A wall is a kind of fixed notion, a symbolic thing. Whether it’s a fortress wall, a wooden fence, or the walls of a house, their essence is all the same. A sturdy shield to protect oneself from the outside. An unbreakable structure. Every time people face a wall, they unconsciously feel a sense of relief. The belief that it will protect them forever. Even if the wall is actually weak, people rarely imagine it being destroyed. In other words, if the wall suddenly collapses, everyone would be stunned. It’s a situation that goes beyond their common sense.
—
– **Kwaaaang!**
Like being hit by a cannon, one side of the wall completely shattered. The shattered pieces of the wall pierced through the people inside like spears.
“Kuhuk!”
“Geeek…!”
Two men with their heads smashed fell forward, twitching. Their backs were densely embedded with wall fragments, like lotus seeds. Lucky bastards. They died so easily.
Brushing the dust off my shoulder, I glanced at the remaining guys. Thanks to the two dead bodies taking most of the fragments, they didn’t seem to have major injuries.
“Huh? Uh…?”
Stunned by the sudden shock, they all stood there dumbfounded. The looks in their eyes as they faced me were filled with horror. Their mouths slowly opened, as if they were about to scream.
Five guys. Disgusting to even look at.
I lunged at the closest young man. The blond youth with fragments stuck in his shoulder. He was probably the one bragging about his adventurer lover earlier. The youngest voice.
My claw-like fingers touched his skull. I gently dragged them down, like scratching the front of his face.
With a soft resistance, the young man’s face was torn off.
“Kueeeek!”
He screamed like a pig, clutching what was left of his face and collapsed. No, should I call it the surface that used to be his face? There was nothing left to call a face.
Eyes, nose, mouth—all torn away, leaving empty holes gushing with blood. Something dripped from the inside of his skull, now missing its front.
His brain, untouched and intact, breathed in the outside air. I didn’t touch the brain on purpose. A painless death didn’t suit these bastards.
Four left. Before they could react, I moved to the next one.
I blew off the bearded middle-aged man’s lower jaw and then kicked him in the side. My foot crushed his pelvis, tearing through flesh and blood, exiting the other side.
“Gueeek!”
The middle-aged man, now cut in half, rolled on the ground, spilling his guts. He vomited blood and bile through his gaping throat.
“What, what the…!”
The voice of the guy who boasted about starving a woman for a month.
I drew the Black Iron Sword and split his belly open. The cut from his sternum to below his navel spilled his intestines.
Dodging the disgusting spray of blood, I moved to the next one to kill.
“Ahhh! Aaaah! Monster! Monster…!”
The man, his legs giving out, screamed like a madman. He desperately tried to crawl backward, scraping the floor with his heels and buttocks. It was ridiculous.
“Why that face? You were so confident earlier. Didn’t you say you’d purify the witch with holy water?”
Mocking him, I cut off his legs. Then I sliced off his arms. The man, now on his back, trembled and screamed at the top of his lungs.
“Kyaaaaah!!”
“Too noisy. Nights should be quiet.”
I stabbed his lung with the sword. As air leaked from the hole in his chest, his screams quickly faded.
I turned to the last one. A middle-aged man trembling on all fours, trying to crawl out of the house.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
You mentioned Milia, didn’t you? Said she’d be perfect for your kid’s coming-of-age ceremony. I grabbed the back of his neck and lifted him up.
“Ahhh! Aaaah! Help! Save me!! Monster!!”
The middle-aged man flailed wildly. His hands grabbed my wrist, and his kicking heels repeatedly hit my armor.
“The monsters are you guys, not me. Think of me as… divine punishment. A bit late, but finally here. Like the whip of the gods.”
I casually pulled off his limbs, like plucking weeds from a field.
“Kyaaaah! Stop! Pleeease! Kyaaaah!!”
The middle-aged man convulsed as if struck by lightning, spraying blood from his remaining limbs. The commotion spread through the village, and I could feel people rushing around.
Thirty seconds since the wall was destroyed. Finally realizing something’s wrong, huh?
“Does it hurt a lot? Don’t worry. It won’t be long.”
I took him outside and rubbed his face against the wall, reminiscing about childhood graffiti. Though this time, instead of paint and spray, I used a person.
“Gueeek! Gruk! Geeek…!”
The middle-aged man, making strange noises, soon went limp.
**Fléau de Dieu**
**Divine Punishment**
The words carved into the wall dripped with red paint.
—
“What the hell! What’s going on!!”
“Is it a knight? Did a knight come?!”
“A knight? Didn’t you hear that earlier? It’s a magician!”
I could feel countless men rushing out of their houses behind me. They only saw my back.
Rodo, all frozen in fear.
“What… what is this…!”
“A witch…?”
“Isn’t that Delbin in his hand…?”
“Uh… uh, uh…!”
Some were so shocked by the gruesome sight that they dropped their weapons.
I turned to look at them.
The bloodlust, having tasted blood, spread out like a creeping vine.
Panic spread like waves.
“Ahhh! A monster! It’s a monster!! Run!”
“It’s not a knight! It’s a monster!! A monster!”
“Ughhh… save me, please…!”
The reactions were varied.
Some screamed and ran, some pointed at me frantically, and some lost all will to fight and knelt down, begging.
“It’s late at night, what are you still doing up? Is there a festival or something?”
I threw the middle-aged man named Delbin at them.
– Thud!
Delbin’s corpse flew like a cannonball and collided with two men, exploding on impact.
I guess this is what they call killing two birds with one stone?
The blood and chunks of flesh splattered all over the surrounding people.
The residents, stunned by the sight of three people bursting like balloons, finally snapped out of it as the sticky heat dripped down their faces.
“Eeek…! Blood, blood…!”
“Ahhh! Ahhhh!”
One guy, with his guts draped like a scarf, completely lost his mind and kept screaming non-stop.
It was a gruesome scene.
Except for the fact that these guys were even more gruesome.
I charged at them, tearing them apart.
The blood poured down like heavy rain, soaking my body, and the screams and wails tickled my ears.
I grabbed the bald middle-aged man by the shoulders and pulled him apart, like tearing a washed lettuce in half.
The insides were dirtier than I expected.
The man I kicked away flew sideways, half-split, and collided with the fleeing crowd.
Six people crashed into the wall at once and burst.
Couldn’t even break the wall? Weaklings.
The brown bricks soaked up the fresh paint.
“Eeek…! P-please, spare me…”
A boy, whose leg I grabbed, begged through tears.
A young boy, just starting to grow facial hair.
His face looked familiar.
He had been leering at Milia in the alley.
Guilty.
“No.”
I spun him around in the air and threw him skyward.
“Ahhhhhhh-”
The scream grew fainter. Yeah, live without sin in heaven.
I might have swung a bit too hard, as I left his ankle behind.
I threw the ankle I was holding at another guy.
The man, with a shoe sprouting from his lower abdomen, trembled and collapsed.
I wiped the blood off my face and moved on.
A moment later, the sound of a watermelon cracking echoed from somewhere.
Looks like heaven rejected you. Too bad.
—
I moved forward, slaughtering everything in sight.
Everything I could grab was torn apart and ripped out.
Everything caught on the blade was chopped into pieces.
Behind me, limbless maggots writhed and groaned.
The kicked ones all turned into paint.
Whether they decorated the walls or colored the floor.
The brave one who stabbed at me with a spear was pinned to the wall, flailing as a price for his recklessness.
But there were still many left to kill.
Startled by the screams and chaos, they swarmed out like ants, still over there.
I took out my bow and nocked an arrow.
The fully drawn bow spat out a series of flashes.
The bodies of the men hit by the arrows were torn apart.
One leg per arrow, six arrows.
The reason I didn’t kill them was for another purpose.
The one-legged men rolled on the ground, clutching their severed limbs and wailing.
Yeah, I know how you feel. It really hurts, I’ve been there.
As I approached them, the men screamed and started crawling away.
Where do you think you’re going? I only cut off one leg each.
I threw daggers at their outstretched wrists, pinning them down like insect specimens on a pin. They screamed vulgar curses.
“Ahhh! Damn it!!”
“Don’t come! Don’t come closer!”
I can’t grant that request.
Don’t feel wronged. You guys probably never granted anyone’s requests either, right?
As I approached the convulsing men, I tore off a section of the log cabin wall about the length of a forearm.
…This should make a decent torch.
I lit a match and set the end of the wooden stick on fire.
The warm flames began to climb up the inverted stick.
Sensing their fate, the men screamed.
“Eeek! A demon, a demon is coming!!”
“Ahhh! No…! I don’t want to die!! Don’t come this way! You monster!!”
“Please spare me!! Elpinel! Shaulite! Any god! Please!!”
God?
I couldn’t help but laugh.
