Chapter 54: Pregnancy
“But this isn’t the solution. We can’t keep our focus on those vampires forever.”
Airael shook her head.
Neither Arthur nor Cain had any objections to this point.
It was a hard fact.
Their primary mission here was still to guard against the possible advancing Dwarves; dealing with these vampires wasn’t their direct responsibility.
“Should we conduct a city-wide search?”
After a moment, Cain suggested.
Arthur hesitated a bit.
A city-wide search wasn’t off the table, but if it turned out fruitless, they’d surely face criticism.
Moreover, it required cooperation from the townsfolk, and if they didn’t comply, there would likely be bloody incidents.
You see, a city-wide search isn’t just casual patrolling; it’s going door-to-door!
After careful consideration, Arthur replied, “Let’s skip the city-wide search. Those vampires might not even be hiding in the town anymore. They could have already fled.”
“If they’ve escaped, there’s nothing we can do about it.”
Cain sighed.
The world is vast; if those vampires have slipped away, finding them again won’t be easy.
Wasting effort on something that yields no reward could also affect their main tasks.
After considering for a while, Airael offered her suggestion: “How about this? Let’s keep this up for two more days. If we still haven’t found any trace of those vampires by then, we’ll call it a day for now.”
She had come to terms with it.
Since the power of demons had already begun to spread in this world, it was virtually impossible for them to stop it with their current strength.
Those few vampires didn’t make much difference.
With that in mind, they might as well focus on what they could handle now, advancing steadily.
“Alright!”
Arthur and Cain nodded in agreement.
Although they originally planned to root out and eliminate the vampires, Airael’s unexpected trip had disrupted their plans.
While it did provide them with some intelligence, it also startled the vampires and made them even harder to find.
Once the matter was settled, Cain took his leave.
There was nothing more to discuss; if news of the vampires came in, they would act instantly; if not, let everything return to calm!
“We should get some rest too, Arthur!”
After Cain left, Airael looked at Arthur.
“Sure!”
Arthur nodded, then walked over to Airael and picked her up suddenly.
Caught off guard, Airael struggled symbolically before being carried all the way to the bed by Arthur.
Arthur pinned Airael down, but didn’t make any further moves after that.
“Arthur?”
Airael looked at him, puzzled.
“Ailia!”
Arthur called out.
“Hmm?”
“Promise me you won’t act on your own again, okay?”
Airael pouted, feeling wronged. “I didn’t act on my own! I just wanted to go out and have some fun. I didn’t foresee what happened afterward!”
Arthur sighed and ruffled Airael’s golden hair. “Let this one slide, but next time at the base, you have to tell me whatever you plan to do.”
“Everything?”
Airael’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Ailia, you should understand what I mean.”
Seeing Airael deliberately misunderstanding, Arthur’s expression turned serious.
“Fine, I get it.”
Airael pouted again, feeling a bit unhappy.
Seeing that Airael had agreed, Arthur felt delighted and leaned down to kiss Airael.
But Airael turned her head away, displeased, saying:
“Don’t!”
“Ailia, I’m doing this for your own good. Your actions are genuinely dangerous.”
“I can protect myself fine! My power is strong now!”
Airael’s words left Arthur momentarily speechless.
Undeniably, Airael was indeed powerful at the moment.
Even Mork had suffered at her hands!
But Arthur had his own strategies as well.
After a moment, he spoke again, “But there are many situations where your power might not be effective. This time, they underestimated you, allowing you to take advantage. Just think—what if they had drugged you before you could act?”
Arthur’s counterargument made Airael close her mouth, her eyes widening.
Drugs!
That was something she hadn’t thought about.
Imagining the terrible fate of being drugged made Airael break out in a cold sweat.
Indescribable scenes from that day flashed in her mind.
If she were the protagonist in those scenes, she felt she would absolutely go insane.
Shaking her head vigorously, Airael dismissed all those sinister thoughts.
There was no way she would become that kind of “hot weapon!”
That was impossible!
Seeing Airael’s expression, Arthur said, “So, Ailia, please don’t refuse me.”
Though she was still somewhat unhappy about Arthur’s domineering nature, this time Airael didn’t dodge, allowing Arthur’s kiss to land perfectly on her lips.
Under the night, five vampires walked cautiously through the woods outside the Small Town.
Except for the old-timer and Selina appearing somewhat weak, the other vampires were in normal condition.
They treaded lightly, afraid of making any noise that might attract the humans’ attention.
This was the sad plight of those living in the dark world.
Without a proper territory of their own, they could hardly bear to see any light, having to survive cautiously and pitifully in this world.
Watching some humans, who were clearly weaker than themselves, live carefree and relaxed lives only added to their anguish.
After the vampires left during the night, over the next few days, Arthur and the others naturally received no actual news related to vampires.
In the end, they had no choice but to pack up and return to the military camp.
Upon returning to the camp, Airael, under Arthur’s strict limitations, found her life unbearably dull.
Aside from the necessary eating, drinking, and meditative training, she had to report everything to Arthur.
Only with Arthur’s consent could she do anything.
Airael didn’t reach out to Arthur because she didn’t plan on doing anything moving forward.
After returning to the camp, she made an astonishing discovery.
Her monthly cycle hadn’t arrived!
Airael knew very well what that meant.
There was probably something wrong with her body, and it was highly likely that her dream had come true.
However, Airael didn’t dare to be too sure.
She decided to wait a little longer.
Thus, Airael became incredibly well-behaved after returning to the military camp.
She was afraid that any unnecessary actions would affect the baby’s birth.
Though this process seemed too swift to her—after all, elves had always had low birth rates—the outcome was ultimately good.
