Chapter 1: The Elite Soldier Path
Walking on the bustling streets of the Elven Royal City, Linis felt as if she had stepped into a different era, witnessing the changes over the past few months.
Previously, while the city was populated, the streets were rarely crowded unless a special event occurred.
Now, although the streets appeared a bit chaotic, the vivacity was enough to make Linis overlook those trivial flaws.
Overall, she was quite satisfied with the transformations in the Royal City.
At the same time, she felt more reassured about Airael.
Arriving at Avalon Royal Palace, Linis bowed slightly to Airael before addressing her, “Your Majesty.”
At that moment, Airael’s belly was already quite pronounced.
The child was more than seven months along, and she would be due in a month or two.
Regarding Airael’s pregnancy, the rumor that surfaced after meticulous discussion with Linis was that it was a divine gift.
Regardless of whether others believed it or not, it concealed Airael’s own behavior issues.
Nevertheless, for the Elven Race, welcoming a new life was undoubtedly a good thing.
Especially since this new life was a royal heir, a child of divine blessing.
Of course, it also served as a foundation for their upcoming actions.
“Airael, did you summon me in such a rush because of something important?”
“Indeed, it’s very urgent.”
Linis’s expression turned serious.
She exchanged a discreet glance with Airael, subtly directing her gaze towards the maidens in the room.
Although Airael disliked being attended to, as her belly grew larger, it became increasingly inconvenient for her to handle certain tasks.
Thus, in favorable conditions, she naturally did not reject being wait on.
After all, it was for the sake of the child; if anything went wrong with the little one, she wouldn’t even have time to cry.
Airael noticed the glance and, with a calm expression, said, “You all may leave! Linis and I have very important matters to discuss, and please do not disturb us.”
The maidens obediently retreated.
After they left, a smile appeared on Linis’s face.
Her gaze first fell on Airael’s pronounced belly, and she remarked, “The fetus seems healthy. It looks like Your Majesty has been keeping a good routine lately.”
“Of course!”
Upon receiving the compliment, Airael felt a bit proud.
She had indeed been working hard for this child.
She had sacrificed a lot, and what was a little more?
Recalling something, Airael looked at Linis and asked, “Linis, you didn’t come just to discuss the baby, did you?”
“Your Majesty, the potions we talked about before are almost ready, and we’re just waiting for the final experimental phase. Plus, we have found several elven couples who are quite willing to accept our proposal.”
After she spoke, Linis revealed a bittersweet smile.
“Linis, it’s natural that old methods don’t suit the new era. The population issue among the Elven Race is indeed a major problem; any knowledgeable elf can see that. Therefore, we truly cannot continue to adhere to old conventions; we must find ways to solve this issue.”
“Your Majesty, I understand!”
Linis replied.
Earlier, she was just expressing her feelings.
Upon hearing Linis’s response, Airael smiled.
She knew that Linis’s mindset had truly begun to change at that moment.
Since her thoughts had been somewhat liberated, it would be much easier for Airael to explore new ideas moving forward.
Suddenly remembering something, Airael asked Linis, “By the way, are you sure there won’t be any problems with the potions?”
“While we don’t know the final effects yet, I can guarantee there won’t be any major side effects. At most, it might cause some slight discomfort, but that’ll resolve in a few days. After all, our Elven Race has good recovery abilities.”
“That’s good to hear. We’re doing this for the benefit of the Elven Race, so let’s ensure we don’t screw it up in the end. Those couples willing to participate in the experiment are heroes of the Elven Race; please take good care of them.”
“Yes, Your Majesty!”
Linis responded.
It was something she would do even without Airael’s order.
“Linis, I am really looking forward to the success of this experiment. If it succeeds, although we may not solve the population problem in a short period, looking long-term, it’s not impossible for us to return to our previous glory.”
Although it seemed like an unreachable dream, under Airael’s words, Linis couldn’t help but start imagining.
This was a dream that every elf harbored deep inside.
From being the world’s dominant race to now, it was a tremendous blow to the elves.
It caused some elves to become complacent, losing their drive and descending into a life of mediocrity.
What Airael and the others were doing was precisely to change all of this.
To reinvigorate the Elven Race and lead them towards revival.
Returning to the height of their former glory didn’t seem impossible in Airael’s eyes.
Based on experiences from her past life, as various technologies develop in the future, while population remains an important factor, technology can replace some of that need.
Especially in warfare; Airael had already planned to adopt an elite soldier approach.
That kind of direct military confrontation wasn’t suitable for the Elven Race, where if both sides had nearly equal strength, the result would generally lead to inflicting a thousand points of damage upon the enemy while suffering eight hundred on their side.
The Elven Race, adopting this elite soldier approach, needed to fully leverage their individual strengths, but this didn’t mean they would abandon teamwork.
The elite soldier strategy merely reduced the scale of an independent unit.
For example, if a thousand-person unit could act independently before, now a hundred-person unit could manage just the same.
According to Airael’s plan, the future Elven Legion would be a magical army focused on sea and air.
Every elf would balance magic and melee combat, fighting for the Elven Race while piloting war machines developed by their kind.
With this, Domiya and her team would become quite significant.
In recent months, Domiya’s team had also gained many new members.
As previous members gradually got trained, many projects could be carried out simultaneously.
Therefore, Airael was determined to help Domiya secure research funding by any means possible.
If finances couldn’t be supplied directly from the treasury, other avenues were sought.
For instance, through educational investments.
Let’s not forget that research and education were, to some extent, intertwined according to Airael’s vision.
In any case, as long as she wanted to invest money, there were plenty of ways.
Linis had nothing to say against it.
As long as such matters weren’t made public, it was fine.
Otherwise, if the Elven Royal City made a big deal out of military research, it could really lead to trouble.
