Chapter 88: Arthur’s Love Battle
Faced with Airael’s stubbornness and refusal to back down, Arthur couldn’t help but feel a bit overwhelmed.
He certainly couldn’t take care of Airael right here!
After all, this was the Avalon Royal Palace.
Though the thought was quite thrilling, stirring up some reckless excitement within him, his rationality held firm against such urges.
Even if he didn’t consider himself, he had to think of this lovely lady before him.
If word got out about this little escapade, it would merely be an amusing tale for him, leaving him with nothing but envy and resentment from others afterward.
But for Ailia, it would be a different story.
It would severely damage her dignity.
While it wasn’t possible to handle things with Airael right here, that didn’t mean Arthur was ready to concede defeat.
He had come this far; there was no way he’d allow himself to lose now.
Looking at the enchanting Airael so close before him, Arthur’s eyes brimmed with deep affection.
Airael shivered under Arthur’s gaze.
However, a hint of satisfaction welled up inside her.
She was curious to see what Arthur would do next.
“Ailia!”
Arthur spoke up.
“Stop—!”
Just as he began, Airael quickly interrupted him.
Meeting Arthur’s bewildered look, Airael explained, “My real name is Airael. Arthur, you already know that, right?”
Arthur smiled and replied, “I prefer to call you Ailia.”
“That won’t do! Ailia is just a pseudonym I used while wandering the continent. Right now, you stand before the queen of the Elven Race—Airael.”
Airael flashed a mischievous smile.
At this moment, she’d do anything to annoy Arthur.
Though she was ready to embrace all this, if it came too easily, wouldn’t that make her seem cheap?
Even though she had long given herself, it wasn’t too late to recover her losses.
If all went well, she could reclaim both her principal and interest.
Arthur wore a bitter smile of resignation.
He was all too aware of the current situation.
Yet, even knowing that Airael was being intentionally difficult, he could only grit his teeth and toe the line, inching forward until she was satisfied.
After mentally preparing himself, Arthur replied, “Alright, your royal highness Airael.”
“Just call me Aira; you can skip the rest,” Airael said with a slight frown.
“Yes, Aira.”
At that, Airael nodded satisfaction, signaling Arthur to continue.
“Aira, I know my current strength is quite weak, making it difficult to ensure your safety and Anna’s. But please believe me, I will do everything in my power to become stronger, to protect you and Anna so that you can live carefree and happily in this world.”
Airael nodded in response, “And?”
Though those words sounded lovely, they had little practical meaning in the present.
To be blunt, who could predict the future?
Moreover, this was merely a promise to her and her daughter.
Arthur hadn’t realized that their union wasn’t just between the two of them; it represented the connection between the Elven Race and the Human Race.
Stumped by Airael’s question, Arthur found himself momentarily speechless.
He thought what he said was good enough, yet Airael’s demeanor suggested she wasn’t satisfied.
Watching Arthur, still oblivious, Airael felt a hint of impatience.
Was this guy really going to remain stuck like this?
While keeping personal feelings separate from public matters was good, this time he couldn’t afford to think that way.
Their union was destined to be more than just a private affair; they represented their respective races.
Noticing the disappointment in Airael’s eyes made Arthur anxious. Gritting his teeth, he finally spoke, “Aira! Though we didn’t get off to a great start, with me being indifferent and you pestering me, I want you to know I’ve missed you. I really like you! In the time you’ve been gone, I thought of you every day and hope you come back to my side…”
Listening to Arthur pour out his emotions and reminisce about their limited past, Airael sighed internally.
Arthur’s words indeed struck a chord in her heart.
But he still hadn’t grasped the crux of the matter!
Airael felt herself growing frantic.
After calming down, she knew she had to give Arthur some rather obvious hints.
Otherwise, she might be waiting until the next century for her desired answer.
Looking at Arthur, who finally paused, Airael spoke, “Arthur, I’d like to ask you a question.”
“What’s your question?” Arthur replied.
“What do you think about the future relationship between the Human Race and the Elven Race?”
Airael inquired.
Then she awaited Arthur’s response.
She felt she had hinted quite clearly.
Moreover, even if Arthur didn’t dig deeper, just answering her question would suffice as a response.
The relationship between elves and humans?
Suddenly shifting the topic to this, Arthur felt blindsided.
However, once he collected himself, he looked at Airael and said, “Aira, I believe humans and elves can coexist peacefully.”
Arthur answered affirmatively.
He had considered this previously.
Upon discovering that his Ailia was the elven queen, Arthur knew the relationship between the Human Race and the Elven Race was a topic he couldn’t avoid.
“Why do you say that? Can you give me a reason?”
With the conversation finally steering toward what she truly wanted to discuss, Airael smiled and asked.
“Aira, you should know that many things humans learned from the Elven Race, the most notable being magic. This allows elves and humans to establish a relatively good communication channel.”
Airael nodded.
She had to admit that Arthur’s words were quite reasonable.
Magic was just one of the many examples; there were plenty of other commonalities.
Take aesthetics, for instance.
Human aesthetics were learned from the Elven Race.
Within these realms, they had always been guided by elves.
The various luxury items produced by elves were very popular among humans, particularly accessories.
These helped establish a communication channel between elves and humans.
With stable communication, the friction between the two sides lessened significantly.
Accordingly, it became much easier for humans and elves to coexist peacefully.
With numerous thoughts racing through her mind, Airael continued, “Arthur, you just said something pretty solid. So do you understand now?”
