Chapter 32: Clever Celia, Kind Lies
As Airael returned to her work, Celia had already taken Shadow and Hank out of Avalon Royal Palace.
“Miss Celia, you can stop here.”
Once they exited the palace, Shadow spoke up.
“Alright, I wish you both safe travels ahead.”
Celia paused, turning to look at the two.
“Thank you.”
With that, Shadow and Hank continued on their way.
However, Shadow suddenly stopped as he approached Celia.
Celia looked at Shadow, surprised.
“Miss Celia, please help me deliver this to Your Majesty.”
Shadow finished speaking and handed a letter to Celia.
“What’s inside? And why didn’t you just give it directly to Your Majesty earlier?”
Celia frowned, refusing to take it.
“It wasn’t convenient earlier. Inside is a token from Axi to help identify himself with Your Majesty, considering I don’t have much connection with her. Besides, there’s also a letter he wrote to her.”
Celia pondered for a moment.
She figured that even if Your Majesty wanted to accept it, she wouldn’t want to appear too eager.
“I understand. I will help in delivering it to Your Majesty.”
Celia flashed a knowing smile.
“Thank you.”
After another round of thanks, Shadow and Hank resumed their steps, this time without stopping.
Celia waved them off, then her gaze shifted to the letter in her hand, curiosity shining through.
What kind of token could it be? And what could Axi have written? Was it a lament of unrequited love?
Celia’s imagination began to run wild.
After daydreaming for a bit, she turned back toward the palace.
Inside Airael’s office.
Airael was busy at her desk when the returning Celia announced, “Your Majesty, they have left.”
“Mm!”
Airael nodded slightly, her focus still on the documents before her.
Watching the busy Airael, Celia thought for a moment before continuing, “Um, before they left, Mr. Shadow handed me something to pass to you.”
Celia didn’t mention that it was related to Axi.
Even in private, she wasn’t sure if Your Majesty might refuse it out of pride.
So, this was a kind lie.
Once Your Majesty opened it, the deed would be done.
If Your Majesty blamed her, she could easily pin it on Shadow.
After all, Shadow was already gone.
Pleased with her cleverness, Celia mentally gave herself a pat on the back.
I’m so smart for coming up with this plan!
“What is it? Why didn’t he give it to me directly, making you deliver it instead?”
Airael paused in her reading, her pretty brows furrowing.
“It’s an envelope, and I’m not quite sure about the reason.”
Celia began to spin a tale.
With that, she took out the envelope.
Airael raised her head, looking at the envelope in Celia’s hand, thinking for a moment before saying:
“Just place it here; I’ll take a look when I have time.”
“Certainly.”
Celia complied, placing the envelope on Airael’s desk, then turned into an invisible observer.
Airael continued her work.
Having already lost some time, she got caught up and worked straight through to noon.
As Airael stood to head for lunch, her eyes fell on the envelope she had forgotten in the corner.
After a moment of thought, Airael picked it up and stored it in her spatial ring.
With no time in the morning, she decided to make time in the afternoon to see what it contained.
After lunch, Airael returned to her bedroom with Anna, ready to take a nap.
Anna was very quiet during lunch, quickly falling asleep in her little bed after eating her fill.
Once Airael confirmed Anna was sound asleep, she slumped onto her large bed without a care.
Even though Airael had only worked in the morning, it was a morning filled with tasks for the entire Elven Race, plus looking after Anna, so her life wasn’t exactly easy.
Let’s just say this again:
Despite the fatigue, Airael found joy in it.
After sitting on the bed for a while, contemplating her upcoming nap, Airael remembered the envelope she had tucked away.
Since it was her free time now, she thought she would take a peek at what mystery lay within.
The next moment, the envelope appeared in her hands.
Airael opened it to find several pieces of paper filled with writing.
A letter?
Curiosity piqued, Airael pulled out the paper.
The first sheet was all too familiar; it was the message she had once left for Arthur.
Set that aside, Airael read the contents on the second sheet and her expression fell.
Airael quickly redirected her gaze, trying to look away.
That Arthur had really grown bolder, writing her love letters and being rather explicit about it.
What kind of nonsense is this—missing you… your… your…
What a jumbled mess!
After her emotions settled, Airael couldn’t help but glance back at the letter.
Admittedly, it did stir some feelings in her.
But what good is that?
After reading through the entire letter, Airael surprisingly felt a sense of calm.
No matter how much one misses another, what does it matter?
They both have their own things to deal with, and it’s impossible for them to be together right now. Maybe it will happen in the future.
So, it’s best to just keep working hard.
Just like how I told Shadow to give you this message: perhaps in the future, you might be able to take me away.
Speaking of Shadow, he didn’t return to the mainland immediately to report to Arthur as he claimed.
He sent Hank back first, while he lingered in the Elven Race for a few more days.
After all, Shadow had more than one purpose for coming to the Elven Race.
The first objective had already been achieved, and now it was time for him to pursue the second one.
The second goal had already made some progress previously.
Thus, Shadow only stayed a few extra days to preliminarily complete the second objective.
What followed was just a matter of investing time in it.
Airael, however, was completely unaware of this and was not concerned.
In her view, besides the Elven Lords, there wasn’t much in Avalon that warranted her attention.
And for the time being, she couldn’t deal with those Elven Lords either.
So, Airael’s focus recently has been across the sea to the mainland.
It’s important to note that Sally and her team’s mission was crucial for Airael’s plans and for the Elven Race as a whole.
