Chapter 22: Daily Life with My Daughter
As Hank’s words fell, the room was enveloped in silence.
The Shadow no longer spoke to Hank.
There was nothing left to say between them.
They were not from the same world.
After a while of silence, Hank couldn’t help but speak up, “My lord, if you have no further instructions, I’ll be taking my leave.”
“Go ahead.”
Glancing at Hank, the Shadow replied briefly.
Hank immediately stood up to leave.
Once he was gone, the Shadow began to ponder again.
Of course, this time he wasn’t thinking about the Elven envoy but rather how to carry out his mission within the Elven Race.
This was quite a challenge for him.
Not to mention, the Shadow was still trying to figure out how to find the missing Airael while various forces were casting their eyes upon them due to the Elves’ actions. Meanwhile, Airael was acting as if nothing had happened, handling state affairs in the morning and playing with Anna in the afternoon.
Regarding the Elven envoy, Airael stated that people could think whatever they wanted, just as long as they didn’t provoke her.
Although this was her plan, the envoy itself was really just a simple affair. At most, when they returned, the envoys would bring back some things, and the subsequent trade activities between both sides would become more frequent.
As for the Shadow’s situation, Airael was completely unaware.
She had no idea that Arthur was painstakingly trying to find her, wanting her back by his side.
If Airael knew, she would probably just chuckle wryly.
It’s not to say it’s impossible, but it’s definitely very, very difficult.
She had her own responsibilities to attend to and couldn’t let her personal feelings interfere with her duties.
Arthur also needed to walk his own path, so it was destined that they would have little intersection until their tasks were complete.
In the afternoon, looking at Anna smiling happily in front of her, Airael found herself thinking about Arthur still on the continent for some reason.
Although she had someone intensify the intelligence collection on Arthur, the feedback always required time.
The magic communication technology hadn’t been widely utilized yet.
Thus, even when that information arrived, it would still need to be delivered via traditional methods, which would take additional time.
She couldn’t help but wonder how he was doing and whether his journey was smooth.
With a sigh, Airael thought about it all.
She had no idea if Arthur’s upcoming journey would be smooth.
Her own path, however, was anything but.
Those Elven Lords were like a cluster of thorns in her heart.
Though they hadn’t committed significant errors, they had made one crucial mistake: they blocked Airael’s way.
Different paths, no collaboration.
Not to mention that these fellows were the obstacles on Airael’s chosen road.
Due to their existence, Airael was unable to fully concentrate the power of the Elven Race to achieve what she wanted.
Although she had gathered some strength through various means, she still sought more.
What she needed to do next required her to have complete control over the Elven Race.
In other words, if they continued on this path, they would eventually find themselves opposing Airael and becoming her enemies.
Combining her thoughts and reflecting on Arthur, Airael realized she was still a bit better off than him.
Linis and Domiya could openly support her, helping her become the queen of the Elven Race and take command directly.
As for Arthur—
Even though he had the support of the Tower of the Archmage, Airael had never seen that support out in the open.
She hadn’t detected the behind-the-scenes movements, so she didn’t know.
However, behind-the-scenes actions are always limited in impact.
If the Tower of the Archmage wanted to support Arthur, they should be more prominent about it.
For instance, after she left, they could dispatch a heroic-tier mage as Arthur’s assistant.
That way, it wouldn’t draw too much attention while boosting Arthur’s influence; it would be seen as an investment.
Recalling this, Airael suddenly remembered her previous cooperation with the Tower of the Archmage regarding Arthur.
But that cooperation had been behind the scenes and couldn’t be made public, and she had since unilaterally terminated it.
Unbeknownst to Airael, Arthur already had mages from the Tower of the Archmage by his side.
However, they were following him under the guise of a military mage group and were considered Arthur’s subordinates.
The Tower of the Archmage’s cautious support was beyond their control.
Even though Arthur was seen as the Chosen One with the proud bloodline of Alexander the Great of Machia, the kingdom was no longer what it once was.
People admired the great feats of Alexander the Great, but admiration doesn’t equate to a willingness to reinstate the royal family.
After all, it was they who had exiled the royal family back then.
Thus, Arthur had to start from scratch, slowly making a name for himself.
Until his influence rose to a level that would allow people to once again recognize the greatness of Alexander’s bloodline.
Only then could the Tower of the Archmage maneuver their next steps.
While Airael was lost in thought, Anna, in her arms, noticed that mom was suddenly ignoring her and began to cry out.
“Wah wah wah…”
The sound was enough to bring tears to the listener and sadness to the onlooker.
Snapping back to reality, Airael saw Anna starting to fuss and assumed the little one might be hungry, so she began to feed her.
Even though she had just fed her not long ago, it’s understandable for a growing child to have a quicker digestive pace during certain times.
Especially in a magical world, science didn’t apply purely here.
The food brought to her mouth, though Anna wasn’t particularly hungry yet, she happily took it and nibbled now and then.
Naturally, her crying ceased, and her big blue eyes locked onto Airael’s, refocusing her attention on her.
In that moment, Airael understood something.
Her daughter wasn’t hungry; she was upset that Airael hadn’t continued playing with her earlier.
Airael reached out and pinched Anna’s soft cheek, saying, “Little one, with such thoughts at such a young age, just wait until you grow up!”
Though the words sounded somewhat scolding, the look of fondness on her face was unmistakable.
Anna naturally couldn’t understand Airael’s words, but when she saw Airael smile at her, she loosened her mouth and returned a grin.
She reached her little hand up as if wanting to pinch Airael’s cheek too.
Airael fixed her clothes and gently placed Anna’s little hand back down.
She had to maintain her dignity.
Just as she did, Anna stretched her little hand out again.
After a few rounds of this, Airael, defeated by Anna’s persistence, finally allowed her to touch her equally tender face.
Though a mother now, she still looked like a blossoming young woman.
