Chapter 1: Do You Admit Your Guilt? I Admit You’re a Fool!
Episode 105 – Each One’s Purpose (3)
‘How far can I go?’
Through the dark night sky, Kang Do-yeon did not reduce her speed.
Higher, she accelerated even more towards the vast sky and the brilliantly shining stars.
As the oxygen gradually depleted and the temperature plummeted, her body faced its limits, and automatically, a deep red barrier based on her Formancy enveloped her.
Formancy is the miraculous energy that can become anything. Moreover, since she could manipulate her body at will, she really did not need to breathe or make her heart beat if it wasn’t necessary.
In a state where all that energy was replaced by Formancy, Kang Do-yeon finally placed this world beneath her feet.
A green planet similar to Earth. However, there were no artificial satellites around at all.
She paused for a moment and gazed at the sight.
‘What is the reason for such an action? Do not stray from your orbit. The energy required to remake your body is immense.’
Eve did not particularly like that action. It was inefficient.
‘At some point, won’t we venture into space?’
‘If there are enemies to devour in space, of course.’
‘I was just practicing it for that day.’
With a bitter smile, Kang Do-yeon turned her body again. The coordinates of her destination were already engraved in her brain.
She began to fly towards that place at the same speed she rose into the sky. There was less air resistance, so her speed was faster.
As the sun gradually approached, she crossed the continent in an instant.
After arriving at her destination, she descended at that same speed, and flames began to ignite from the barrier that surrounded her.
‘Just like always. Kill them all.’
‘…Understood.’
Finally, the city marked as her destination came into view.
Part of her facial skin twisted, and a mask was placed over her. Of course, her mind was crystal clear.
Since the day she admitted she was a monster and chose her path, she had carried out Eve’s orders of massacre with a clear consciousness.
The number of humans killed by her hands had already surpassed three digits.
“Ugh, Uaaaah!”
“Kyaaaah!”
The accelerated Kang Do-yeon smashed through the city’s magical defenses, piercing through the tallest tower, landing with a massive impact that shook the ground.
The earth broke and exploded, sending dust into the air, and the nearby people caught in the chaos screamed and rolled over as they fell.
The fortress that had been the last bastion of this small rural city was crushed to smithereens upon colliding with her barrier, and the colossal clock tower she had broken through wobbled and began to slowly collapse.
‘Where is the commander?’
Ignoring the surrounding people who looked at her in horror, she searched for the city’s commanders or warriors.
She thought it hypocritical herself, but ultimately, this was the minimum defensive mechanism she was attempting for her own self.
The reason she proactively fought was to grow stronger.
Thus, the enemies she killed were always only the commanders or armed warriors. The slaughter of civilians was left to other legionnaires that accompanied her.
“Mr. Mayor!”
“Don’t hesitate! Get the people evacuated!”
The mayor of the small town, hastily evacuating residents through the gate to a city further back upon hearing news of Menace, fell silent at the sight before him, as if he knew they were trying to flee.
Far away at the scene, mixed with dust, something was visible. A pair of black feathered wings fluttered.
“Wings that bring despair…”
The mayor clenched his teeth at the sight. Information about the legion had already spread in detail, and that being with wings was included.
Surely, beneath that grotesque skin and carapace lay a beautiful female form, but inside was a monster devoid of mercy, blood, or tears that slaughtered any knight or mage without hesitation.
However, those wings were just the beginning. Wings do not move alone.
It was a terrifying rumor that the true blood-red catastrophe would begin when they moved together with the monstrous horde they commanded.
“Mayor, we will go and buy some time.”
“But Lord Randolph!”
“I’ve heard that unlike other monsters, that winged creature does not care about the weak and only targets knights and mages. Thus, it will certainly come here to kill the representative of this place, you, Mayor. Hurry and evacuate the people. We will divert its attention and buy time.”
The knight guarding the mayor stepped forward with a stern face, leading his subordinates.
The mayor’s face twisted, but now he had no way to stop them.
“Make sure you come back alive.”
“Of course.”
The commander of the knights, Randolph, exchanged a resolute final handshake and a warm embrace with the mayor. Then he donned his helmet.
“Let us show that monster of the abyss the strength of our knight order.”
He and his subordinates charged across the crowd of citizens who were screaming and cramming together in this place.
While running on the ground, they simultaneously drew their swords in unison.
The enemy was currently standing amongst the bodies of several fallen soldiers and mages.
As the rumors had indicated, nearby, a child trembling on the ground received no glance.
“O creature that knows the honor of warriors! Fight us!”
Randolph shouted, gripping his sword tightly as he diverted the enemy’s attention.
Together with his subordinates, he thrust down to the ground with all their might.
And without the slightest carelessness, he poured everything into a single strike of his sword.
The blow contained all his sense of duty, fighting spirit, passion, and rage.
*
‘That one is something special. Is it indeed a unit of the same kind as that one?’
“Cough… urgh…”
The square littered with the corpses of knights.
Unknowingly trampling over the bisected corpse of Randolph, Kang Do-yeon lifted the last survivor by the neck, having cut off both his legs.
Through her eyes, Eve quickly discovered the alien elements within the survivor’s body.
It matched the same composition as units of Dark, which had already been analyzed from the previous battle.
‘Blood flow infused with Formancy, and they manipulate various tricks with it.’
However, Eve’s reaction was apathetic. First, that ability could not be replicated. Like a kind of magic, there was a special system of Formancy that could not be brought about by cloning living beings.
Moreover, she had not succeeded in learning it either.
What was commonly gathered from the captured prisoners was that only Dark was said to have received the pureblood power called ‘True Blood,’ and he alone knew the secret of this blood magic.
‘What to do then?’
‘Aside from that Dark fellow, just kill them all. They are resilient enough to survive even after having their limbs torn off and reduced to mush, but ultimately, they will die if left alone. Cut off their heads.’
‘Understood.’
Kang Do-yeon let go of her hand and then swept her wings down, beheading the survivor’s neck with one strike.
Then, spreading her wings, she flew towards the gate where people were evacuating. In just a few minutes, the legionnaires would arrive.
This city, whose defense system had already been shattered, could not withstand even that handful of legionnaires.
“Ah…”
“The knights…”
As she swiftly darted overhead, the evacuating people began to panic in despair, creating a huge uproar.
‘Look at those foolish and primitive beings, pushing and trampling each other to death in their attempts to flee.’
‘…’
Kang Do-yeon did not care about such a scene from the beginning.
She advanced only to destroy the designated gate, arriving finally at the front of the gate where people were hurriedly passing.
“Stop! Do not let the sacrifice of our knights be in vain!”
The mayor and the last mages of this city began to resist to protect the people. They spread an urgent barrier and sent magic at her.
Accepting their resistance, Kang Do-yeon paused in mid-air and spread her wings wide.
The power units embedded in the joints of her wings began to glow and heat up.
“Ah.”
Immediately afterward, two beams of light shot from her wings, striking them and causing a massive explosion.
It was an attack possible because the output and efficiency of the power units had been increased by absorbing the heart of the hybrid.
Without realizing it, the head of the mayor, separated from his body, flew past her, half-burned.
“Anyway, there was no Dark here as well.”
‘Since I secured the testimony, it doesn’t really matter.’
Soaring into the skies, Kang Do-yeon averted her gaze from the people being slaughtered by the legionnaires.
Eve had now obtained more detailed information.
It was information that humans, having lost the continent’s capital of Menace, were gathering in another stronghold at the eastern edge.
Of course, there were still many who could not make it there, scattered throughout the entirety of the continent.
They were being driven deeper into the far outskirts, forming a small group of survivors to evade the hybrids that were seizing control of the continent’s center.
“Shall we move right away?”
‘Do that. Include Reina too. Go, exterminate Dark, and completely crush the hopes of humanity.’
Having acquired information, there was no reason to hesitate. Eve moved all remaining forces to evade the hybrids.
In order to target those who barely clung to life.
