Chapter 121: The First Question
Lolan Hill looked at her panel, her body slowly sinking onto the mattress. Comparing the Demon Sequence with other sequences she knew, she had a faint realization: the abilities of the Demon Sequence were usually not many, but they were extremely focused, often reaching the extreme in one aspect, such as speed, lethality, strength, or poison.
Although the general Demon Sequence had many shortcomings and was not as complete as hers, compared to other sequences at the same level, it was more dangerous. To survive by putting oneself in a desperate situation, to fight to the death, to repay blood with blood—perhaps this was the belief left behind by the pioneers during the reign of the Crimson Empire.
She got off the bed, pulled the curtains open, and stepped out after opening the French doors on the balcony.
A full moon hung in the sky, its silvery light pouring over the world. The floor, wicker chairs, small tables, and railings on the balcony were all bathed in a faint silver-white hue.
She sat quietly at the small round table, occasionally hearing the sound of waves and tides from afar, gently lapping against the shore. Under the moonlight, the sea shimmered, rippling with light, flickering faintly.
Gentle sea breezes caressed the night city, weaving through the streets and alleys, sometimes bringing the fragrance of bay trees from the streets. The potted plants on the balcony swayed slightly in the breeze.
Smelling the faint scent of bay trees in the air, Lolan Hill unconsciously recalled a distant past. It was her first time staying at a boarding school, right at the beginning of the golden autumn in September. There were several bay trees under the dormitory building. Each time she entered or exited the dormitory, she would catch a whiff of their fragrance. At that time, it was also close to Mid-Autumn Festival, leaving a deep impression on her.
It was again the season for family reunions during Mid-Autumn, but now there were no familiar faces around her. After completing this mission, she estimated that she would leave Callitas, gaining freedom and loneliness once more.
For some reason, she felt reluctant to part. Although Chelsea often complained about her not taking care of herself, she had always been very concerned and caring towards her.
In the guild, she frequently visited the workshop to watch, sometimes curiously asking the craftsmen about the uses of various tools and many small pieces of knowledge not found in books, such as how to preserve wood to prevent insects or which routes must be taken in specific months.
When the guards were training, she would sit under an umbrella and observe, often calling out one or two of them to tell them where they went wrong and how to improve, enjoying the feeling of being admired as they looked at her in shock.
Occasionally, she would retreat to her courtyard, asking the maids not to follow, experimenting with cooking her favorite dishes, boiling or roasting, even trying stir-frying, though she was later stopped by Chelsea, who said the noise was too loud and damaged her image as a young lady.
Resting her arm on the round table, Lolan Hill recalled the various experiences since joining the guild and the gradually familiar faces. Apart from the initial discomfort, she was well-liked and respected in the guild, something she rarely experienced in her previous life.
She saved Callitas, but she was also warmed by the people of Callitas, giving her a sense of home. From not knowing where her room was to now being able to walk through the museum without bumping into walls with her eyes closed.
But all feasts must come to an end. Meetings inevitably lead to partings, and she could not remain living as Angus’ daughter forever, destined to seek her own world.
She wondered if the people of Callitas would still like her as much as before after this.
With such thoughts, she leaned on the table and drifted into sleep, moonlight reflecting off her silver hair, a gentle radiance flowing over her.

The next day, the Yagdiling family visited the Callitas Guild.
Although the gates and walls of Hope Lane were still controlled by the three major guilds, it did not prohibit others from entering or exiting. Even if it did, Callitas and Helix families could leave and enter the city via the harbor, making the closure meaningless and likely to provoke the resentment of the city’s populace.
Jelink, the head of the Yagdiling family, along with his daughter Rachel, his eldest son Wayne, and his second son Daniel, stepped down from the carriage. The spacious courtyard square had been cleaned up, no longer in the previous state of disarray, but there were still many guards patrolling and standing guard to handle any emergencies.
Although he had heard rumors of a battle, Jelink only truly understood the intensity of the fighting the night before when he saw the collapsed wall, the broken battlements, and the scorched marks. Even the internal conflicts within Callitas had been fierce.
Lacy, dressed in a white dress with purple lace, greeted them in front of the hall, exuding the grace and elegance of a young lady.
“Lacy, long time no see~”
Rachel immediately grabbed her friend’s hand upon meeting her, happily greeting her. Among the Yagdiling family, she was the most worried about Lacy.
Not only because they were good friends who hit it off instantly, but also because Lolan Hill had given her a set of natural sequence advancement route inheritance gemstones before leaving, covering from Sequence 1 to Sequence 7, even surpassing what the Yagdiling family’s own inheritance had.
Such a precious gift made her extremely grateful, but she dared not tell her father, as extraordinary knowledge was extremely valuable and generally restricted from being passed on casually. Despite Lacy not mentioning it when she left, she chose to keep it secret.
During this period, she had already advanced to Sequence 2. Although her combat ability was average, she could already fly, which made her very happy and grateful.
“Long time no see, Rachel.”
Lolan Hill noticed that Rachel was now a Natural Sequence 2 · Verdant Wind Messenger, and congratulated her, making her even happier.
The few men present were puzzled by the joyous Rachel. Was friendship between girls so simple? They had only met a few times. Didn’t they say that girls easily become jealous and compete?
Lolan Hill asked Chelsea to arrange dinner to entertain the guests, and then everyone continued their conversation and getting to know each other.
Wayne was completely infatuated with Lolan Hill’s appearance, almost unable to move from his spot upon seeing her, speaking unnaturally. Daniel was also fascinated by her, but his gaze seemed conflicted, as if hesitating about something.
After dinner, Lolan Hill met with Jelink alone in the study. She knew that Angus’ friend coming to visit was certainly not just for a meal and some small talk.
When Jelink sat on the sofa, looking at the dreamy girl standing by the window, he finally asked the question he had been suppressing.
“What was the cause of Angus’ death?”
