Chapter 48: The Counterattack of the Lords II

Chapter 48: The Counterattack of the Lords II

Without the subsequent cold air support, those Warrior Lords who had been frozen rapidly broke free from the icy layers that had confined them.

Though they regained their freedom, memories of the earlier scene sent chills down their spines.

They had nearly turned into ice sculptures!

Airael had been ridiculously powerful to transform them into that state.

These Elven Lords didn’t realize that their immediate encasement in ice wasn’t solely due to Airael’s emitted coldness; it was mainly because of the layer of Mason’s magic that had enveloped them.

Mason’s magic had been utterly crushed by Airael’s, directly causing their freezing.

Without that layer of magic, they definitely wouldn’t have been so swiftly encased in ice.

Meanwhile, Mason’s face looked quite ugly from the back.

He finally understood how Smir felt just moments ago.

Moreover, the consequences of his actions were far more serious than Smir’s; the Warrior Lords now regarded Airael with fear because of his magic.

The Warrior Lords had no idea what had truly transpired.

But he understood very well.

“Mason, don’t dwell on it too much; focus on the battle.”

Seeing this, Smir turned to him and offered words of comfort, then redirected his attention to the battlefield.

Mason shot him a glance, twitching his mouth but saying nothing.

Still, he pulled his mind back from the earlier incident, focusing with Smir on the battle ahead.

Though both of them knew how it all went down, they didn’t explain it to the four up front.

Honestly, it was inexplicable.

In any case, Airael’s power in magic was beyond question.

Her magic could already surpass that of both Mason and Smir.

Saying any of this would only further shake their morale.

For now, things were fine.

Even though they had been instantaneously frozen by Airael’s magic due to Mason’s support, they were now free.

They just needed to be careful moving forward.

Airael looked at the sudden earthen wall rising before her, shaking her head in regret.

The previous effect had indeed taken her by surprise.

She had initially intended to merely limit the movements of those four Warrior Lords with her intangible coldness, never expecting to achieve such a great outcome.

That said, Smir’s reaction wasn’t slow; he quickly devised a counter.

Back to the four Warrior Lords.

The four who failed to attack were still filled with fear towards Airael.

The impression she left was far too deep.

In the face of Airael’s magic, they had no means of resistance, instantly encased in ice by her power.

The four Warrior Lords exchanged glances, achieving a silent understanding, and began to retreat to create distance from Airael.

Watching them back off, Mason and Smir shared a glance.

Following a simple exchange of looks, the two lords reached a consensus.

Mason turned to the four Warrior Lords and said, “Don’t be afraid! While Her Majesty’s magic is powerful, we are no pushovers either. In our weaker days, we often fought bravely against formidable foes and prevailed through our own strength.

Since we had the courage to overcome those fierce enemies before, we still have that courage now. Warriors, summon your courage! Even though we stand before the Queen of the Elven Race, as lords and members of the Elven Council, we have a duty to correct her misapprehensions.”

Having climbed atop the earthen wall, Airael couldn’t help but twitch her mouth at Mason’s words.

Though she knew it was meant to inspire morale in wartime, Mason, you’re playing with fire here!

Airael cast a not-so-friendly gaze at Mason.

Mason felt a chill run down his spine and raised his head to meet Airael’s gaze.

Despite feeling immense pressure, his body stood tall; at this moment, he would not bend.

Their confrontation caught the attention of those nearby.

Influenced by Mason, the Warrior Lords began to feel the fire ignite within them.

“Mason is right! We must correct Her Majesty’s misunderstandings. This time, we must secure victory in battle!”

One of the Warrior Lords, Tugur, shouted.

Mason’s words fired him up to the point that he was tempted to charge in and take Airael on right then and there.

The other Elven Lords felt similar fervor, albeit a bit hesitant.

The psychological shadow Airael had cast upon them earlier was quite heavy.

They could muster courage, but how could they possibly defeat Airael?

In the face of Airael, it wasn’t that they lacked courage; it was more about feeling powerless.

“Summon your courage, Warriors! Mason and I have already devised a countermeasure, and that earlier incident won’t repeat itself.”

At this point, Smir spoke up.

His words helped solidify the Warriors’ resolve.

“Smir, what’s our next move?” Tugur asked, now feeling a plan was in place.

“Although Her Majesty’s magic is formidable, it is not invincible. Just like the Anti-Magic Swords you hold, you can effortlessly dismantle some of her spells. Earlier, Her Majesty simply exploited your weaknesses with a magic you couldn’t fight against.”

Smir’s explanation had the Warrior Lords nodding in agreement.

While they still didn’t fully grasp the situation’s truth, the fear they held for Airael began to dissipate.

“So, in the next phase, Mason and I will focus on countering any magic you can’t resist; the rest will be up to you. Please wield your swords and fight for the future of our Elven Race!”

With that, Smir flashed them a smile.

A look that seemed to say the future of the Elven Race was now in their hands.

Even though some sensed something was off about his speech, it still made their hearts flutter.

“We won’t let you and Mason down!” Tugur declared boldly.

The thoughts of the other Elven Lords were similar, without the need for words.

They once more felt the courage to face Airael.

Watching the grand pep talk from the sidelines, Airael worked hard to stifle her laughter.

At a glance, these Elven Lords were rather adorable.

Only, they weren’t quite on the same page right now.

Next, she was going to turn them into her own allies.

As for Mason’s plan to counter her magic, Airael wasn’t overly concerned.

Though you think you’ve figured out how to handle my magic, do you not realize something?

I’m not just a Mage!

At that moment, the warrior spirit within Airael burned fiercely.
