Chapter 47: The Unrest of the Elven Army
As Alexander dined, Suratu did not take his leave.
At Alexander’s invitation, he stayed to share lunch with him.
With a solution to the dilemma in his heart, Alexander swept away his earlier gloom and felt his appetite surge.
Everything tasted incredibly delicious, far better than usual.
Before long, the table was cleared of food, thanks to Alexander and Suratu.
Of course, a significant portion had ended up in Alexander’s stomach.
After lunch, the mentor and apprentice began to discuss the plan they had just devised in detail.
However, due to Alexander’s limited knowledge of the oceanic races, most of the time he was listening to Suratu, the erudite Grand Mage, occasionally offering his own thoughts.
The two maintained a harmonious atmosphere in their discussions.
Once they wrapped up their discussion, Suratu exited Alexander’s room.
Upon stepping outside, his expression turned serious.
Although he had spoken pleasantly to Alexander, the actual situation would need to be tested to know for sure.
To be frank, he was a bit unsure about the situation in the sea.
But one thing he was certain of.
If the Human Race could indeed gain assistance from those ocean-dwelling creatures, they would undoubtedly secure victory in this battle.
The Elven Race was strong, but they were on the sea now.
The sea was a paradise for those creatures of the deep.
These land-dwelling races had innate disadvantages when facing those deep-sea beings.
For instance, the recent storm had left the massive Human fleet in disarray.
While the Elven Race on this island was unaware that the humans were plotting a grand strategy, they were also preparing for battle.
Despite achieving considerable results in recent days, the Elven Race’s resource consumption was enormous.
Especially in terms of arrows.
Once those arrows were shot, they couldn’t be retrieved.
Meanwhile, the consumption of Mages had also been significant.
Especially from the giant War Magic cast that day.
This level of magic exceeded what these Mages were originally capable of.
Though with the aid of the massive Magic Circle, they didn’t have to worry much as everything was overseen by Domiya, the Grand Mage, the depletion of their Magic Power was very real.
The immense drain on their magical energy, combined with so many consecutive days without proper rest, was proving too much for some of the weaker Mages.
Fortunately, since the launch of the giant War Magic, the Human Race had ceased large-scale attacks.
As a result, the Elven Race no longer needed to deploy giant War Magic to fend off Human assaults.
In his office, Krul observed the severe depletion arising from the Elven efforts to resist Human attacks and asked a nearby aide, “How long until the support ships from the homeland arrive?”
Despite dealing with countless matters, he remembered that support ships had been dispatched from the homeland, yet he couldn’t recall when exactly they were due.
Moreover, this information was continually updated, and he had little time to keep an eye on those ships.
Typically, it was the aides beside him who managed those affairs.
Unless a significant event occurred, they often delayed reporting to him unless necessary.
Thus, when he inquired, the aide quickly recalled and replied, “According to previous reports, they should arrive in the next couple of days.”
Krul nodded, feeling relieved.
If they were due in a few days, then the supplies on the island were not in critical trouble.
Although resources had been heavily depleted over the past days, two days were still manageable.
However, those supplies had to arrive safely.
If they didn’t, the Elven occupants would be in danger.
How could they fight when supplies ran low?
Considering the importance of the support ships, Krul hesitated for a moment, then declared, “Order Mohas to lead his men in escorting our support ships.”
“Understood!”
The aide promptly accepted the order and headed out.
Krul then returned to his work.
After conveying Krul’s command to the messengers outside, the aide returned to assist Krul with ongoing tasks.
Meanwhile, Mohas, who received the order, was excited as he prepared his troops for departure.
On the first day of battle, he and his men had engaged the Human forces in fierce combat.
These days, Krul had not assigned them any significant tasks, allowing them to rest well.
However, staying idle for too long wasn’t ideal either.
As soldiers, they yearned for accomplishments.
Accomplishments!
Not only would they gain honor but also receive tangible rewards in resources.
Now, they finally had a new mission.
Besides resources, Krul was thinking of reinforcements.
Though the island’s forces hadn’t suffered significant casualties lately, the constant fighting had left many Elven soldiers fatigued.
It wasn’t just the Mages who had participated in casting the giant War Magic, but also the Elven Soldiers always fighting on the front line.
While he had arranged for some Elven Soldiers to rest, the overall number of Elven troops meant he couldn’t afford to withdraw too many at once.
A significant withdrawal would leave vulnerabilities in the island’s defense.
Reinforcements arriving would greatly help alleviate this issue.
However, he also knew that reinforcements weren’t instant.
With the sparse Elven population, it was challenging to muster a large number of troops while maintaining production at the rear.
Moreover, the Elven forces had to guard not just this island but also other locations to prevent surprise attacks from humans or their allies.
This island might be the primary battlefield, but they couldn’t neglect other lesser points.
A war couldn’t focus on just one front; it had to be considered in its entirety.
For instance, his domain, Silnas Island.
As a crucial rear base, it served as a shield for the Elven homeland to the east. Even with him at the front, a contingent of troops needed to be stationed there to prevent humans from raiding.
Just as Mohas set off with his troops,
The Human forces immediately relayed news of the Elven troop movements to Alexander.
Alexander began analyzing the reasons behind the Elven unrest with his think tank.
He was quite concerned about this matter.
He and his teacher had just agreed on a plan.
If anything went wrong at this moment, it would truly be anguish.
However, due to the limited information, they spent much of the day deliberating without reaching a conclusion.
