Chapter 267

Chapter 267. The Siege of Avalon (3).

Anyway, after dealing with all sorts of random stuff, I somehow managed to reach the vicinity of the Avalon Fortress. To get a detailed grasp of the fortress, I immediately opened the status window and checked the info panel for Avalon Fortress.

—————————————-

<Avalon Fortress - Space Station>

<Lv. 5>

<Type: Space Fortress>

<Defense Power Status>

˪<Guard Fleet x25>

˪<Fortress Combat Fleet x50>

<Fleet Composition Table>

<Guard Fleet Composition>

˪<Battleship 1, Light Cruiser 45, Destroyer 250, Escort Ship 1,300>

<Fortress Combat Fleet Composition>

˪<Battleship 10, Heavy Cruiser 50, Destroyer 500>

<Fortress Comprehensive Defense System Status: Normal>

<Tip: Cities and fortresses are generally non-aggressive. If attacked directly, fleets will sortie.>

<Warning!>

˪<If you approach the fortress beyond a certain distance, the Guard Fleet and Fortress Combat Fleet will immediately sortie!>

—————————————-

‘Hmm, tricky.’

As always, the info panel ended its explanation at a vaguely ambiguous level. But through it, I could figure out what needed to be done to siege that damn fortress city.

“There’s only one thing we need to do: we absolutely have to stop that damn Fortress Combat Fleet from coming out.”

“How are you going to stop it?”

And the method was…

“I won’t explain any further.”

“Seriously?”

For some reason, I felt like continuing would make me sound like some over-explaining nerd. So instead of giving Jessica more details, I decided to roll with the plan I had cooked up in my brain CPU to attack the fortress.

Of course, if I just dropped a hint and didn’t explain further before diving into the operation, Jessica might spend the entire battle whining and questioning me. So, I gave her one clear response.

“Just kidding. Nerañzara is going to be the real key point in this operation.”

“Heh.”

And with that, I figured the explanation was sufficient. Now, it was time to seriously start sieging the <Avalon Fortress>.

==========

At the same time.

In the gallery, which Icarus had been too busy to check, there were a lot of users watching Icarus’ city siege with great interest.

And it’s not some weak Level 1 or 2 outpost, but a Level 5 city-level fortress. Absolute madlad move ㄱㅆㅅㅌㅊ.

Comments:

-[Is that for real?]

-˪[Seeing others confirm it, it’s real.] (Author)

Title: Breaking) 3rd place fleet is about to start the invasion for real.

Author: Relay-Guy

Content: [Video of Icarus’ fleet approaching the city and forming battle lines]

Damn, this is gonna be popcorn-worthy.

I’m really looking forward to how they’re gonna fight.

Comments:

-[With all those mercenaries, they’ve got a ton of battleships and cruiser battleships. Maybe they’ll go for a long-range sniping battle?]

-[Shouldn’t they start by teleporting Kraken and launching strategic missiles first?]

-˪[The city’s armor durability is insanely high, way tougher than our base.]

-[Maybe they’ll start with aircraft skirmishes, then systematically take out each fleet one by one?]

-˪[But what about the aircraft from the fortress hangars and the combat fleets that come out when the guard fleet gets wiped?]

-˪[No idea? That’s Icarus’ problem now lol.]

-˪[Hmm, can’t argue with that.]

—————————————–

And it wasn’t just watching—since each user was a player commander who had to manage their own fleets, the gallery was filled with users analyzing how Icarus was planning to solo the city. And those actions would soon…

Title: Oh, the first move is missile spam

Author: ㅇㅇ

Content: [GIF of a massive barrage of missiles fired from a fleet of 50,000 ships led by Hreðsvelgr]

Cool

Comments:

– [Kya, my guess was right, congrats]

– [Eheh, you missed this one]

Including 12 strategic missiles fired from the platform of the Hreðsvelgr-Class Arsenal Ship.

Hundreds of thousands of missiles fired simultaneously from all ships except aircraft carriers, trailing long white tails, completely “annihilated” one of the fortress’s guard fleets stationed outside, and then collided chaotically with the fortress’s outer armor.

– Kwaaaaang! Kwaaang!

– Peeeeeeng! Kwaaang!

– Boooooooong!

As the fortress’s external defense systems began to explode one after another under the sudden long-range surprise attack, some users, who were almost live-streaming the situation in galleries and chat rooms, quickly boasted about their foresight(?).

But that was short-lived.

Unlike the guard fleet whose ships were literally “annihilated,” the rest of the ships were stationed in the base’s hangars.

Title: The guard fleets coming out feel like poking a beehive

Author: ㅇㅇ

Content: [As the fortress turns into a sea of fire from missile and torpedo bombardments, a massive number of guard fleet ships start pouring out from hidden hangars]

Wow

How many is that, damn

Comments:

– [Considering the power of a Level 5 fortress’s guard fleet, just the ships that just popped out include at least 24 battleships, lol]

– [Don’t forget the rest, there are over 1,000 light cruisers and more than 6,000 destroyers]

– [What about escort ships?] (Author)

– [One guard fleet alone has about 1,300 escort ships, so probably over 30,000?]

– [Oh damn]

– [Yo, interceptors are coming out of the hangars too]

– [Creepy, so creepy]

– [That’s the Earth Federation style base, if it were a Monster-style base, it’d be straight-up disgusting]

– [Flying cockroaches?]

– [Yeah]

As the gallery reactions show, it’s like poking a “beehive.”

Not only do the remaining 24 guard fleets swarm out, but hundreds of thousands of interceptors also emerge from the remaining hangars and catapults, except for the ones destroyed by the surprise missile bombardment.

Users could clearly see with their own eyes just how terrifying the scale of city defense power is.

And newbie users, shocked by the overwhelming scale, wondered if Icarus’s fleet would just get wiped out.

But…

Title: The funniest thing about this battle.txt

Author: ㅇㅇ

Content: [GIF of Icarus’s fleet engaging in an artillery battle with the swarming guard fleets]

Newbies are freaking out over the number of guard fleets coming out, but the numbers are inflated because of all the interceptors.

In reality, it’s fewer than the number of mercenary fleets Icarus brought, lol

Comments:

– [Oh, true]

– [You’ve got it all figured out, huh?]

– [Winning a numbers game against a city, what even is this lol]

– [LMAO]

As another gallery explanation post shows, the fleet size is still in Icarus’s favor, which is a bizarre reality. So, most experienced users aren’t too worried.
