Chapter 119

In his childhood, Kurt desperately read a book to learn the common sense of this world.

Or perhaps to escape the reality of being born as a lizard monster.

His sense of taste was a mess, the village’s cultural level was absurdly backward, and the villagers were all hideous-looking monsters.

In such a place, he couldn’t achieve his dream of becoming a chef, nor could he live as a human.

After reading that book, he gained the knowledge and culture needed to live in human society, and he dreamed of one day escaping the village of lizard monsters and returning to human society.

That was before Kurt truly accepted that he had become a Lizardman.

Eventually, Kurt fully accepted that he was a Lizardman, came to truly love his family and friends, and embraced a second life as a hunter rather than a chef…

But the story we’re telling now is not about that, but about the book he read during that time.

An old book woven with the cultures and ecologies of numerous non-human races, viewed from a human perspective.

The book was so old that its age couldn’t be guessed, and some words were hard to decipher due to outdated vocabulary. It was so fragile that it seemed it would crumble with the slightest force.

.

.

.

The previous pages described the culture of the Dwarves who had □□ed with the Fairies.

And from this page, it begins to tell the story of another humanoid race, the Fairies, who had □□ed with them.

When comparing the culture and lifestyle of Fairies to other humanoid races, there are many differences, but the most notable characteristics can be summarized in three points.

First, their overwhelmingly small stature compared to other humanoid races.

Their height is about 30 cm.

Even as adults, they are incomparably small compared to other humanoid races, and their small size comes with a fragile physique.

This is the opposite of the Dwarves, who had □□ed with them.

Even if their height were increased to that of an average human, their physical abilities would still fall short of humans. So, imagine how delicate their bodies must be when shrunk to about 30 cm.

Despite their small size and fragile bodies, this does not mean they can be underestimated or ignored.

This is not just a matter of respecting Fairies on humanitarian grounds.

While Fairies pose almost no physical threat, they possess strengths that easily overcome the need for physical robustness.

This brings us to the second characteristic: their innate abundance of mana and their exceptional ability to utilize it.

If Dwarves are blessed with bodies of steel, Fairies are blessed with an overflowing, almost endless supply of mana.

It’s as if their characteristics complement each other.

Is this because they were □□ed in the same ○○?

Regardless, each Fairy is akin to a mage who has trained in a magic tower for over a decade.

And this is innate.

Other humanoid races might spend years training, and only a rare few with exceptional talent can use magic. But Fairies use magic as naturally as humans speak, birds fly, or fish swim.

By the standards of other humanoid races, a mage among them is just an ordinary Fairy. Only those who would be considered grand mages by other races are recognized as true mages in their society.

The only humanoid race that can compare to their innate magical talent is the Wizards, whose very name is synonymous with magic.

Honestly, as mentioned when discussing Dwarves, it’s a great blessing for our ○○ that Fairies and Dwarves, with their immense power, are not warlike.

If Fairies and Dwarves were even half as warlike as demons, this continent would still be drenched in the blood of many humanoid races.

It’s a relief that Fairies, like Dwarves—or even more so—are a peaceful and bright race.

Lastly, the most notable feature after their height is the butterfly-like wings that sprout from their backs.

From a distance, their colorful, shimmering wings resemble those of a butterfly, but up close, you can see that they are not physical organs but rather the radiant light of overflowing mana emanating from their shoulder blades.

The appearance of these mana-lit wings varies from Fairy to Fairy, much like human faces, and Fairies sometimes distinguish each other by their wing patterns rather than their faces.

Moreover, these wings are not just for show; they enable flight.

The flight achieved through these wings is different from that of birds or insects, as it is powered by magical forces, allowing Fairies to hover in place or make turns impossible for other creatures.

This is the most significant biological feature of Fairies.

In this ○○, after ●●●, many humanoid races were □□ed, but among them, Fairies stand out as particularly unique.

Hmm.

While we’ve described the biological characteristics of Fairies, these alone cannot fully explain them.

To understand other humanoid races, their physical traits are important, but equally crucial is their culture and way of life.

Readers of this book must also be curious about the cheerful and lively culture of the Fairy Kingdom, which loves honey and flowers. This sentiment even reaches the author writing this book.

So, we’ll conclude the discussion on the physical characteristics of Fairies here and move on to the appendices that provide insights into their daily lives.

[Appendix 1.]

The previous section included parts of unofficial letters exchanged when the Dwarven Kingdom and the human kingdom first established contact.

This appendix contains something similar but even more remarkable.

Don’t be surprised!

This appendix includes the official letters exchanged when the Fairy Kingdom and the human kingdom first made contact!

This was obtained with great difficulty during my visit to the Fairy Kingdom, located right next to the Dwarven Kingdom, while gathering as much information as possible about the Dwarven Kingdom. I had to bribe a Fairy maid working in the palace with cookies made with sugar and vanilla essence to get my hands on this letter!

Later, when the Fairy Queen discovered the leak of this letter, I had to compensate her by offering ten times the amount of cookies I had given to the maid. It was a truly painful expense.

Given the effort it took to obtain this letter, I’ve included an interpretation of the letter as a second appendix. I hope readers enjoy this letter, which cost me 11 sugar cookies.

Nice to meet you.

I am the ruler of this Fairy Kingdom, the representative of all Fairies, the mother with seven-colored wings.

I am Queen ■■■■.

I will introduce our great Fairy Kingdom to you, who call yourselves humans.

Introducing our Fairy Kingdom is an opportunity to inform you of our greatness and to offer you a chance to show us respect. I hope you, who call yourself the King of Humans, ■■■■, will read this letter with gratitude for this glorious opportunity.

The Fairy Kingdom ●●●●, which I rule, spans an infinite territory with a radius of 30 million △△.

This is a vast land that even I, the ruler, cannot traverse on foot without using magic.

Moreover, we maintain close diplomatic relations with giants so large that their hands can reach the sun.

Each of them is a mythical hero capable of defeating evil monsters that could destroy nations, and the fact that we have friendly relations with them suggests that Fairies are a great race.

In addition to giants, we Fairies also possess formidable military strength beyond human imagination.

To lead our kingdom into a more glorious era of prosperity, we regularly dispatch armies to obtain a highly valuable and magically potent substance known as the Golden Nectar of the Sun.

Although we do not love violence or plunder, we do not hesitate to engage in armed conflict to obtain the Golden Nectar of the Sun and make our kingdom more splendid and great.

Despite the evil hellish beasts guarding the Golden Nectar of the Sun, we bravely break through these malevolent guardians and successfully obtain the Golden Nectar.

Recently, after dispatching the 73rd Golden Crusade, we obtained not just ordinary Golden Nectar but a radiant, seven-colored Golden Nectar, marking a new era of prosperity for our kingdom.

Sometimes, when dispatching armies to defeat enemies, we do not send only Fairy soldiers but also act alongside the great giants, ensuring that our army has no equal.

….

….

….

The letter continued with the Fairy Queen’s self-praise about the greatness of the Fairy Kingdom.

[Appendix 2.]

This is the interpretation of the letter included in Appendix 1.

The appendix included a copy of the letter and its interpretation below each passage.

The letter continued with the Fairy Queen’s self-praise about the greatness of the Fairy Kingdom.

Initially, the human kingdom’s people mistakenly believed the Fairy Kingdom to be a highly aggressive and militarily powerful nation. However, after deciphering the letter with the help of Dwarves, they gifted 30 jars of Rainbow Honey to establish friendly relations.

Soon after, the human kingdom and the Fairy Kingdom successfully built a strong diplomatic relationship, and thus, Fairies were recognized as the fourth humanoid race.
