A tin can repairman was a profession that involved patching up holes in pots, pans, and bowls.
In the modern world, where broken items are often discarded and replaced, this profession had nearly disappeared.
Teamfight Arena saw the tin can repairman treated much the same way. If allies picked it, they’d get angry; if enemies picked it, they’d be thankful for the easy win. It was considered a troll pick.
Using a cannon tower as their main weapon, tin can repairmen had little flexibility and could only fight effectively on a prepared battlefield. They had to farm throughout the early and mid-game but couldn’t just sit on and guard a single cannon tower. Even when the battlefield was prepared, were they truly strong? Maybe against beginners, but against a team with a little strategy, they naturally struggled. There were characters who could destroy the cannon towers from outside of their range or simply overwhelm them with firepower, dismantling the towers with ease.
However, that only applied to normal progression in a standard 5v5 team game.
[And Wild was supposed to be his friend, right?]
[??? : Even lions give their all when catching a rabbit]
[What a terrible troll pick! How far can Wild fall?]
[A monster created by too much farming…]
[Is this newbie for real?]
[Well, the opponent isn’t a regular newbie either]
[Haha, what a joke]
Things were a little different in 1v1, particularly in Arena Bread. Remember, a tin can repairman needs a prepared battlefield to shine, right? Arena Bread has a five-minute prohibition on combat action. If the opponent disengages from the battlefield where the tin can repairman has set up, it’s over. However, in Arena Bread, running outside the arena constitutes a loss, and relinquishing the占领 point means conceding anyway due to constant Gold and Experience Point generation.
And so, naturally it was… an absolutely terrible troll pick!
Wild’s cruel treatment of the newbie sent viewers into uncontrollable laughter. Why? Watching a newbie get harassed is always entertaining.
Dismantling a cannon tower from outside of its range? Irrelevant for an illusionist, a relatively short-ranged magical champion. Starting by melting the cannon tower with firepower? In a 5v5, maybe, but in a 1v1, it’s an absurd strategy.
Taking advantage of micro-control to dodge the cannon tower’s attacks? Unfortunately, the cannon tower’s attacks are auto-targeted basic attacks judged as normal hits.
[Tip) In Arena Bread, it’s customary to agree on the characters beforehand]
[Legendary trolling ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
[It just shows how much you want to win~]
[Thought there was a chance, but here it happens again]
[New to this, what’s going on?]
Viewers were already calling Sol’s defeat as if it were a foregone conclusion. However, Sol did not confront Wild or get angry at the audience. Instead, they took action.
That action was…
[Does this kid even know what kind of character a tin can repairman is?]
[Trolls only use what they don’t know, hehe]
<ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ>
[WILD WINS! WILD WINS! WILD WINS!]
[Now he’ll learn, Seol Ah]
[It’s like watching myself cram the night before an exam]
Sol searched for tin can repairman on Nertube to see its skills. Sol genuinely had no idea what skills this character possessed.
Cruelly, both players were loading quickly. With Wild being a pro and Sol possessing a high-end computer, even the loading time for Teamfight Arena, despite its lower specifications as a national game, was instantaneous. There was no time for watching Nertube, or so it seemed.
[Is this an open-book test?]
[Instead of map reading, we’re textbook reading ㄷㄷ]
[Time is money – use it wisely!]
Sol, who normally neglected to even look at his character while hunting neutral monsters with allies’ vision, was now alt-tabbing to watch Nertube while farming.
[Seeing it won’t make a difference]
[Accept your defeat, kid]
[Wild’s a real pain]
[The gamer’s competitive nature]
[They’re enemies 2nd attempt]
“…”
Without any response to the viewers’ ridicule, Sol was calculating in secret. Most viewers thought the mental pressure had broken them, but…
‘At this point, it’s doable.’
Silently, Sol had completed their calculations. There was no need to verbally announce it, as Wild didn’t need to know they weren’t giving up.
Soon the clock hit five minutes, and having hunted the agreed-upon three camps, Sol reached level 3. Equipped with the gold accumulated so far, they headed to the real arena.
[Electric Shock Device]
[Ability Power: 40]
[Deals an additional 60 magic damage to champions when they take damage from you. (Cool Down Time: 40 seconds)]
Confused viewers questioned Sol’s item choice.
[Arena bread’s unwritten rule is stacking beginner’s items]
[You don’t know this because you’re new. Beginner’s set has no future, but it’s incredibly strong early on]
[Lost the feel for it from always buying shoes first ㅋㅋ]
[The teacher is wrong – Kiting with a tin can repairman doesn’t work]
The beginner’s sword, shield, and magic tome – the so-called three beginner’s items – were cheap, but boasted disproportionately high ability scores. Though they couldn’t be upgraded into anything, this didn’t matter in the short arena game, where there was no “future.” Starting with the beginner’s gold and leveling early camps to secure two of these items was considered the best strategy.
However, Sol had selected an item with significantly lower stats, naturally leading the audience to believe Sol had no idea what they were doing.
[An electric shock device is only good for group plays where you deal massive damage in bursts during 1v1, it’s utterly useless]
[Why do so many unrealistic expectations surround a newbie who hasn’t even reached max level?]
[Honestly, with tin can repairman already mentally defeated? The cannon tower attack is judged as a normal hit, impossible to dodge]
[Honestly, this is Wild being a jerk. Legend isn’t bad]
The two champions finally arrived at the arena. Wild had, as expected, placed three cannons atop the arena points. In defiance, Wild waited in the midst of them, employing the so-called “come and get me” strategy. Generally, only riflemen or characters with skills longer than the cannon tower’s range could displace a tin can repairman, making Wild’s choice of the Illusionist a guaranteed loss in the minds of many.
[5:00]
[Arena point capture event has begun!]
[Points on the arena give experience and gold every second.]
Time had reached five minutes.
It was vivid in people’s eyes.
An Illusionist who could do nothing against the cannon towers, aimlessly running around outside the point, eventually dying to a level 4 tin can repairman. Or perhaps an Illusionist who tried to destroy the towers and, taking too much damage, died from attrition.
Neither occurred.
At exactly five minutes, Seol’s Illusionist flashed into the point and pressed W – creating an illusion at the designated spot. Pressed E – swapping positions with the illusion while dealing area of effect damage at its previous location. Ignited the Ignition spell – applying continuous damage over five seconds. Fired Q – a magic arrow along a straight line that the illusion could also fire. Any opponent hit by two or more arrows became stunned for one second.
Though lengthy written out, less than a second had passed since using Flash to when Q was fired. It had happened faster than the blink of an eye.
And the outcome?
─”Enemy eliminated.”
─”I have been defeated.”
Two messages quickly followed one another. Though the tin can repairman died immediately after killing the Illusionist with a final cannon tower attack, Seol had won by the slimmest of margins.
[WHA-?!]
<F*!>
???????????>
[What’s happening?!]
[Did we win?]
The result was as clear as day.
Sol had won.
Such an unexpected outcome left the crowd momentarily stunned before they could fully process the event unfolding before them.
[Is Legend a god, or what??!!]
[Newbie killer Legend ㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷ (Newbie but still a killer)]
[Are you serious, is this even possible?]
[How the heck did they calculate the damage?]
[Said he didn’t know what a tin can repairman was??? Tin can repairman??? Tin can repairman????]
[It was all show – pretend he didn’t know!]
[With a single misstep or mishandled action, would have been dead instantly, right?]
[Would’ve lost if he didn’t go with beginner items instead of the Electric Shock Device]
[What sorcery is this?? How does anyone calculate this??? Is this some kind of computer brain???]
[Even someone who memorized spell damage coefficients and resisted magic couldn’t have calculated that, surely?]
[What in the world… how?]
[Who cares, let’s have a drink!]
[??? : Legend is the only person I know who plays better than me.]
[Wild, how did you manage to defeat a tin can repairman?]
[Haha, incredible trolling!!!]
[Nickname is very fitting, eh Legend?]
[Legend really is legendary]
Praises erupted eventually as Legend’s unexpected win was confirmed.
It was indeed Legend’s triumph.
