KWAHHHHHH!!!
“W-wow…”
“…I didn’t expect it to be this powerful.”
The Research Lab, with a cool hole blown through its side after being hit by a powerful plasma bazooka. The defensive barriers around the lab flickered, indicating they were somewhat prepared, but they were still breached.
‘This performance is insane…’
No matter how much I studied, I could never grasp SF knowledge, so I usually stuck to familiar weapons from my original world. They were mana-efficient and practical in many ways. But now…
‘Only 1/20th of my mana was consumed?’
The cost of materializing a weapon and creating a single plasma shot is this low. In other words, if I just keep making shots with the same power, I could fire dozens without breaking a sweat.
“W-whoa…!”
‘I kinda want to keep this with me forever.’
I thought it would be a good match, but I didn’t expect it to be this efficient. It’d be great if I could keep working with it on missions.
‘Maybe I should ask Astra for it as a reward?’
I hesitated for a moment, but I had a feeling she wouldn’t allow it.
“Phew…”
“…?”
“Never mind. Shall we head in?”
Feeling a bit of regret as the plasma bazooka’s data completely vanished, I entered the Research Lab with the Training Room.
“Understood, Maker.”
Ah, 42 is coming too.
***
“The plan is as we discussed with Astra.”
“Yes, yes!”
Honestly, there’s not much to call a plan.
First, the Training Room and I will draw aggro while taking them out, and then we’ll search for research information on regeneration experiments.
“The Training Room will handle most of the aggro, and I’ll focus on reducing their numbers.”
*Nods*
“And.”
I turned to look at the man, Organization Member 42, following behind us.
“42, you focus on finding the research data. And make sure to locate the control room.”
“I’ll contact you as soon as I find it.”
“Good.”
As we ran through the Research Lab’s corridors, we reached a three-way split.
“I’ll take the middle.”
“I-I’ll go left…”
“I’ll head right.”
Training Room, Maker, 42.
The three villains each took their chosen path.

“Dammit. What’s going on here?”
A room filled with rough-looking men. One particularly large and intimidating man furrowed his brow as he smoked a cigarette.
His legs were trembling so much it was almost comical. The man next to him chuckled and spoke to the big guy.
“Hey, boss. You’re not scared, are you? Don’t lose your cool.”
“Shut up, punk! Do you know how long I’ve survived with this gut feeling?”
“Come on, it’s not like you have an Ability or anything…”
The big guy glared at the laughing man, then crushed his cigarette.
Intuition. Even though he wasn’t a sensory-type Ability user, his intuition had kept him alive more times than he could count.
“Boss, you’re a B-rank villain now, a B-rank! I just barely made it to C+.”
“……”
“We’ve come this far, right? And it’s not like we’re doing all the heavy lifting. The hero brats are here today, and we’ve borrowed some guys from other organizations.”
“……”
“When the Research Lab’s weaklings are ready to deploy, we just need to head to our positions.”
“……”
“Once we finish this drug and mass-produce it, we’ll be rolling in cash! Right? We’ll be heroes! Why are you worrying so much, big guy?”
The second-in-command tried to calm him down. The big guy turned to look at his subordinates.
‘These guys who’ve followed me loyally, even though they’re useless.’
They were troublemakers who did dirty work and drank and drugged whenever they could, but he couldn’t abandon them.
“…You’re right, kid! We’ve come this far, we can’t just run away with our tails between our legs! Right, guys?!”
“YES, BOSS!!”
The big guy ruffled the second-in-command’s hair.
‘Yeah, it’s probably just my imagination.’
He’d been wrong before, and nothing had come of it. This time would be no different.
The big guy forced a smile.
“Boss, after this, let’s hit this place. There’s a new girl who’s been getting rave reviews lately…”
Trying to mask his unease, the big guy joked around with his second-in-command.
“Yeah? If you say so, I’ll check it out…”
*BANG!*
More accurately.
They were about to.
“…Huh?”
A red flower suddenly bloomed on the second-in-command’s forehead, sending a chill down the big guy’s spine.
“Oops.”
“……”
A moment of silence.
Then the big guy exploded in anger.
“WHO THE HELL DID THIS?!!”
“Hmm, should I say… ‘Villain appears’?”
*BANG!*
*CRASH!*
With a relaxed shout from one man, a loud gunshot rang out, and the lights in the room went out.
“What, what’s going on?! Where is he?!”
“Hey! Don’t shoot the guy next to you, idiots!”
“Did you just hit me, you bastard?!”
The men panicked as they lost their vision.
“Everyone, get it together! You idiots!! Grab your guns and tools, stay together! Don’t scatter and get picked off!!”
Hearing their voices, the big guy quickly tried to calm his subordinates and take control of the situation.
“He’s alone! He can’t do anything! Just stay together! Stay together and we’ll survive…”
“Stay together and die, you mean?”
*Ting- Roll roll…*
*Click.*
“A grenade will finish you off.”
“What the hell! Everyone, scatter!!”
*BOOM!*
*KABOOM!*
*KABOOM!!*
The explosions that followed drowned out all other sounds.
*Beep beep beep-*
‘Sh…it…’
The big guy, barely surviving the explosion, looked up to assess the situation.
Some were lucky and just knocked out from being far away, others were screaming while clutching their wounds, and some were already just lumps of meat.
The big guy had taken a direct hit from the grenade at close range, but thanks to his Ability that enhanced his physical abilities, he survived with only moderate injuries.
“F***ing bastard! Where are you, you piece of shit?! Where are you?!!”
Furious, the big guy picked up a nearby assault rifle and aimed it at any human-shaped figures he could see.
*Shaking…*
Trying to hide his trembling hands, the big guy got even angrier.
*Thud roll roll…*
*Pshhh-*
“What, what’s this? A smoke grenade?”
“……”
“Coward! Were you that scared to face us alone?”
“……”
“Were you scared?!!”
The big guy gripped the assault rifle tightly, waiting for a response.
One minute, no, three minutes passed.
No response came.
The thick smoke obscuring his vision only heightened his fear.
*Swish-*
“Ugh! Ughhh!!”
*Ratatatat!*
Finally, startled by a figure in front of him, the big guy fired wildly.
“…Huh?”
“B-boss… why, why did you…”
It wasn’t the enemy he was aiming at.
“Tsk tsk, you shouldn’t shoot your own men.”
“Ughhh!!”
*Thud!*
Startled by a voice from behind, the big guy fell over comically.
“D-don’t come closer!”
“Treating people like that might hurt their feelings, you know.”
“D-don’t come closer!!”
The big guy aimed his rifle at the enemy in front of him. The gun’s aim was shaky.
“Ughhh!!!”
*Click. Click.*
The big guy pulled the trigger, aiming at the smirking man.
But no bullet fired.
“Done struggling?”
“G-gulp.”
“So… you’re a villain, right?”
“……”
“If you were a hero, it’d be a bit more troublesome.”
“……”
“Hmm.”
*Click.*
Maker, feeling a sense of déjà vu, pressed the gun to the big guy’s head.
“You’re a villain, right?”
…*Nods. Nods.*
“Good. You did look like a villain.”
Maker, satisfied, smiled as he pulled the gun away from the big guy’s forehead.
“Alright. Now, I have a few questions for you…”
***
After cleaning up the villains, I wiped the blood off my hands and face and exited into the hallway.
‘Lucky that the villains were all clustered together.’
It might have been because the attack had just started, or maybe they were just slacking off, but they were all chatting so peacefully that it was easy to ambush them.
A few grenades later, and it was all over.
I was a bit disappointed, considering they were a villain group partnered with the Research Lab, but they were only C-rank at best.
Or maybe the ones I took out were just the grunts…
‘Anyway, I found the research data and the control room, so mission accomplished, right?’
Unintentionally, I ended up doing 42’s job too. I chuckled briefly and tried to contact the Training Room and 42 to share the information.
*Static.*
“Training Room, 42. Can you hear me?”
“Y-yeah, this is the Training Room! I-I’m in the middle of a fight, so I’m busy!”
“42. I received your message.”
Soon, the Training Room’s voice, mixed with static, and 42’s calm voice came through.
“I’ve located the research data. I’ll share the location. Please head there.”
“Y-yes, sir!!”
“Understood.”
*Click.* The communication cut off.
‘Alright, time to head to the target location…’
“Wait! You there!”
Just as I was about to move, a voice from behind made me freeze.
‘…What now?’
“Who are you? The lights are out, so I can’t see. Can you come over here for a second?”
When I turned, I saw a familiar face.
Her sky-blue hair, reflecting the bright moonlight, looked even more mystical. Her cold eyes and heart-stopping beauty.
‘Ice Queen.’
What’s she doing here?
