Chapter 145

Chapter 145. Kekeke, that guy is the weakest among our rankers. (1)

About a week later.

<<Additional Docking Facility Construction Complete>>

<Base Fleet Points 470 ⇒ 550>

‘Gimoring.’

Right after confirming that the fleet points had finally surpassed 500.

I opened the menu of the <Large Ship Dedicated Shipyard>, which I had built but never used, now just collecting dust.

<Large Ship Dedicated Shipyard Construction List>

–<Dock 1>

<None>

<Currently Buildable Ship Classes: Cruiser Battleship, Light Aircraft Carrier>

‘Hmm.’

But when I actually saw the ‘buildable ship classes’ with my own eyes.

Even though I had flashy and sleek ships like the ‘Assault Battle Carrier’.

The large shipyard couldn’t build ‘Aircraft Carriers’, which I had known since three years ago… no, four years ago now.

Still, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of regret.

‘Why can’t I build that awesome large aircraft carrier even though I have it?!’

Of course, the game had been like this from the start.

And even in reality, just because you ‘own’ a ship doesn’t mean you can ‘build’ it, so that’s a different story.

I felt a surge of irritation at the unnecessary realism in such a trivial matter.

Separately, I really wanted to tighten my belt, save up as many resources as possible, and then upgrade the base to level 7 to start producing battleships or carriers.

But as I had checked in the gallery a week ago, users were now starting to roll out ‘large ships’ like they were buying personal cars.

In this situation, except for the Overseer, who had become calm after the removal of modifications was nearing completion, and the Kraken.

If I were to face off against users who had entered the large ship construction race with the Kanhel-class ‘Light Cruiser’ and Azkran-class ‘Destroyer’ bought from the event store.

If the Kraken were to get seriously damaged and require long-term repairs.

Even if the Overseer could match a ‘Battleship’ in firepower in its original state.

Essentially, it was still just a ‘Heavy Cruiser’, and it would be really difficult to go up against ships of a higher class.

Like it or not, for our fleet to survive, we needed to produce at least one Cruiser Battleship at this point.

“Commander, you don’t need to make such a lengthy excuse.”

“Be quiet, Jessica.”

Anyway, after organizing my thoughts, I decided to start the construction of the long-awaited first Cruiser Battleship, which would become the backbone of our fleet.

<Large Ship Dedicated Shipyard Construction List>

–<Dock 1>

<Cruiser Battleship under construction...>

<Remaining Time: 4 days 12 hours 4 minutes 8 seconds>

<Resources Consumed: 15,500 Minerals, 3,700 Rare Resources>

‘It’s taking a ridiculously long time.’

Watching the massive cranes of the shipyard move outside the command center.

As the numerous unmanned drones inside the shipyard began to move, starting to lay the keel of the first Cruiser Battleship.

I thought about how, in reality, it would have taken months to build such a massive ship, but here it would be completed in just 5 days.

I couldn’t help but feel that, as expected of an SF world, the production capabilities were truly amazing.

==========

After ordering the construction of the first Cruiser Battleship.

I was wondering what to do next, so I was assessing the situation inside the base.

Of course, I wasn’t going around checking everything myself.

“Jessica, what’s the current status of the fleet?”

“As you mentioned, most of the older general ships are in the process of being scrapped.”

Sitting quietly in the command seat, I listened to Jessica’s calm briefing using holograms.

“And the Overseer has dismantled and returned most of the equipment that was haphazardly installed, and Gryanarr is currently retrieving the biological components installed in the bridge and radar.”

“Hmm.”

“Oh, and most of the resources obtained from ship scrapping are being reinvested into reproducing the Kraken’s aircraft, which were all destroyed last time.”

“…How much is being spent?”

“About 10 minerals and 1 rare resource per aircraft… Considering about 2,000 were destroyed, at least 20,000 minerals and 2,000 rare resources?”

“Ugh.”

In the midst of all this, a heartbreaking story came out, and I couldn’t help but let out a sigh.

Whether I liked it or not, leveling up the Kraken was something I’d have to keep dealing with in the future.

I shook my head, thinking there was no other choice, and decided to accept that sad reality.

“Alright, let’s see… What’s our daily resource intake right now?”

“From the base itself, we produce 3,000 minerals and 150 rare resources. From resource mining and forced labor camps, we get about 12,000 minerals and 2,000 rare resources.”

But no matter what, the ‘resource intake’ was struggling, and it was hard to just sit back and watch.

“Sigh, maybe I should just join any clan at this point.”

“It does seem a bit like that, doesn’t it?”

Given the nature of this game, which oddly mixes management elements, if you try to go solo, you’ll run into problems with ‘resource intake’ like this.

Of course, right now, I’ve been steadily developing, producing ships, and gathering resources over the years, so I have enough leeway to build a Cruiser Battleship if I wanted to.

But if I were to engage in a battle and my ships got wrecked, and I had to rebuild them?

That’s when solo players like me would truly experience the nightmare of resource management.

Personally, I’ve had some terrible experiences with ‘clans’ in the past, so I’ve been rejecting all clan invitations until now…

But as I listened to Jessica and casually searched for resource-related tips in the gallery, I came across a post that made it clear.

Title: There’s a lot of talk about clans lately, but joining one is still a good idea.

Content: [Clan Explanation]

Joining a clan isn’t about forcing you to do anything. It’s because when you play the game, you’ll eventually get into battles with others.

At first, you might not feel it, but later on, you’ll be shocked by the resources consumed in just one fight.

Even just repairing large ships can cost as much as building a Patrol Ship.

And if they get moderately damaged, the repair costs can be as much as building a Light Cruiser.

If they get heavily damaged, you might as well just build a new one.

But by now, you all know that the cost of building large ships is no joke, right?

Even if you combine the resources you mine personally with what your base produces, you’re looking at around 15,000 to 20,000 minerals.

But even the cheapest Cruiser Battleship costs at least 15,000 minerals to build.

And can you really use 100% of the resources you mine?

What about fleet maintenance costs?

Repair costs?

Even if you’re lucky, it’ll take at least 2 days to gather enough resources to build one Cruiser Battleship.

And if you get into a large-scale battle and all your large ships get destroyed?

No matter how much you’ve stockpiled, there’s a limit to what one person can gather.

If the enemy pushes in and you have to fight one more time, you’ll run out of resources.

Even if you’re lucky enough to fight one more time, at that point, you’re not fighting the enemy.

You’ll have to beg the enemy to surrender because you’ll be dealing with other players waiting to pounce on you like hyenas.

If you don’t, most of your fleet will be stuck in the base, relying on auto-recovery (which takes forever), and you’ll have to sit back and watch as other players plunder your resource zones and loot your base for months.

But clans are different.

Because clan members get a resource production buff, and if the clan leadership captures resource zones, you can get additional resources from that.

Plus, if you’re in danger, the clan can support you with resources.

The resource production buff might seem small, but having it or not can make a difference of tens of thousands in daily resource production.
