Chapter 123: Heartless Arthur
Airael looked at Andrew with a puzzled expression.
For a moment, she couldn’t grasp what he meant by “indirectly related to me.”
Either it is related, or it’s not. Simple as that!
But Airael was curious about the issue now.
Seeing her confusion, Andrew continued, “This matter may not be directly linked to you, but it involves the people around you.”
At this moment, Airael understood.
Since her arrival in Lanahl, aside from Celia and Aurora, the only person around her was that heartless guy, Arthur.
So this matter was about Arthur!
Thinking of Arthur, Airael’s heart suddenly raced.
Even though Arthur hadn’t told her exactly what he intended to do or how he was going to do it, she could guess a rough idea.
First and foremost, whatever he was up to had to be dangerous.
After all, he was trying to topple the existing ruling system of the country.
Thus, keeping things under wraps was a must.
However, from what she could see, his secrecy wasn’t quite effective.
The Tower of the Archmage likely already knew about his actions.
As these thoughts quickly flashed through her mind, Airael regained her composure, looked at Andrew, and asked, “Who are the people around me?”
“Naturally, it’s that young man named Axi.”
Andrew responded with a smile on his face.
He seemed to bear no ill will whatsoever.
But Airael’s heart sank.
It really did involve Arthur.
“What? What has he done?” she asked, feigning ignorance.
“It seems he hasn’t informed you, nor has he intended for you to be involved,” Andrew replied.
“And what’s it to you? What happens between him and me is no concern of yours, right?”
“I’d love to say ‘no,’ but unfortunately, I can’t,” Andrew shook his head, his expression growing serious.
“Your Excellency, you’re meddling too much!”
Airael shot back angrily.
“Even if you are the owner of the Tower of the Archmage, it doesn’t mean you can interfere in others’ affairs at will.”
After her words fell, Airael looked up and fixed her gaze on Andrew, unleashing a strong momentum.
Under the pressure of Airael’s aura, Andrew remained unfazed and calmly said, “Your strength is quite commendable, but here, I hope we can avoid any combat.
Additionally, let me clarify, I mean you no harm. My intent in inviting you here is purely to discuss matters.”
As Airael’s aura dissipated, she replied unceremoniously, “Discussion is fine, but I am the only one who can decide on my own matters; you can’t interfere.”
“Of course, I will respect your thoughts and wishes,” Andrew thought.
Airael’s attitude softened significantly, and she asked, “So what do you want to discuss with me?”
“Before we get to that, I must ask: do you really not know what Axi has been up to lately?”
“I have a vague idea, but I’m not clear; our relationship hasn’t reached that level yet.” Airael lied through her teeth.
“Is that so? What a pity,” Andrew said with a hint of disappointment.
“What do you mean by ‘a pity’?” Airael frowned, looking at him.
“I thought you two were very close! After all, both of you are exceptional individuals, and a brilliant man and woman together should naturally attract one another, right?”
Airael was at a loss for words and asked, “Do you really think we should be together and become partners?”
“I believe it should be that way!” Andrew nodded.
“Well, that’s a letdown for you!” Airael replied.
Having tossed out a fib, she seemed much more at ease now.
“But that’s not the point; since you’re able to be Axi’s companion, I’d assume your relationship, even if not that close, shouldn’t be too bad, right?” Airael gave a slight nod.
She couldn’t deny that.
“Well then, do you want to know what Axi has been doing recently?” Andrew asked, his words laced with temptation.
“Isn’t that inappropriate?” Airael responded.
Deep down, she wanted to know what Arthur was doing lately.
Her guesses remained just that—guesses, not verified facts.
“Let me ask you, do you wish to help Axi?” Andrew inquired after Airael’s response.
Regarding this, it must be said that Airael’s acting skills had improved tremendously; Andrew hadn’t even noticed.
“As a friend, I certainly want to help him.” Airael responded readily.
That was a perfectly normal answer.
“Very well! Then let’s proceed to what I have to say.”
Andrew smiled.
That made things easier.
…
Exiting the Tower of the Archmage, Airael found her emotions quite tangled.
She just couldn’t understand what was so great about Arthur.
How could he be so charming?
In such a vast Tower of the Archmage, how could a mere rumor hold such power?
She had thought the Tower would act against Arthur.
And she had even told a few fibs to protect herself.
Looking back now, it was painfully awkward.
Earlier, the conversation between Andrew and Airael was nothing other than about Arthur.
Although Arthur was acting stealthily, their earlier visit to the Tower had drawn the attention of the Archmage towards them.
As a result, Arthur’s subsequent actions were basically laid bare before the Tower’s eyes.
Of course, the matters between him and Airael remained a secret known only to a few.
Even though she learned that Arthur was planning something reckless, the Tower of the Archmage did not aim to suppress or collaborate with the Machia Republic in capturing Arthur, the usurper.
Instead, they chose to pledge allegiance.
All of this was because of a prophecy!
A prophecy left behind three hundred years ago.
Thinking of Suratu, Airael couldn’t help but admire him despite her irritation.
He was really impressive, even dead for three centuries, and still laying out plans!
However, this also helped Airael uncover part of the mystery.
That is, the Sword of the King should have an inseparable connection with Suratu of the Tower of the Archmage.
Let’s put that aside for now and continue discussing the Tower of the Archmage.
Although the Tower willingly pledged allegiance, they were still part of the Machia Republic and had strong ties with many people.
Sudden betrayal would be a challenge for them, and many internally might not accept it.
Thus, Andrew’s implication was that they could only support in secret for now.
Simultaneously, he hoped Airael could assist Arthur and, if necessary, act as a liaison between them.
