Chapter 197

A massive amount of mana flowing out from the body.

The mana that gathered in front of the Predator coalesced into a large sphere and quickly transformed into a humanoid figure.

Enormous fists and the white gauntlet panels covering them.

On its back was a large propulsion device reminiscent of a rocket, and atop a face that resembled a human’s was a single horn jutting upward toward the sky.

A noble knight in white.

Before our group appeared a giant 20 meters tall, surpassing even the massive Predator.

– KROOOOO!!!

The Predator emitted a loud roar in response to the appearance of a larger enemy, attempting to intimidate it.

The white knight stood still, silently gazing at the foe.

BRAIN extended a hand toward us.

– KROOOO!!

Roaring once more, the colossal creature thundered toward us with heavy footfalls.

The great tremor rippling through the ground.

As it approached, I issued my command.

“EXCALIBUR! Crush it!”

EXCALIBUR raised both hands, eyes gleaming.

The white knight took a step forward, one leg back, bent its knees to gather momentum, then surged forth like a spring releasing.

KUH-KUH-KUH-

The loud, heavy footfalls echoing around.

The giant beast and the 20-meter giant clashed without fear of the impending collision.

KWAAANG!

– KROOO!

The Predator, being pushed back while dragging its feet across the ground.

Though EXCALIBUR’s posture was somewhat shaken, the knight’s mass and weight prevented being pushed back by the Predator.

– KROOOOO!!

The Predator roared, lifting its large mechanical hands to either side.

EXCALIBUR crossed its arms, entering a fighting stance.

KUH-KUH-KUH-

The giant and colossal beast charged at each other again.

Right before impact, the Predator swung its steel fist while EXCALIBUR raised both arms above its head.

KWAAANG!

A deep booming sound resounded as EXCALIBUR’s stance wavered slightly under the shock.

The knight bent its body as if gathering strength and then spread its arms wide.

– KROOO?!

Under the sudden powerful force on its arms, the Predator’s stance faltered.

Seizing the opportunity, EXCALIBUR’s fist struck the Predator’s abdomen.

TUNG!

With a heavy sound, the Predator staggered.

Losing its balance, the colossal creature fell backward.

KOOOONG!

– KYAAAK!

– KEEEEK!

The cries of agony from smaller Cryptids caught in the Predator’s fall.

As EXCALIBUR moved forward to deliver a follow-up attack on the fallen Predator, two turrets mounted above aimed at the giant.

PAWING! KWAANG!

The large-caliber turrets fired in sequence.

Without time to evade, a shell struck EXCALIBUR’s upper body, and a black explosion blossomed.

The 20-meter giant staggered backward, its posture disrupted.

KOOOGOONG-

While EXCALIBUR knelt, the Predator took the opportunity to rise.

– KROOO!

The colossal beast’s ferocious roar.

In response, the white giant steadied its stance.

‘This is it, this is the dream.’

The clash of the massive weapon and the colossal beast.

My forgotten love for robotic battles surged, and my mouth watered with excitement.

KUNG, KAANG!

Repetitive, heavy sounds continued.

The continued heavy exchanges between EXCALIBUR, leveraging its sturdy gauntlets and immense destructive power, and Predator with its six arms and turrets, carried on.

A battle between a giant monstrous beast and mobile weapon such as one only seen in movies.

As I was absorbed in that battle, a deafening sound reached my ears.

TAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!

Gunfire from the pass we had passed through.

Followed by the roars of the Cryptid horde.

‘Ahh, now’s not the time.’

I wiped away the drool from my sleeve and slapped my cheeks.

Regaining my senses, I issued instructions to the three summoned beings and marionettes waiting nearby.

“Marionettes, head back through the passage and join up with the other squad to hold back the enemy. Baby, Girl, Boy, let’s circle around the room and approach the brain.”

[Confirmed.]

The marionettes nodded and quickly dashed toward the passage.

The three summoned beings also nodded, maintaining close proximity as they took the lead.

– KRRLLL.

– KEEEEK!

The Cryptid horde appeared to be focused on the battle between Predator and EXCALIBUR, not noticing us.

Well, such a grand battle is bound to capture attention.

While pondering that, I crept past the Cryptids and moved inward.

As our distance to the brain got fairly close, a vibration traveled through the ground.

– KYA-AH!

– KIEEEE!!

The roars of monsters from the fallen ceiling could be heard.

They must have called for reinforcements.

Even if they wanted to avoid the fight, they likely prioritized dealing with the intruders who had penetrated so deeply.

Making the decision and summoning another being, I called out.

“Summon, Hand Glider! Armament COMP-A1(S)!”

A small glider appeared above my head.

Though its small wings and slender body might appear weak, the explosives contained within certainly were not.

– KYA-RK?

One Cryptid noticed the change.

The thought transmitted through the collective consciousness reached the brain, and its gangly arms turned toward us.

“Release the Collection!”

Suddenly, a medium-sized tracked tank appeared before us.

Clad in numerous weapons and black armor plating, the steel fortress mobilized.

[ SHT-03 DURANDAL mobilized. Please give your command, Commander.]

“Clear the surrounding enemy!”

[Order confirmed. Commencing attack.]

The echoing booms of cannons and the heavy gunfire of co-axial machine guns.

The Cryptids attacking from blind spots were countered by the three summoned beings.

Baby raining bullets, Girl and Boy tearing enemies apart with merciless attacks.

As I climbed onto the engine section of the medium tank and issued instructions to the hand glider,

“All charge! Aim for the brain!”

The hand gliders zipped toward the brain.

– !!!

Seeing that, the brain slowly stepped back while crossing its two hands in front of itself.

The Cryptid horde swiftly gathered, forming a living wall with their bodies.

Cryptids capable of ranged attacks established a firing line, and some gliders were intercepted and fell.

PUNG! KWAAANG!

Explosions and shockwaves erupting.

The surviving hand gliders flew toward the Cryptid wall and the brain.

Explosions continued in quick succession along with brilliant flashes of light.

A black explosion cloud covered them, scattering remains and blood of the medium and small Cryptids around.

As the smoke cleared and the enemy’s appearance re-emerged,

However, the targeted brain was merely cloaked in a hazy barrier, showing no damage at all.

“Durandal, attack the brain!”

[Order confirmed, main cannon firing.]

GOONG!

The incoming shell in the blink of an eye.

The gangly six hands of the brain extended forward.

KEEEEENG-

The shell hovering motionless in mid-air.

The tremor slowly increased in intensity and with a KUNG sound, the shell was crushed.

PAWANG!

The shell exploding mid-air.

Still, is it truly a Grade 9 Cryptid that effortlessly defends against our attacks?

Until now, I’ve dealt with it by leveraging the size difference, but engaging in direct combat is turning out to be quite an arduous task.

Wait, size difference?

Ah, that’s right, that method!

“Durandal, accelerate!”

[Order confirmed, accelerating to maximum speed.]

The engine powerfully roared.

A large cloud of black smoke billowed out, and the steel fortress began an unstoppable advance.

KURURURUNG-

Durandal crushed all blocking Cryptids and debris as it advanced.

– !!

The brain, recognizing our intent, began to slowly ascend into the air.

“Durandal, shoot!”

GOONG!

The main cannon firing again.

As the brain frantically extended its hands to stop the shell, Durandal rapidly approached.

The main cannon turned backward in preparation for collision.

– !!!

Noticing that, the brain urgently attempted to ascend.

But I can’t let it escape that easily.

“Summon, Hand Glider! Armament COMP-A1(S)!”

The glider squadron appeared around me.

“Attack the brain!”

The gliders, laden with explosives, flew toward the brain once more.

PHWUNG, KWAAANG!

Unlike before, the brain couldn’t completely block the attack and its body wobbled from the impact.

Over it, a large shadow loomed.

KWACH.

The brain crushed under the weight of hundreds of tons.

With the continuous rotation of the endless treads, the body was crushed completely and the brain’s breath was cut off for sure.

– KROOO!?

– KEEEEK!!

– KYAAAK!

Strange phenomena occurring in the Predator battling EXCALIBUR and the advancing Cryptids.

The Cryptids, having lost their central commander, fell into confusion, their suppressed wild instincts awakening once more.

Looking around the crowd of Cryptids quickly revealed no presence of lower commander, Pheromone, nor mid-level commander, Synapse.

‘So they hastily rallied the troops?’

A smile naturally formed on my face.

Since the corridor space was limited, in a way it was a rational choice.

But that choice turns into the worst blunder.

“Seoli!”

“Yes!! Over here!!”

Seoli jumping around on the medium tank, waving her hands.

The gaze of the Cryptids turned towards this direction upon hearing her voice.

The confusion quickly subsided, and the hostility in their eyes disappeared.

The colossal beast Predator, battling EXCALIBUR, approached us slowly.

KUNG! KUNG! KUNG!

The heavy footsteps shaking the ground.

The six arms crossed in front of its body, the massive head slowly bowed.

Seoli hopped off the medium tank and approached Predator.

The metal-covered skin made contact with Seoli’s hand, and the adult figure turned its head toward us with a nod.

“Yeah! Now Seoli’s in charge!!”

– KROOO!

Predator roared mightily in affirmation.

The assimilant and elite Cryptid, along with its group, joined Seoli’s side.
