Chapter 175: The Boundless Dark Realm Part 30

It was past midnight. Today marked August 20th, the fourth dawn since her return.

The current time was 00:36.

Patrolling the old industrial zone of Tonglin City for consecutive nights had left Kui Xin exhausted. She decided she would go straight home to sleep after tonight’s work. She would catch up on some rest tomorrow morning.

There must be a lot more to deal with in the days to come. Kui Xin needed to maintain a good condition to handle any sudden crises.

She kicked an alien creature’s corpse with her foot, flipping it over completely.

This particular corpse was oddly shaped, like a writhing mass of greenish-black slime, its semi-transparent body enclosing several “cores.” When she cut the wriggling alien creature in two, it didn’t die but split into two halves, each capable of living independently. Only by destroying its “core” did it stop moving.

Many of the alien creatures that emerged from the “Gate” tonight were ones she didn’t recognize. She saw a creature with eighteen eyes on its forehead, one that attacked humans with ultrasound, and another that was covered with growths and made one want to vomit just by looking at it. And then there was this ‘slime’…

Some varieties of alien creatures were ones Kui Xin had never seen before during her studies at the Investigation Bureau. Were those records missing from the database? Or were these alien creature details classified and her level wasn’t high enough to access them? If Adam was here, she could ask him.

Kui Xin roamed around the south edge, searching outward from her route. Most of this area had been cleared, and she hadn’t encountered another target for quite some time.

She exhaled and stretched her aching shoulders with one hand.

In the legend of the Seven Days of Blood, when the ancient gods appeared, some alien creatures started to appear in the world. Many myths from the second world were based on alien creatures; others sank into slumber and never surfaced again.

In other words, people’s understanding of alien creatures in the second world might just be scratching the surface. One can analyze and learn about what they’ve seen, but how does one understand things they’ve never seen?

Kui Xin smoothed out her battle-torn clothes and planned to check out another location briefly.

The alien creatures that poured out through the gate earlier tonight didn’t pose much of a threat. The gate only opened momentarily, so the quantity of alien creatures that came out must have been low.

Her main concern was whether the “Gate of the Dark Realm” would appear and release a large number of alien creatures every midnight thereafter.

Just like the aerial city illusion, initially, it was just a few seconds, then the illusion stayed in the sky longer and longer…

It’s like heating a frog in gradually warming water.

At first, everything seemed normal, but as events unfold, the situation became increasingly uncontrollable.

Kui Xin walked slowly along the street without intending to conceal herself.

She found that these alien creatures were very aggressive. They would definitely attack if she appeared before them. Kui Xin considered herself bait to lure the aliens into attacking her.

Minutes later, a pool of black mud silently approached her feet, forming a dark little hand that extended from within and pulled her trouser leg slightly.

“What’s wrong?” Kui Xin looked puzzled at the Shadow Double.

The dark hand pointed at Kui Xin’s pocket where her mobile phone was stored. She had not checked it since entering combat mode.

Coming to her senses, Kui Xin pulled out her phone and saw a message from Su Rong.

“Sister Xin Xin, I’m so tired. The Shadow Double has lasted for a long time, draining my strength. It won’t last much longer. Maintaining it without attacking reduces the drain.”

“Alright. As long as it doesn’t put your body under severe strain,” Kui Xin replied.

Su Rong responded, “Yes! Sister Xin Xin too!”

The combat abilities of the Shadow Double could not be underestimated; it was fast, stealthy, and its arms turned into blade-like structures in attacks. This could be considered nearly perfect in terms of offensive capabilities.

During her operations today, the Shadow Double showed remarkable adaptability. Alongside Kui Xin, it helped defeat one or two less challenging alien creatures. More importantly, the Shadow Double had a learning ability—if it made a mistake, it corrected it in the next scenario.

The Shadow Double was like Su Rong’s shadow yet remained independent as a formidable guardian. Its strength temporarily offset Su Rong’s own weaknesses, making it highly practical.

Upon opening her phone, Kui Xin found another message from He Kangshi.

“The news of alien creatures appearing in Tonglin City has circulated on the forum—a player who explained the legend of the Seven Days of Blood shared it. The forum has gone crazy. Augus contacted me and asked if Depriver 233 is in Tonglin City. I haven’t replied. Here’s the update.”

He Kangshi continued, “Boss, I’m currently patrolling the transitional zone between the suburbs and the city center. Some players seem to have already rushed to the industrial area outside to clear out alien creatures. They need someone to guard the backlines and act as the last防线. So, here I am.”

Another message read, “Boss…I ran into two players on the street. They’re also on night patrol.”

After reading the messages, Kui Xin sent a response asking for a status report.

She had control permissions for He Kangshi’s mobile and used data manipulation to vibration his phone twice to remind him.

On the other side, He Kangshi, noticing his phone vibrating in his pocket, grabbed it hurriedly. Cautiously glancing at the two newfound players, he said, “Let me give my family a call for peace.”

Both players nodded in understanding.

Quickly replying, he told Kui Xin, “No worries, boss. I’m with them now. It’s inconvenient messaging when I’m with people. Don’t worry, I’ve got it under control.”

Kui Xin responded, “Good,” confirming He Kangshi was alive before turning her attention elsewhere.

Engaging with other players had certain benefits for Kui Xin.

He Kangshi was like a card held by Kui Xin—his actions were motivated by genuine concern, which gained him respect among many players. As a reputable individual, the organization he belonged to couldn’t be terrible; it must be powerful enough to protect him. Moreover, He Kangshi’s fame could serve as a brand endorsement for the secretive “Black Snake” and “Shadowless.”

With that, he began the patrol.

The male player whispered, “Don’t you think he seems familiar?”

“Yes, isn’t that the…” The female player replied with a knowing look, “Oh, he’s so memorable. He had over 100k followers when he dressed up as Maicyo in cosplay…”

As a game streamer before retirement, he used to have over a million followers, and it wasn’t uncommon for fans to recognize him in public places…even though He Kangshi changed his hair style, wore plain glasses, and covered his face with a mask.

Despite all the changes, they still recognized him because they watched his videos religiously.

“Don’t say anything,” the male player said.

“Agreed, we’ll act like we don’t know,” the female player concurred.

A reconnaissance unit, the black mud, reached Kui Xin’s feet once again, tugging at her trousers to gain her attention.

“Hmm?” she raised an eyebrow.

The black hand pointed towards her left ahead while mimicking a downward slicing motion with his fingers.

“Alien creature?” Kui Xin walked forward.

The black hand quickly waved a finger, indicating a negative.

“Injured person?” she concluded.

The black hand gave the gesture for agreement.

Ignoring the disturbance, Kui Xin rushed to the indicated spot, swiftly navigating through bushes and weeds. At a nearby tree, she saw a male player sitting half-reclined against the trunk. One of his legs was bleeding; his calf twisted unnaturally, suggesting internal bone fractures. The soft appearance of his bloodied leg indicated the lack of support from bones.

“Extraordinary Ability, Night Vision, Grade E… It allows for normal vision in the dark.”

Since he possessed only one extraordinary ability—without flesh regeneration and only an E-grade ability—he wasn’t a heterogenic blooded individual.

Kui Xin maintained her vigilance, keeping a distance from the player and scanning around for possible alien threats.

She called out, “Hey!”

The player moved his head slightly but lacked the strength to lift it further. In a weak voice, he murmured, “Save me…”

Before Kui Xin could move, her Shadow Double suddenly stirred, jumping forward like a hedgehog, revealing black, sharp spines that blocked her path.

There was someone ahead!

A slightly deep and young voice suddenly filled the air.

“Um, the prey is hooked,” he stepped out from the darkness.

From his physique, he was of similar height to Kui Xin. His voice sounded clear and young, but there was a somber tone in his words.

As he appeared, Kui Xin noticed multiple extraordinary abilities in him…
