Chapter 119: The Stricken Phil, A New Round of Ice and Fire Duel
Airael didn’t say anything more about it.
With the thought of giving her opponent a fair chance, she began her battle with Phil.
Since she was going to take it easy, naturally, she couldn’t use the Staff of Eternity.
Holding that legendary weapon, Airael felt she could easily overpower anyone who wasn’t equipped at her level.
Even against a rank twelve opponent, she had confidence to go toe-to-toe.
But all of this was just her estimation; the real effectiveness would become clear after some actual combat.
This trip to the Tower of the Archmage was merely a way for her to gauge her strength.
However, she hadn’t expected Phil to be her first opponent.
Phil, although talented and already a high-level mage, couldn’t even begin to compare to Airael’s overwhelming prowess.
As the battle progressed, Phil paid dearly for his misjudgment.
He realized he was utterly powerless against this adversary.
No matter what attack he launched, she easily blocked it.
Even his strongest spell, the Blade of Wind, was thwarted by a simple earthen wall she summoned.
It felt as if she was playing a game, not in any rush to attack him, as if she had him all figured out.
No, it wasn’t as if—she had him all figured out!
At that moment, Phil understood the vast disparity between him and Airael.
Her strength exceeded anything he had initially imagined.
They were worlds apart in terms of power.
How ironic that he hadn’t heeded Airael’s earlier advice!
This realization gave Phil a heavy emotional blow.
In fact, Airael was holding back entirely for his sake, not wanting him to suffer a complete defeat but rather giving him a chance to shine.
Just look at how happy he was when casting his spells just moments ago!
The spectators in the stands were completely engrossed in the battle between Airael and Phil.
They were astounded by Airael’s performance.
Just then, they had caught wind of Airael’s identity and learned she was Axi’s companion, having visited the Tower of the Archmage before.
Her revisit seemed intended for some form of exchange.
However, they never expected Airael to be this powerful.
“You’re not my opponent.”
With the earthen wall blasted away by the Blade of Wind, Airael looked at Phil and spoke.
Phil’s expression already indicated he recognized their gap in strength, so she figured there was no need to drag it out any longer.
“I concede!”
Phil quickly admitted defeat.
Though he wanted to keep fighting, he didn’t wish to embarrass himself further.
Airael smiled at his expediency and said, “Actually, you did really well. Your foundation is solid. Just be diligent, avoid laziness, and with more training, I believe you’ll achieve brilliant successes in the future.”
“Thank you!”
Hearing Airael’s encouraging words, Phil couldn’t help but force a wry smile.
Even the brightest future couldn’t surpass her!
He inwardly grumbled as he thought about how he ended up fighting someone like her.
Today, he truly took a major hit.
Airael’s performance would certainly astonish most of the surrounding crowd.
Though Airael was quite modestly wrapped up, they could tell from her voice that she wasn’t very old.
She looked youthful.
Her presence exuded a vitality synonymous with “youth.”
Achieving such accomplishments at her age was almost a rarity among humans.
Even the most talented human mages typically didn’t reach heroic ranks until past thirty.
Unlike warriors, mages required time and experience to level up.
Airael looked at Phil but refrained from saying more.
Even if she had just arrived at this level and didn’t fully understand how she had broken through, she was there and that was that.
However, they had all mistakenly presumed her to be human.
When converting to elven standards, her current achievements could be considered nearly unparalleled.
After Phil exited, soon after, another mage stepped up to challenge Airael.
It was a middle-aged mage donning a red robe.
Sensing the magical aura radiating from him, Airael smiled; the main event was finally starting!
Without a doubt, he was on her level.
As the middle-aged mage entered, word of the battle quickly spread.
More and more mages rushed to the scene.
Exchanges among heroic ranks weren’t common!
“If you don’t mind, I’ll take the lead,” he said.
“Please!”
The middle-aged mage replied briefly.
Airael was not one to hold back.
With a golden magic circle appearing beneath her feet, she began to chant.
Her spellcasting method seemed no different from a human mage’s, just faster.
Soon, a dense swarm of fire arrows materialized in front of her.
Counting them, there were over a hundred!
Moreover, Airael’s fire arrows were much more potent than before.
The middle-aged mage was startled to see her summon such a powerful attack so quickly, especially being fire-type magic; he couldn’t believe it!
He would never match such speed himself.
In an instant, he felt tremendous pressure weighing upon him.
Airael smirked, looking at the middle-aged mage as she commanded the fire arrows: “Fire!”
Swish, swish, swish!…
Immediately, the fire arrows streaked through the air, targeting the middle-aged mage and the nearby area.
She gave him no chance to evade!
He had no choice but to brace himself.
Fortunately, the middle-aged mage’s casting speed was also commendable.
Before the fire arrows could reach him, he raised a flame barrier before himself.
The fire arrows struck the barrier and were quickly assimilated into it.
Not a single fire arrow breached the flame barrier.
“Interesting!”
Airael exclaimed excitedly, and she began to channel her ice magic to create a new round of an ice and fire duel.
Though she excelled in lightning magic, fire had its advantages too.
And an ice and fire battle would be more entertaining, wouldn’t it?
She had to consider the audience in the stands; many came specifically to watch the match!
