Chapter 183
Chapter 183 Resistance Army
Upon seeing the two of them approaching, the group of young people immediately displayed expressions akin to facing their worst nightmare, much like students caught playing on their phones by the head teacher.
“What… what do you want to do?”
Ling Mo looked over at Xia Xinyan.
He wasn’t quite sure what she was planning.
Xia Xinyan was quite direct, clearly not intending to waste time talking nonsense with them. She turned straight to the man who spoke and revealed her tail.
Mental Enchantment—
“What are you planning to do?”
The man had absolutely no resistance to her ability, his face momentarily showing confusion before turning slightly crimson: “We… want to blow up the Control Hub.”
The other companions, seeing him sell out their teammate so easily, became nervous right away. “What are you talking about! When did we ever want to blow up the Control Hub! We were just looking around! Just looking around!”
Ling Mo: “…”
I have to say, these people are really bad at acting.
Or maybe they’re doing it on purpose?
Xia Xinyan tucked away her tail, ending the Mental Enchantment. The poor kid momentarily looked dazed again, then suddenly remembered what he had just said, turning pale: “I… I was just joking! Really! It was all a trick!”
Xia Xinyan raised an eyebrow.
She could tell these guys were just ordinary people. Even if they were liars, they would obediently tell the truth under her Mental Enchantment. She was confident in her ability.
But… they want to blow up the Control Hub?
And just like that, I got it out of them?
It felt like someone brought a pillow right when she dozed off; it was too smooth and made her feel a bit odd.
Thinking for a moment, she pulled Ling Mo down to sit at their table. “What you just said, I recorded it. Just think about what would happen if I handed this recording to the police…”
“Please don’t!” the group of young people quickly begged, “Don’t do this, we’re doing this for the city! We want to save the city! We absolutely do not want to harm this city! Please don’t tell the police!”
Ling Mo frowned slightly: “Save the city?”
“Yes,” sensing that this situation was getting out of hand, the group of young people exchanged glances and made a decision, looking at the two of them seriously. “This city is sick.”
Xia Xinyan rested her chin on her hand, waiting for their next performance.
Ling Mo also appeared as if he was saying, “Go ahead, I’m listening.”
This made the group of young people feel even more anxious. After hesitating for a few seconds, they continued: “Do you guys know about the spire in the center of the city? That building… isn’t maintaining the normal operation of the city at all! It controls the whole city; each of us… must obey the orders of that building for our entire lives. It’s completely unreasonable. We should have the right to decide our own lives, rather than letting the spire dictate what we become!”
Upon hearing this, Ling Mo showed some interest. “What do you mean?”
Seeing that the two of them seemed interested, the group of young people exchanged sneaky glances, confirming no one was paying attention to their corner before continuing, “That spire… we usually call it the Control Hub. It controls every person in this city. In this city, it’s like a god, deciding every person’s life—from where we are born, to what school we attend, to where we work, even to whom we marry, and where we are buried after death. The Control Hub has already mapped everything out for us!”
“Think about it, hasn’t your life been extremely smooth sailing? Have you gone through any struggles to get to where you are? Because all of this is controlled by the Control Hub!”
Ling Mo couldn’t help but chuckle at their serious expressions. “Well, even if what you say is true, isn’t it a good thing to have a smooth life? Don’t you want your life to be all ups and downs?”
“It’s not the same!” One man exclaimed excitedly, “What I mean is! The Control Hub decides the course of our lives from the moment we are born! Some people might be destined to be the lowest class, with no chance to turn their lives around, while others are born as one of the top people in the city, even without much effort—does that make sense? Is this how our lives should be?”
“Even if we might live in poverty our whole lives, we should at least have the hope to strive! We want our lives in our own hands, not rely on that Control Hub we have no clue about to determine what we are!”
Xia Xinyan lightly tapped her fingers on the table, her expression unchanged. “So how do you know all this?”
“Because someone in our organization has been into that Control Hub. He saw with his own eyes how our lives were decided, and the future he told us is exactly the same as what we are experiencing now!” a girl said earnestly. “At first, we didn’t believe what he said, but now we do. We want to resist; only by destroying that place can this city return to normal.”
“Organization?” Xia Xinyan seized the key word.
The girl nodded. “Yes! We are a large organization, and we are currently planning to completely destroy that Control Hub, so—join us! You wouldn’t want to be controlled for life, right? For yourselves, join our Resistance Army!”
Xia Xinyan continued to catch on to the key word. “Complete destruction? How do you plan to destroy it?”
“Our organization already has many groups operating separately. Each group is responsible for a plan, and when the time comes, they will cooperate to destroy the Control Hub in one fell swoop,” explained another man.
Xia Xinyan then took Ling Mo’s hand. “We’ll join.”
“Really? That’s great! I knew you wouldn’t want to be slaves to the Control Hub!” The crowd immediately became excited.
Ling Mo paused, though he didn’t quite understand Xia Xinyan’s purpose, he wouldn’t say anything. As long as she decided to do something, he would accompany her.
His task was just to help her avoid any troubles as much as possible: “Does joining this organization involve any kind of loyalty ritual?”
“No need, no need,” the young people waved their hands, smiling happily. “That kind of thing might leave a handle; as long as you have the heart of a Resistance Army member, that’s enough for us!”
Ling Mo: “…”
This is too childish.
Xia Xinyan, however, did not seem to mind: “So what’s your task now?”
Upon hearing this, the man became quite excited: “Our group’s task is to blow up the outer walls of the Control Hub, then rush in to blow up the inner walls, and finally sneak in to blow a path to the core, which will be handed over to the assault team to destroy all the data—and we’re all ready! We just lack one thing to take action.”
“What thing?”
“A bomb.”
“……”
