After saying goodbye to the overly enthusiastic “good senior,” Leon didn’t immediately head to Rose Manor to save people. Instead, he returned to his office and picked up the sheep’s head he hadn’t seen for several days.
On the night of Lane’s Blood Night, after being caught while pretending to be exhausted, everything except the holy spirit pendant close to his body was confiscated by the Public Security Bureau—soon after, the Black Goat and the Witch’s Broom were reclaimed by the Clearing Bureau and sent back to Leon’s office.
The Black Goat, which possesses a soul vision, had already noticed it had been returned before Leon went to the director’s office. Once Leon picked it up, the goat that had been holding back for quite some time directly asked:
“How’s it going? Are you off the hook yet?”
“Hmm.”
Taking out the large box issued by the bureau, Leon checked the sniper rifle given to him by Senior Emma, placed the sheep’s head on the box, and while maintaining the weapon, privately communicated through their soul link:
“So far, so good. Both the bureau and the kingdom have concluded that Bobby Lane was responsible for Lane’s Blood Night. No one is currently suspicious of me.”
“That’s good…”
Hearing this, the Black Goat couldn’t help but sigh in relief. Then, switching to an encrypted conversation, with a serious expression, it warned:
“However, you still can’t relax. After all, a duke-level grand noble has died. Just the recognition from the kingdom and your branch isn’t enough. The investigators from the General Bureau must also approve before what you’ve done can truly be considered over.”
“I know, but the people from the General Bureau haven’t arrived yet, right? So I’ll just go about my normal work. The more normal I act now, the more credible I’ll seem later…”
After chatting with the Black Goat for a bit and finishing the maintenance of his gun, Leon tidied up the box and tapped on the small mirror.
Although the puppy in the mirror was still asleep, Ms. Lisa was awake. She barked softly and helped him put the box away.
“Huh? A creature from the Mirror World?”
After identifying the small mirror, the Black Goat couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise:
“What did you do to help him? Did Jerry really give you this dog?”
“Not this one… Ms. Lisa, it’s the smaller one next to her.”
After explaining his interactions with Senior Jerry, Leon gestured to the golden retriever, asking her to fetch the sleeping puppy from the mirror. He then rummaged through his cabinet, pulling out a few neatly folded shopping bags and first stuffing the Black Goat into them.
When preparing to place the puppy inside as well, Leon thought it might not be safe enough, so he found an old piece of clothing left in his office. Cutting off the sleeves and fixing it up, he used it to pad the forehead of the Black Goat.
He then wrapped its sharp horns with the cut-off sleeves, creating a warm and windproof mobile puppy bed. Only then did he place the soundly sleeping little puppy inside.
“Wait… You’re going too far!”
Initially unclear about what Leon intended to do, the Black Goat suddenly realized upon hearing the faint snoring from atop its head and became furiously enraged.
“We’re a great demon! And you’re using our head as a dog bed?! Y-O-U…”
“Our bureau collected a piece of sheep’s innards a few days ago when we weren’t back yet.”
After covering the puppy with a small handkerchief, Leon glanced at the momentarily speechless Black Goat and smiled slyly like the director: “Although the item has been taken for examination, the director took a look—it was a goat’s stomach, emitting an evil aura belonging to a near-god level great demon… Oh, what were you saying again?”
“…”
‘We said… We actually like small animals, especially dogs… Hmm… Especially…’
Looking at Leon, who had clearly learned seven-tenths of a certain red-haired woman’s tricks, the captured Black Goat immediately became compliant. After cursing inwardly a few times, it asked in confusion:
“Leon, wasn’t it previously said that our heart claimed our stomach should be in the hands of the boss of Chal Department Store? Why was it suddenly taken by the Clearing Bureau?”
“Because the daughter of the boss of Chal Department Store was kidnapped. He asked your stomach a question—how to save his daughter—and your stomach told him to send himself to the Clearing Bureau…”
“So… Our stomach’s ability is answering questions? As long as there’s a price, if someone asks it a question, they will get an answer?”
After hearing the detailed explanation, the Black Goat couldn’t help but feel bewildered: “That doesn’t make sense. Our stomach should represent greed, symbolizing the ultimate desire. What does it have to do with answering questions?”
“The director didn’t say, but I think perhaps ‘seeking’ itself is a person’s strongest desire at the moment.”
After speculating based on the Black Goat’s words, Leon continued:
“Let’s stop pondering about the abilities for now. This anomalous item was submitted by our bureau, so other branches don’t have the right to compete for it. Among those in the bureau, the one most compatible with demon-related anomalies is me, so your stomach will likely end up back in my possession. We’ll study it further then.”
“You’d better hurry!”
Hearing this, the Black Goat worriedly said:
“Anomalous items obtained outside of missions are generally not directly allocated. They need to be claimed through merits or exchanged for other anomalies. You’ve only been with the Clearing Bureau for a short time, and your merits aren’t enough. If someone else takes it beforehand, it’ll be troublesome.”
“The director mentioned this to me. Since your stomach was sent by the boss of Chal Department Store, the reason she didn’t let Senior Jerry directly rescue the person but assigned me this task was to give me the capital to compete for this anomaly…”
As Leon discussed with the Black Goat how to quickly exchange for the goat’s stomach, he approached a familiar building.
Without any mistake, content inside!
After confirming the sign of the Secret Investigation Bureau, Leon quickly entered the hall with the items in hand, “Hello, may I ask if you need anything?”
“I’m from the Clearing Bureau.”
After taking out his credentials and handing them over, Leon touched the bandage he had taken from the female prisoner in his pocket and seriously said:
“Is Isa here? Her full name should be Isa Hill. I need to speak with her about something.”
…
“Look! That’s the man little Isa is looking for!”
“Eh~ Where? Show me!”
“There! The one talking to the receptionist, the young guy wearing an old coat with black hair—that handsome young man!”
“Handsome… indeed quite handsome, but he seems a bit thin, doesn’t he? Isa ranks third in close combat in the department, with excellent physical fitness. If they end up together, can this young man handle it?”
“Tsk tsk tsk, you’re thinking too much, huh~”
“You… humph! Even if I am thinking too much, what’s wrong with that? Aren’t you guys thinking the same thing?”
The seemingly upset woman stomped her foot and gestured: “This young man looks frail. If Isa wraps her legs around his waist, he’ll probably… Hey! Run fast!”
“I see you guys need a lesson!!”
Blushing furiously, the female police officer chased her colleagues hiding in the stairwell until they cried for mercy. After calming down, she carefully straightened her disheveled clothes, feeling somewhat uneasy as she walked toward Leon waiting at the reception desk.
