Chapter 531: Verdant Tourists
Breathing in the fresh air of the mountain area, the summer heat seemed to dissipate from his body.
When their group appeared in the town, they immediately caught attention. First was the massive greatsword behind Black Bull, which looked imposing at first glance. Then came the young couple, ‘Red Hat’ Edward and ‘Make-up Artist’ Margaret, whose attire bore distinct characteristics of the verdant style.
Their clothing was overall elegant, with edges meticulously adorned in elf-like intricate patterns, showcasing their refined taste and luxury.
Finally, when a young lady with hair that transitioned from blue to another shade stepped out of the carriage, many were left in awe.
She seemed like a star from the heavens falling into a clear lake, creating ripples that amazed and stunned everyone.
The town wasn’t short of visitors; most were residents from nearby areas, while others were travelers heading to the Holy Mountain. They took the opportunity to tour local attractions during their journey.
Among these visitors were people from the Verdant Empire.
As the strongest empire on the Western Continent, the empire had enjoyed peace for nearly a century, with its nobles and wealthy individuals often traveling by ship to satisfy their increasingly jaded aesthetic senses.
The Verdant Empire indeed had the natural and intricate artistic styles reminiscent of elves, as well as the pride and elegance passed down from the Green Moon. However, no matter how beautiful the scenery, after prolonged viewing, one would eventually tire of it. Thus, more and more people began traveling.
Some sailed on large ships or cruise liners, heading south to the archipelago or along the coast to the western side of the continent. From the port near the seaside of the Holy Land, they would disembark and travel eastward along the road to Mount Cullenreil.
Such travelers were not uncommon. After Lohil and her companions entered the town, they saw several other travelers dressed in a similar style on the streets.
“It seems like a nice place,” Edward, wearing the red hat, casually glanced around and commented.
“It looks like we can relax for a few days,” Margaret, the make-up artist,挽着爱德华的手,挽着爱德华的手, walked lightly on the cobblestone street, as if still retaining the innocence and curiosity of a newlywed bride.
“Don’t get lost, Alice,” Edward and Margaret whispered about the trinkets and beer by the roadside as they walked ahead, occasionally glancing back at their younger sister.
“There is no way, Brother.”
The blue-haired少女 stood a few steps behind the two, but she was not alone; a doll in her arms and a guard by her side accompanied her.
Her eyes, clear like a tranquil lake, curiously observed the shops along the street.
The storefronts seemed to have aged, with worn paint visible on the frames and edges, and the once-carved patterns now marred by old scratches, making them less distinct.
However, the glass near the street was still quite clean, evident that it had been recently wiped down, though some hard-to-reach small corners still retained a thin layer of dust.
Apart from common daily necessities, the items sold here included local beer and small, intricately carved wooden trinkets.
“Hotuhei Black Beer, brewed by a thirty-year-old winery, will give you an unparalleled experience.”
“Upon the meeting of the mountain spring’s refreshing water and the golden wheat fields, a wonderful collision occurs. Welcome to the Clear Spring Green Wilderness Winery.”
“Black Ebony Antelope, Red Camphor Carriage, White Maple Tower, Enchanted Forest. — Iron Box Woodcarving Shop.”
Without pearls from the sea or dazzling gems, nor ornate gold and silver, the residents used the common trees of the area to carve out various small trinkets.
This rustic beauty attracted many noble visitors from the verdant lands. They were already weary of those shiny things and instead found interest in these rustic, exotic trinkets.
However, they were indeed quite expensive.
Lolan Hill looked at the prices displayed in the window, comparing them in her mind. These trinkets and small objects were almost as valuable as pieces of gold and silver jewelry of similar size.
Perhaps this was their business strategy; if they sold them too cheaply, the wealthy might consider them low-grade and unworthy to wear.
She had heard her subordinates say much the same thing back in Hope Lane: luxury items sell on prestige. If the price drops, so does the prestige, turning them into items used by street carriage drivers.
Could nobles and street carriage drivers wear the same things? Of course not, which is why this pricing was a result of mutual selection.
As the少女 curiously surveyed the shops and scenery along the street, some tourists and residents also watched this ethereal and dreamlike少女, as if she were a masterpiece from a painting.
The painting was titled “Alice on the Ancient Street.”
In fact, at first, Lolan Hill was also curious as to why this mission did not involve dressing down and pretending to be an ordinary local tourist.
The person who designed her clothes explained like this:
“It’s not necessary to always be low-key and mediocre. In fact, sometimes choosing a character role that suits your personality better can be more natural and less likely to be exposed.”
“Constantly hiding one’s abilities and concealing the truth can sometimes backfire, making people feel out of place.”
“Playing the role of a nobleman seeking thrills is actually a good choice. They have money and time, and can easily try all sorts of interesting things. This way, there’s no need to find reasonable explanations for their actions because those people themselves enjoy doing unreasonable things.”
As the four of them walked and toured the small town by the mountainside, Edward really did buy some small trinkets to give to Margaret and Alice (Lolan Hill). During this time, someone wanted to approach and get to know or flirt with Alice (Lolan Hill), but the loyal guard (Black Bull) standing beside her always managed to stop them in time, preventing strangers from approaching their young lady.
Thus, the group roughly toured the streets of the small town, and only found a nicely decorated restaurant for lunch at noon.
The three of them sat at the table, while Black Bull stood behind them. During the wait for their meal, they began simple conversation.
“This town has beautiful scenery.” (The security here is good.)
“Yes, everything looks very relaxed and peaceful.” (There is nothing unusual.)
“Perhaps we should find a guide to explore properly. After walking for these days, we might as well rest here for a few days.” (We need to find a local to get detailed information; our time is still ample.)
“A great idea, dear.” (Agreed)
“How is Alice feeling?” (Is the dollmaker having any concerns?)
“I’m fine, the air here is fresh.” (No suspicious aura detected yet.)
“That’s good. If you feel uncomfortable, let us know. After all, you just recovered from an illness.” (Report any suspicious situations promptly.)
“Alright, thank you brother and Margaret.” (Yes, I understand.)
After finishing the local specialty of fragrant grilled meat for lunch, the four of them found a quiet inn to stay temporarily.
(The chapter ends.)
