Chapter Fifty-Eight: Stars Descending from Heaven
At this moment, it wasn’t just the Pretty Cure who felt anxious; even the “Earth Observatory,” constantly monitoring the situation in space, was swarmed with worry due to the extremely abnormal data.
“What on earth is happening?” The research director, in their white lab coat, hurriedly ran into the main control room responsible for monitoring astronomical conditions. “Did you say a small asteroid has left its original orbital path?”
“Yes! We detected abnormalities occurring on this planet. Its surface temperature is rapidly rising, and nuclear reactions are beginning as the force for propulsion!” The researcher, holding a bundle of fresh documents, reported nervously, sweat beginning to soak through the papers. “A small asteroid originally orbiting Jupiter suddenly left its path and is now heading straight for Earth!”
“In that case, this asteroid will inevitably fall onto Earth!”
“How is this possible?!” Gazing at the figures on the paper and screen, the director’s past scientific views shattered, eyes widening in disbelief. “With no visible influence, it suddenly departed its trajectory, not only escaped gravity capture by other planets but directly raced towards Earth?! Why would such a thing happen!?”
“Director, no matter how we calculate it, we cannot avoid the worst-case scenario!”
As the data continued to pile up, an atmosphere of despair began to spread in the control room, even though invisible dark violet flames were escaping from the demoralized researchers, drifting toward distant worlds.
—in the “Unthinkable Library”—
Originally used as a secret base for the Precure team in another world, this “Unthinkable Library” usually stocked snacks and tea brought by the girls, creating an atmosphere closer to a casual gathering for chatting and relaxation rather than a strict battle station.
“The enemies seem very powerful this time, so it’s not bad to hear what tactical plan Ash can propose,” they had thought before coming here.
But now, this relaxed atmosphere had completely disappeared, all because of Ash’s words. The girls, wide-eyed, stared at the man sitting at the other end of the round table, especially struck with shock after hearing his words.
“Stars!”
“Are falling from the sky!”
“Out of orbit?!”
“To be precise, it’s a small asteroid that has been ejected and is now falling down… You can call it stars if you want,” ignoring the tears falling down Sugar’s face, Ash, making her pay for attacking him, grabbed her cheeks and pulled at them, using them as stress-relief.
“But if stars really are falling…”
Miyuki, inspired by something, took out a star-shaped accessory from her box and activated it with her makeup kit, instantly transforming the room into a night-like scene with countless dazzling stars raining down from the sky, captivating the girls’ attention.
“Look, isn’t this super romantic, even a meteor shower? Ultrahappy– Ahh, ouch!”
Holding back her fist, Ash shook his head at her foolishness. “Honestly, I thought you were just a fool before, but being such a fool that you wouldn’t even qualify as a common fool… you better not let Sydney people hear that.”
“Why not…” Miyuki, tears in her eyes like Sugar’s, expressed the same exasperation. “And Mr. Ash… Sugar apologized, shouldn’t you let go now?”
“And besides, my failure to prevent it means I should share the blame. Punish me too!”
“Forget it. Anyway…” Amidst everyone else’s shame-faced looks, Ash continued pulling on Miyuki’s tear-stained face, crying “Ah ah.” “What you’ll see won’t be a meteor shower, but a part of the sky falling down!”
“The phenomenon of meteors is caused when celestial bodies caught by Earth’s gravity burn up while passing through the atmosphere. So here’s the question.” Releasing a momentary touch from Miyuki’s reddened face, his finger tapped against the rosy, thin lips. “If the friction didn’t fully burn it up, and it fell to the ground instead, what would happen then?”
“Then it’d become a meteorite,” Rihua, the most knowledgeable among them, explained. “Historical records indicate that in various countries, meteorites have indeed hit the ground, and at times, such events were perceived as divine occurrences.”
“Let’s put aside whether the meteorite is a god or not,” Ash pushed his finger against Miyuki’s lips, silencing her so that he could speak. “What if this meteorite was very, very huge?”
This…
Seeing even Rihua pause, as if hitting a knowledge blind spot, Ash didn’t get annoyed. Instead, he wrote a long string of data next to “asteroid” marked on his proposal sheet.
“This small asteroid heading toward Earth, we might as well call it ‘Axus’…” Suddenly feeling that name a bit ominous, Ash replaced it. “For now, let’s call it ‘Primitive Lifeform Nibiru.'”
Ignoring Yayo, who had a dead look in her eyes, Ash continued messing with Miyuki’s face while speaking. “Based on my calculations, this ‘primitive lifeform’ is about 10 kilometers in diameter, similar to the famous Halley’s Comet.”
“Although we don’t know how much of this primitive body is gas or liquid, for our calculation purposes, it must not be less than a trillion tons.”
Letting go of Miyuki, who was lost in the sheer numbers, Ash scribbled down incredibly exaggerated figures on the proposal sheet.
“The Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, which collided with Jupiter in ’94, had an explosive power equivalent to billions of [sensitive content] bombs. If that ‘primitive lifeform’ Nibiru falls onto Earth, the results will be much worse!”
“Just wait a minute,” While uncertain what [censored] meant, the girls nonetheless felt increasingly terrified by the growing magnitude. “If it drops, what will happen to our parents and classmates?”
“Boom—” Ash made an explosion sound with his voice, causing the girls to glance at one another.
“After it falls, whatever remains on the ground will likely re-experience what happened 65 million years ago.”
“Of course, that’s assuming there’s still life on the surface.”
