“Pervert” High Priestess
Sharl was startled and quickly ran forward a few steps, her hand instinctively reaching for the canvas bag slung over her left shoulder.
The gun… It’s gone?!
She turned around and saw the masked person wearing the high priestess robe from before, now sitting without any decorum on the prayer chair behind her, holding an old revolver in their hand and examining it curiously.
“Little girl, why bring something so dangerous to church?” The masked person tilted their head slightly, looking in Sharl’s direction and asking, “Are you here to rob the church?”
Sharl froze on the spot. At this moment, she was certain that the masked person in front of her was an Extraordinary Person, and there was a ninety percent chance it was the high priest Yulis mentioned in Duwen’s research notes.
“High Priestess, you scared her. This child is someone I know; she is the foster sister of believer Li Qi, named Xia’er. She came here a couple of years ago,” Pastor Mel walked up to Sharl, patted her shoulder, and comforted her, saying, “It’s okay, child, don’t be nervous.”
“Just joking around…” Masked person Yulis casually placed the revolver aside and stretched out both hands towards Sharl, saying, “Come here, little girl, let me take a good look at you.”
This strange behavior left Sharl unsure whether to move forward. Just then, Pastor Mel gently patted her back and said softly, “Go ahead, it’s fine.”
There was no way to run away now, but fortunately, this was a simulation, and what happened inside would cause no real harm to her.
Sharl slowly approached the masked person until she could reach her. At the same time, she was pondering what to do if she died instantly in the simulation and how to use the Death Reversal ability to gain the most Mortality Points.
At this point, Sharl finally noticed the masked person’s hands—fingers long and delicate, with tender fingertips, clearly not the hands of someone who had never done heavy labor, like a merchant or noble.
She watched those hands move toward her face, gently touching her forehead, sliding down to her chin, and rubbing it lightly.
“What a pretty little girl…” The masked person smiled, lifted a hand, and removed the hood with white silver thread edging, revealing long, wavy silver hair.
She withdrew her hands and lifted the mask, revealing a face as exquisite as carved ivory, though her eyes remained closed until the mask was taken off, making her appear both holy and endearing.
Recalling carefully, the mask seemed to have no openings for the eyes.
“Let me introduce myself. My name is Yulis, Yulis Mora, the high priestess of the Salvation Goddess Religion.”
Indeed, it is High Priestess Yulis… Sharl looked at that beautiful face and thought.
According to Duwen’s description in the research notes, Sharl had always believed that High Priestess Yulis was a middle-aged woman who was strict, adhered to doctrines, but lacked pretense. However, she now appeared to be a vibrant young girl around seventeen.
“My name is Xia’er,” Sharl bowed slightly to show respect.
Initially, she had thought the other person was some kind of pervert, grabbing her and wanting to touch her face. But once the other person removed the mask, Sharl felt relieved.
Turns out the other person couldn’t see, not a pervert at all.
“Pastor Mel, can you take us to the side chapel? I need to ask this girl something,” Yulis turned to Pastor Mel and asked.
“Happy to be of service.”
Mel led Yulis towards the side aisle, Xia’er following nervously behind. The revolver was still left on the prayer bench outside.
Passing through the side aisle, Mel opened one of the doors, revealing a small chapel inside.
This place was usually reserved for important figures to pray privately, used for personal prayers and small rituals. It had a carpeted floor, a small altar at its center, and a statue of the goddess, making it a rather intimate space.
After Yulis and Xia’er entered, Mel closed the door, and immediately, the entire chapel fell silent, with only the sound of their breathing audible.
“Can you take me over to the benches?” Yulis smiled and extended her hand toward Xia’er.
“Yes.” Xia’er nodded, grasped the offered hand, and led her to the prayer bench in front of the altar, watching as she sat down.
“Come, sit next to me.” Yulis pulled Xia’er gently, indicating that she should sit beside her.
Once Xia’er was seated, Yulis suddenly spoke up, “Let me look at you again.”
Xia’er: “?”
In this moment, she overturned her previous impression that “she is not a pervert.”
“You’ve already looked at me,” Xia’er replied coolly.
“Only by touching can I truly perceive your thoughts, feel your pain…” Yulis lowered her head slightly, her expression darkening, “I’m sorry, because I can’t see… “
“Okay…” Looking at her, Xia’er felt a twinge of regret in her heart.
It wasn’t that Xia’er discriminated against the disabled or wanted to expose her wounds, but she found it hard to associate extraordinary abilities with blindness. She always subconsciously viewed her as someone with extraordinary powers, rather than a normal disabled person.
Xia’er held her delicate wrist, placing both her hands on Xia’er’s cheeks.
Then, she saw Yulis place her hands on Xia’er’s face and start gently pinching the soft flesh on either side of Xia’er’s cheeks with her index finger and thumb, playing around joyfully.
Xia’er: “…”
“High Priestess, may I ask what you wish to know?” Xia’er spoke calmly, already labeling her as a pervert in her mind.
“Ah, quite a few things.” Yulis continued to pinch Xia’er’s face while speaking, “Why did you bring a gun to church? Why do I feel like you’ve experienced death multiple times? And how did you know my name?”
“The gun is just for self-protection. I don’t know how to answer the latter question.” Xia’er shook her head gently, then glanced at her canvas bag and continued, “As for the last question, you can find out by looking at this.”
Xia’er reached out, took out the two notebooks from her handbag, and handed them to Yulis in front of her.
“Mmm…” Yulis released her right hand and began to pinch Xia’er’s cheek with her left hand while using her right hand to touch the two notebooks.
She showed no particular reaction when she touched Thomas’ diary, but her expression froze instantly when she touched Duwen’s research notes.
Yulis finally let go of Xia’er’s cheeks, took the research notes, and carefully stroked its leather cover and the embossed gold lettering.
“Could you read it aloud for me, Miss Xia’er?” Yulis held the research notes with both hands, solemnly presenting them to Xia’er, her expression serious, no longer playful.
