Chapter 103: Passing Notes (Extra Update for [Not Megatron] Bud)
Since junior two, the remedial classes, also known as the “elite classes” designated by the school, were set up in two classes consisting of the top 130 students from the entire grade. In theory, the top ten students in each class had a chance to join these classes. However, the experimental high school was divided into Class A and Class B. The teachers in Class A and the entrance scores of the students were much higher than those in Class B. Therefore, the resources for the top 130 students were essentially concentrated in Class A. Eight Class and Nine Class each had 16 and 13 students joining the elite class.
The elite class started at 7:10 PM and lasted until 8:30 PM, mainly focusing on Chinese, Math, English, and Physics.
Although biology was taught in junior one, it was still considered a minor subject like politics, history, and geography. It did not have a significant impact on the high school entrance exam and there was no need for special remedial classes.
As for the location of the remedial classes, they were set in specific classrooms. Remedial Class 1 held their lessons in Class 8’s classroom, while Remedial Class 2 held theirs in Class 13’s classroom.
Since Class 8 was Xia Yuan’s territory, she made sure to reserve seats for Mei Fang and Lin You Xi as soon as class was over. Once most of the students from Class 8 left, they entered the classroom and saw Xia Yuan enthusiastically waving at them.
“You Xi, Ah Fang, come sit here!”
It was only Xia Yuan who would openly call nicknames in front of everyone. Most friends, even close ones, would use full names or quirky nicknames like “Er Mao,” “San Jin,” “Beer,” “Dogzi,” “Da Shen Zhou.” When Xia Yuan called their names, everyone looked towards Mei Fang and Lin You Xi. Mei Fang felt a bit embarrassed but also proud, following Xia Yuan to her designated seat.
“You Xi, come, sit here with me, we can be desk partners!”
Xia Yuan first pulled Lin You Xi to sit next to her original seat. As soon as Lin You Xi sat down, she realized something was off.
“Isn’t this Peng Xue’s seat?”
“Hello, You Xi!”
Peng Xue poked Lin You Xi’s arm from behind. “I didn’t expect us to be sitting in front and back, what a wonderful fate! You know, Yuan Yuan begged me for a long time before I agreed to let you sit here.”
Perhaps to repay the principal’s care or to overcome past humiliations, Peng Xue became more serious after the incident. She focused on her studies and improved significantly, entering the top 100 in the mid-term exam and gaining the qualification to join the elite class.
Mei Fang watched the girls chatting, thinking he might not be suitable for such close proximity with Xia Yuan in public. Just as he was about to move to a seat by the window, Xia Yuan waved him over again.
“A Fang, where are you going? Come sit here!”
Xia Yuan had saved a seat for Mei Fang in the second group. Thinking for a moment, Mei Fang noticed Zhang Ming walking over from his own class and invited him to sit together.
Yue Xinyi, arriving late, looked around and found that most seats were already taken. Her usual desk partner, Lin You Xi, was now sitting with her childhood friend Xia Yuan.
If it were Mei Fang, I could accept it…
But this makes me feel so pitiful…
Noticing her helpless deskmate, Lin You Xi immediately waved Yue Xinyi over.
“There’s an empty seat back here, come sit here.”
“Oh… Uh… Alright.”
If the girl next to her wasn’t the notorious Peng Xue, Yue Xinyi might not have hesitated so much.
Peng Xue had gained quite a reputation among students due to her trendy style and her record of clashing with teachers. Yue Xinyi subconsciously thought of her as a troublemaker.
She felt somewhat uneasy.
Oh, how useless You Xi is. She had the chance to be Mei Fang’s desk partner, but she just gave it away to Xia Yuan.
I hate this!
“Hey.”
Peng Xue greeted Yue Xinyi with a smile, “I recognize you, don’t you often eat with You Xi?”
“Oh… I’m her desk partner.”
Yue Xinyi nodded dazedly. She was curious why Peng Xue could call Lin You Xi so familiarly, while she only called her班长 (class monitor).
“Do you and our class monitor get along well?”
“Yeah…” Peng Xue thought for a moment, “I think we get along pretty well! We often go out, shop together, play games, and rollerblade.”
“Our class monitor gets along so well with you! I thought she wouldn’t do these things!”
Lin You Xi turned and glanced at Peng Xue, but she realized Peng Xue wasn’t wrong, so she didn’t directly refute her.
“Haha…”
Peng Xue saw through Yue Xinyi’s thoughts, “Since you’ve been desk partners with You Xi all this time, I thought you’d get along well. Did you never do these things?”
“We have a more noble friendship!”
Yue Xinyi blushed and argued with Peng Xue, at least she and Lin You Xi had a secret no one else knew.
“What kind of noble friendship? Tell me about it.”
“Ah… Don’t talk, the teacher is coming.”
Yue Xinyi signaled Peng Xue to be quiet.
This was Xia Yuan’s first time sitting next to Mei Fang in nearly two years, but she didn’t show her excitement to Mei Fang. Instead, she spent more time being close to Lin You Xi.
The content of the elite class was more challenging and competition-oriented. Everyone listened attentively, including Xia Yuan who diligently took notes. Occasionally, she would sneak a glance at Mei Fang. From Mei Fang’s position, he could see Xia Yuan’s head tilt.
They would occasionally look at each other. At first, it was a calm, silent gaze. Later, when Mei Fang turned his head, he would make faces at Xia Yuan, almost making her laugh out loud. Sometimes, she would either bury her head to suppress her laughter or pinch Mei Fang’s thigh and arm.
Oh wow!
Even though this might be unfair to You Xi, Xia Yuan and Mei Fang’s interactions were really sweet!
But I’ve decided to support You Xi as my childhood friend. How can I betray her?
Watching the sweet interaction between Mei Fang and Xia Yuan, Yue Xinyi felt her heart racing and felt as if ants were crawling all over her body.
I can’t concentrate on studying anymore…
Seeing Yue Xinyi’s distressed expression, her deskmate Peng Xue found it amusing and wrote a note, tearing it off and passing it to Yue Xinyi.
Yue Xinyi snapped out of her distracted state and took the note Peng Xue passed to her.
[Don’t you think Yuan Yuan and Mei Fang make a perfect pair? Aren’t they like a couple in love? Isn’t it cute when they tease each other?]
Peng Xue invited Yue Xinyi to join the YuanDang (fan club). Yue Xinyi’s expression suddenly turned calm after reading the note.
Then, Peng Xue received a reply from Yue Xinyi.
[I don’t think so! In my opinion, Mei Fang and our class monitor You Xi are the perfect match!]
Peng Xue was slightly surprised but quickly returned to her usual playful smile. She continued writing a note and passed it over.
It seems a battle of ships is inevitable.
