not bad.’

The aroma and clean aftertaste suggested it was quite an expensive tea.

*Tap.*

I put down the tea and looked at the researchers in front of me.

‘Now… let’s extract some knowledge.’

“From now on, I would appreciate it if you could show me what you’ve been researching.”

“…Even so, that’s a bit…”

One researcher immediately showed resistance to my words.

Without hesitation, I pulled the trigger.

*Bang-!*

“……”

“Any objections now?”

“……”

“Good. Those who give me research data I like will definitely be spared, so don’t worry.”

Fortunately, after that, there were no more researchers who resisted.

“Here, if you look at the results of my research…”

“This phenomenon…”

“Please look at test tube B-425. The cell reaction is like this…”

After a brief commotion, I dragged the researchers around and looked at their research.

‘So this is how far you can go with the field of regeneration.’

The approaches were diverse, and sometimes other fields were mixed in.

The theme was the same, but the methods were completely different.

I marveled at the research results.

“…So, what I researched is octopus legs! More precisely, tentacles!”

“…?”

“Tentacles that regenerate quickly even after being cut! Isn’t it beautiful? By sending signals to the tentacle’s nerves, you can even express delicate movements!”

Then, the researcher quickly approached, grabbed my hand, and handed me a stack of research materials.

‘What the…’

“Villain! No! Maker!! I don’t care if I die! Please use this to commit terrorism!! Use it to mess up the heroes! Specifically, the female heroes! Turn them into a chaotic mess!!!!!”

“…Understood. I’ll gratefully accept the research materials.”

Sometimes, I get startled by the sheer madness, but the quality of the results is high, so it’s good.

“Please take my 3000x Sensitivity Potion too!!!!!!!!!”

“Please take my research data too!!!”

“Pleeeeease!!!!!”

“……”

…Is this normal?

As I tilted my head in confusion, the man who had introduced himself as the Research Team Leader earlier let out a deep sigh.

“…Damn, no wonder the results turned out weird.”

Choo Seo-ho, who seemed to have a deep realization.

After the presentations by the researchers under him ended, I turned my head to look at him.

“Mr. Choo Seo-ho, now it’s your turn to show me.”

“…Sigh, understood. Follow me.”

At my words, Choo Seo-ho led the way to a certain location.

***

A space emitting an ominous green light even in the dark underground.

*Thud.*

While walking silently, the man suddenly stopped and turned to look at me.

“Is something wrong?”

“…Maker. Do you really spare those you like?”

Choo Seo-ho looked at me with trembling eyes, somewhat serious.

‘…I plan to kill them all.’

But I can’t say that out loud.

“Normally, I keep my promises…”

“……”

“But there’s so much research data I like, it’s hard to decide. I can’t spare everyone…”

I pretended to think for a moment, placing my hand on my chin, then let out an ‘Ah!’ and smiled.

“Maybe I can spare one, just one person?”

“…I see.”

Choo Seo-ho fell silent for a moment.

‘…?’

Just as I was puzzled, Choo Seo-ho quickly pulled out a gun from his coat and fired.

*Bang!*

“Eh, eh…? Eh? Team Leader…?”

Not at me, but at the researchers.

“Eh, why…”

“Sorry.”

“Ahhh!!!!”

“Ughhh!!!!”

*Bang! Bang! Bang bang!!*

“I need to survive.”

*Bang!*

After killing all the researchers, including those who tried to run away, Choo Seo-ho threw the gun to the ground and looked at me.

“Did you abandon your own researchers to survive?”

“…What else can I do to survive? Eliminating unnecessary variables when possible is a researcher’s virtue.”

“But what if I lied about sparing you?”

“…I trust you, Maker.”

‘He’s lying.’

When he shot the researchers, for a moment, the gun was pointed at me.

He thought I wouldn’t notice the slight tremble before he turned it back to the researchers.

‘He probably thought he couldn’t kill me, so he acted like he wasn’t going to.’

“…Well, understood. Let’s go.”

It was a bit absurd, but it’s better to extract as much information as possible before killing them.

And I needed to prepare to meet the Ice Queen soon.

***

‘Where the hell is the Maker?’

After being thrown into an unknown place by his bomb, the Ice Queen immediately set out to find him.

‘What is this place?’

It was full of questions for her.

A normal research lab wouldn’t hide an underground lab like this.

“Sigh…”

She let out a sigh at the incomprehensible situation.

*Bang! Bang! Bang bang!!*

Gunshots were heard in the distance.

‘The Maker?’

The Ice Queen ran towards the direction of the sound.

A moment later, she arrived at a place with several bodies in white lab coats.

And the Ice Queen picked up the gun used in the crime and ran.

She felt a bit sorry for the deceased, but there was no other choice.

‘The gunshots weren’t far, so he couldn’t have gone far.’

Without even catching her breath, the Ice Queen started running again.

What she saw next was.

“The Maker?”

“Oh, Ice Queen. You finally made it here.”

The Maker, pointing a gun at Choo Seo-ho, the Research Team Leader who had guided the heroes.
