Chapter 69: Airael’s Unexpected Visit
When Arthur and the others arrived at the Elven Royal City, Airael, who had been closely monitoring everything, immediately caught wind of the news.
At that moment, Airael was busy with administrative issues.
Recently, there had been a lot going on with the Elven Race.
And it had something to do with her.
Naturally, this was influenced by the upcoming competition to be held in the royal city.
Although the elves had come to respect Airael as their queen, the topic of her marrying a human still sparked considerable controversy among them.
Despite having initially agreed to this arrangement with humans, it was made under duress.
Now that the moment was truly approaching, some elves still struggled to accept it.
Airael needed to calm them down.
She had to ensure they wouldn’t create problems at such a crucial time.
Even if she decided to call off the wedding, now wasn’t the time.
The Elven Race was still gathering strength.
And whether or not she married was less important because of Arthur’s existence.
Should Arthur secure victory in the competition, it wouldn’t really matter if she later had regrets about the marriage.
After all, she and Arthur already had a history, even if it was under the name of the human Ailia, and now they had a child together.
After digesting this information, Airael paused briefly before returning to her tasks.
Meanwhile, after revealing their identities upon arriving at the Elven Royal City, Arthur and his party followed a pre-arranged guide to settle into various inns throughout the city.
Due to the competition and the fact that the contestants represented different nations and were rivals, it was necessary to separate them to minimize any potential incidents.
Upon reaching the inn, both Arthur and Karina were filled with curiosity.
Unlike the inns they had seen before, the accommodations in the Elven Royal City were far more exquisite.
It wasn’t just the exterior; the interiors were equally impressive.
Every corner was intricately designed.
“This place feels like a dream come true!”
Karina exclaimed, gazing at the splendid room as she followed Arthur inside.
However, after initially being impressed, Arthur was less concerned about the opulence.
What lingered on his mind was Ailia.
He was in the same city as Ailia now.
Ailia, you must know I’ve come here, right?!
Arthur sighed internally.
Returning to the present, he turned to Karina and said, “Karina, I don’t need you to exert too much effort here, and the inn has dedicated staff. Why don’t you check on your room instead?”
“Understood, Master!”
After hearing his words, Karina composed herself and respectfully withdrew.
As she left, she thoughtfully closed the room door behind Arthur.
Inside, Arthur walked over to the window.
From the windowsill, he could see the Elven Royal Palace.
As the tallest structure within the royal city, anyone facing the palace within their line of sight could view its magnificent architecture.
Looking at the palace, Arthur knew Airael resided there now.
However, the palace was heavily guarded, and he couldn’t simply infiltrate it to meet Ailia.
He couldn’t act recklessly either.
So, Arthur could only hope Ailia would come out to see him, or that he could catch a glimpse of her during the upcoming competition.
Even just a distant sight of her would suffice to satisfy him.
Time passed into the afternoon.
Three cloaked figures arrived at the inn where Arthur was staying.
“Is this the place?”
The leader of the trio was none other than the disguised Airael.
She was here to address matters between herself and Arthur.
Of course, she couldn’t attend as a queen.
So, disguising herself was essential.
As for Anna, she was taken care of by Hela that afternoon.
“Yes, this is it.”
Celia, also in disguise, nodded in reply.
She had been handling this matter all along.
Speaking of tough jobs, Airael often assigned Celia tasks that required a more extroverted approach since Aurora tended to be more reserved.
“Alright!”
Airael nodded lightly, then stepped inside.
Celia and Aurora followed closely behind.
Once inside the inn, the trio promptly arrived outside Arthur’s room.
Just then, Karina, coming out from her room after a post-lunch nap, happened to spot the mysterious figures lingering outside her master’s room.
“Who are you? What are you doing standing outside the master’s room?”
Karina, as Arthur’s maid, inquired.
The gazes of Airael and her companions shifted instantly to Karina.
They recognized her.
After all, Karina was their planted spy beside Arthur, though neither she nor Arthur were aware of this.
Karina only knew she was serving a mysterious organization.
“We are friends of Axi. Hearing he was here, we came to check on him.”
Karina couldn’t help but marvel at the number of mysterious friends her master seemed to have!
She had her suspicions, yet sometimes it was better to trust what one couldn’t confirm than dismiss a possibility.
After pondering, Karina bowed deeply and said, “I apologize for the intrusion, then, friends of the master.”
“No problem!”
Airael smiled.
“It’s us who are interrupting you.”
Saying this, Airael beckoned Celia to knock on the door.
Earlier, they had tried the door and found it locked from the inside.
Knock! Knock!…
The door reverberated as Celia knocked.
Inside, having awakened from his afternoon nap, Arthur heard the knocks and rushed to the door.
Upon opening it, three cloaked figures appeared before him.
“It’s been a while, Axi. You remember me, right?”
Upon seeing Arthur, Airael greeted him.
Hearing Airael’s voice, Arthur’s pupils constricted.
He scrutinized the three mysterious figures before him, noticing their familiar colors.
“It’s been a while, Ai… Mia!”
Hearing the name Arthur hastily conjured, a smile crept onto Airael’s lips beneath her cloak.
It seemed they shared a certain chemistry.
Today, she couldn’t reveal either of her identities.
That would lead to serious complications.
“I heard you were here; since I’m here too, I thought I’d drop by for a chat. Mind if I step in?”
“Of course! Please, come in!”
Arthur immediately stepped aside, allowing Airael to enter.
Watching Arthur suppress his eagerness, Airael stifled a chuckle as she walked inside.
Once she was in, Celia dutifully closed the door behind them and stood guard with Aurora, like a door sentinel.
