Chapter Ninety-One New Home
“This, isn’t it okay?”
Is it strange for a noble to go to an orphanage?
As far as I know, the orphanage in the Winter City is always visited every year. Two days before Christmas, the lady also went there and brought a lot of clothes and good food.
“No, Miss, you’re new here and don’t understand the faces of our royal city nobles…” The guard looked around and lowered his voice cautiously, “We commoners who don’t even have the title of knight are just lambs to be slaughtered in their eyes… Miss, you are a good person, but I must warn you, if it’s not necessary, it’s better to avoid dealing with those people.”
I nodded.
“Mm-hm.”
I’m only here to study, so I’m too lazy to get involved with those people. For me now, learning more knowledge is the most important thing.
The Royal College… what will it be like?
I began to look forward to it with a faint excitement in my heart.
Londor Street is located in the heart of the royal city, which is natural since it’s close to the palace… but I didn’t expect that the journey from the city gate to our destination would take us over an hour.
Obviously, compared to another one of the four great human cities, Winter City, the Orderly City is much larger.
The horned carriage passed through bustling streets filled with noise and excitement, slowly stopping in front of a charming small estate. The guard then turned around and bowed to us.
“Gentlemen, Miss, we have arrived.”
Oh, this is it?
“Thank you for your hard work.”
Carlos casually threw him a silver coin.
“Thank you for your generosity. That place over there is the Londor Street No. 3 residence. I wish this beautiful Miss a smooth start at school.”
“Thank you.”
I shouldered the black leather case and jumped down from the carriage, looking up at the two-story mansion with a Rococo art style in front of me.
The mansion was simple yet beautiful, designed with two stories and a small attic. Blue stone bricks paired with white window frames and pillars, the walls were adorned with carefully trimmed vines, and the lawn in the courtyard was lush with many tall trees. Eight flower beds on either side were blooming beautifully, and a circular plaza in the center was adorned with exquisite stone sculptures of fountains flowing like water.
It looked like a sleeping beauty—I don’t know why, but that was the metaphor that came to mind.
Is this my new home?
How beautiful, I love it!
The guard drove the horned carriage away, and I felt Carlos coming up from behind. Looking back, he was carrying my large suitcase—otherwise, he would be empty-handed, and I wouldn’t know where his silver armor had gone; his only luggage would be his long sword, if that counts as luggage.
I seriously doubt he has several sets of light armor prepared in each city, and only wears them when needed, like a superhero in movies.
“This mansion was built more than three hundred years ago and has always been the residence of the queen. It wasn’t until the royal city had its first queen… Now it belongs to you. Do you like it?”
“Mm-hm!”
I nodded vigorously, unable to hide the joy in my eyes.
“Let’s go.”
Carlos walked to the large iron gate of the mansion’s courtyard, took out a key from his pocket, unlocked the gate, and walked in first. I followed closely behind him, stepping onto the winding stone path on the lawn.
“Someone comes to clean the place every ten days, including mowing the lawn. Usually, you just need to water the flowers and make sure they don’t die; I didn’t arrange for a butler or maids… I guess you wouldn’t like that, right?”
Actually, she had developed some spoiled habits at Schontel Castle… Oh well, let’s leave it at that for now.
I’ll think about it once I get tired of being alone.
“Uh-huh.”
As I walked to the front door of the mansion, Carlos opened it and then threw me the keychain.
“All the keys to the rooms, including the attic, are here. Take good care of them.”
I quickly reached out to take them, and after saying “Oh,” I realized there was no place to put them—the money bag was too small… It seems I need to buy a new bag soon.
The interior decoration of the mansion wasn’t as extravagant as I imagined, but rather filled with a simple warmth that made everything feel carefully chosen, which was exactly to my liking.
The only thing in the house that seemed very valuable to me, besides the comfortable-looking sofa in the center of the living room, was the brand-new, shiny black grand piano placed in a corner near the floor-to-ceiling window.
Carlos and I climbed the spiral staircase to the second floor and opened a door on the west side before stepping inside.
“This is your bedroom.”
The room was very cozy. Still mostly white, similar to my room at Schontel Castle, with wardrobes, dressing tables, mirrors… even the bed style was quite close, clearly indicating someone had specifically instructed this.
I placed the black leather case I was carrying in the corner and turned to look at Carlos.
“Not bad…” As this thought surfaced, it was immediately overshadowed by another.
Staring blankly as he placed the suitcase beside the bed, I hesitated for a moment before asking impulsively:
“Do you… have any spare keys hidden?”
Carlos didn’t turn his head back: “Of course, I’ve hidden several.”
I was instantly startled.
“What do you… want to do with the keys? Give them to me! Don’t keep them!”
My delicate voice sounded somewhat bossy, prompting Carlos to finally glance back at me.
Then, he pouted and showed a disdainful expression.
“Come on, these were all arranged by Queen Elizabeth. How could I possibly have spares… And don’t you look in the mirror? Take a good look—no chest, no butt, barely reaching my chest height, even if you stood stark naked in front of me, oh shoot!”
Clang!
I lunged forward like an angry calf, swinging my fists at Carlos and ramming him into the wardrobe behind him.
I immediately clutched my head in pain.
“It hurts, it hurts… so hard! What was that!”
Carlos hurriedly straightened the nearly fallen wardrobe and turned around, patting his chest and grinning.
“Armor, specially designed to defend against little Shirl headbutts.”
I was instantly infuriated.
“…Get out.”
“On what grounds?”
“This is my home!”
“But the contract is still in my hands.”
“I don’t care, get out! I don’t want to see you.”
Carlos spread his arms wide.
“Not… where should I go?”
“The church inn, or sleep on the streets, I don’t care.”
“Tch. Heartless woman, ungrateful… I’m staying here tonight, what can you do about it?”
Seeing Carlos start to act unreasonable, I pushed him towards the door with all my might.
“Get out, quickly…”
It seemed Carlos suddenly understood something.
“Just right, I need to go out for a bit… stop pushing.” He flicked his sleeves, “I’ll be off now.”
“Go, go quickly.” I impatiently waved at him, then added, “Buy some good food, and come back.”
“Okay, okay.”
Carlos shrugged and walked out of the room.
