Chapter 12: Gifts and Tokens
“Master, I just suddenly remembered one important thing.”
Shadow said awkwardly.
He only realized this after leaving.
Thank goodness he hadn’t gone too far; otherwise, it would have wasted quite a bit of time.
“What is it?”
“I suddenly recalled that while I have met Miss Ailia once, I’m not really acquainted with her. It was just a brief encounter, and I’m afraid my identity won’t convince Miss Ailia when we meet again.”
Arthur paused for a moment, then realized that this was indeed a problem.
Would Ailia trust Shadow?
After a moment’s thought, Arthur said, “Then I’ll write a letter for you to take.”
“That’s not appropriate. Handwriting can easily be forged, and it’s not very credible. Taking it over won’t prove that the letter was written by you.”
Arthur asked, “So what do you think we should do?”
Looking at Shadow, it was clear that he already had an idea.
“I wonder if there’s any token or something between you and Miss Ailia, preferably something unique. Such items would be the best proof of identity.”
“A token?”
Arthur frowned.
The only unique thing he had on him was the Sword of the King.
However, that sword couldn’t possibly be given to Shadow.
Noticing Arthur’s dilemma, Shadow reminded him, “Have you two exchanged any gifts?”
“Gifts?”
Arthur said, a little surprised.
“Yes, aren’t you and Miss Ailia in a romantic relationship? Even if it’s from her side, you must have given her something as well, right?”
Shadow felt a bit embarrassed.
Seeing Arthur’s reaction, he had a bad premonition.
How on earth did these two end up together with Arthur acting the way he is? How did he manage to win her over?
Arthur’s face turned really awkward.
Then he suddenly recalled the letter Ailia had given him.
That counted as a gift from Ailia.
It also mentioned he gave Ailia a gift, but he wasn’t sure what that gift was.
Realizing he had indeed given Ailia a gift, Arthur felt more confident and said, “I have given gifts, not only did I give Ailia something, but she also reciprocated.”
Shadow breathed a sigh of relief.
Looks like his master still has some emotional intelligence.
With that said, this task should be easier for him to accomplish.
“If possible, I hope you will allow me to take the gift as a token to Miss Ailia.”
“Of course.”
Just as Arthur agreed, he suddenly remembered Airael had already made her choice, and told Shadow, “Shadow, if you find any news about Ailia, you can choose not to contact her first. When I have some free time, I’ll go find her myself.”
“Understood!”
Shadow nodded in response.
He naturally had no objections to this.
If not for the debt he owed Arthur, he wouldn’t have gotten involved in this matter at all. Even as Arthur’s subordinate now, he would think of all kinds of ways to refuse.
After all, matters of the heart are always the trickiest, especially since his master, despite appearing to have some emotional intelligence, didn’t have a lot of it.
“Wait here for a moment; I’ll have someone deliver the token to you soon. Take good care of it.”
“Rest assured, Master, I will ensure the token is safe.”
With Shadow’s assurance, Arthur left the inn room.
Upon returning to the castle located in the town center, Arthur took out the letter Airael had given him.
Staring at Airael’s words written to him, Arthur sighed.
“Ailia, although I don’t know what crucial things you’re dealing with right now, I still hope you can stay by my side, or I beside you to help.”
After mumbling to himself, Arthur shook his head with a wry smile.
It’s easier said than done.
Ailia has her own matters to attend to, and he has his. They both have their own things to do.
Maybe, just as Ailia mentioned in her note, they’ll only be able to meet again after taking care of their own business.
His pessimism didn’t last long; soon, Arthur perked up.
He couldn’t accept that outcome because who knows how long it would be until they saw each other again? Nearly a year had passed; would it be another ten years, fifty years, or even a hundred? Any of those could happen, so he had to change it.
Arthur sat down with the letter and took out a fresh sheet of paper to prepare his ink and quill.
He was going to write a letter.
With Ailia’s letter as a token, what he wrote would naturally carry his words to her, giving it credibility.
Naturally, while Arthur was busy writing, Shadow had to wait a little longer in the inn.
To perfect this letter, Arthur was deep in thought, striving for perfection.
However, while many things formed in his mind, writing them made him feel very embarrassed and hard to put down.
Not to mention the overwhelming shame he felt after writing, wanting to tear it up immediately.
Even though he had done everything he needed, this was his first love letter.
In the end, after spending the entire afternoon, Arthur completed the letter, which barely filled two sheets of paper, and placed it together with Airael’s note into an envelope.
Shadow only received the letter late in the evening from Arthur’s bodyguard.
After obtaining what he needed, Shadow left that night, riding toward Bruz City in the northwest.
Meanwhile, in Avalon, Airael was still unaware of all the efforts Arthur was putting in to find her.
Right now, she was focusing very little of her energy on Arthur, only remembering his existence while taking care of Little Anna.
As for her office time in the morning, whenever she got a break, all her thoughts went to her little cutie, Anna.
Was Anna crying? Was she hungry? Or had Hela and the others been driven crazy by her antics?
Especially when it came to potty training.
Based on her experiences in recent days, she truly realized how challenging it is to take care of a small child.
About that, Airael was thinking too much.
While Little Anna was indeed “naughty,” Hela and the others were still very patient in caring for the little princess.
When they served Your Majesty, the Queen already had strong independence.
This inevitably made them feel a bit regretful, but now they could find that fulfillment again through the little princess.
Thus, Hela and the others were having a merry time “playing” with Little Anna.
“Sigh, I wonder how long Anna’s childhood will last.”
Airael suddenly sighed and muttered to herself.
She had asked Linis about this question.
Linis had no accurate reply either.
