Chapter 16: Airael’s Ambition

Chapter 16: Airael’s Ambition

Seeing her own weak abilities, Airael couldn’t help but shift her gaze to the Staff of Eternity she had placed aside.

She hadn’t forgotten the feeling of using the Staff for the first time.

The magical elements around her bowed down in submission; in that moment, she was undoubtedly the queen.

Although Teacher Domiya said that she wasn’t suited for such a fine staff yet, using it temporarily should be fine, right?

Comforting herself in this way, Airael stood up and slowly reached for the staff.

She didn’t want to be just a mascot.

She was the Elven Queen!

In the face of danger, she couldn’t just hide in the back.

She needed to face the danger courageously and contribute her own strength.

This was Airael’s initial plan for her path as a queen.

Since she had become the Elven Queen, she had to be a qualified queen and leave a brilliant mark in the annals of history for future generations.

It had to be said that after becoming the Elven Queen, a certain “ambition” had indeed risen in Airael’s heart.

In her previous life, as an ordinary worker, she couldn’t possibly have harbored such “ambition.”

Meanwhile, outside the tent, the Magic Wolves were being completely suppressed by the Royal Palace Guards.

While keeping a close eye on Hela, the powerful mage, they were inevitably unable to fully commit to the slaughter against the Royal Palace Guards.

“Awooo!”

At that moment, a wolf howl echoed once again.

Upon hearing the sound, the pack of Magic Wolves immediately withdrew.

However, this time they merely retreated nearby, continuing to glare at the Royal Palace Guards.

Just as the Royal Palace Guards suspected the Wolves’ motives, a familiar magical fluctuation came from the distance.

The guards’ hearts instantly sounded alarm bells.

“Reorganize! Defensive positions!”

Iis bellowed.

The Royal Palace Guards quickly reformed their somewhat scattered ranks.

After a moment spent regrouping, a magic circle appeared beneath their feet.

They intended to use magic to counter the enemy’s magical attacks, just like this afternoon.

And indeed, this was the best response.

However, they had just taken a moment to reorganize.

It was that slight delay that meant their magic shield had not yet formed when a massive transparent wind blade, belonging to the Magic Wolves, came rushing in from afar with unbeatable force.

Faced with the rapidly approaching wind blade, the Royal Palace Guards gritted their teeth and summoned their inner strength.

Though they could have chosen to dodge, they knew they couldn’t evade. Their queen was behind them.

Under the pressure of potential, the white shield from earlier had emerged, but unlike in the afternoon, it couldn’t unite properly this time.

This had drastically reduced the shield’s defensive capabilities.

Boom!

The massive transparent wind blade struck the white shield that several Elven Guards had desperately raised.

The white shield held for just a moment before being shattered by the wind blade, dispersing into countless light particles.

Next came the shields held by the guards, cut in half like the foliage before.

Finally, the intricately armored Royal Palace Guards.

Four guards who were hit directly by the wind blade were sent flying, their armor demonstrating a clear gash at the waist; blood was oozing from their wounds.

But this was still fortunate.

Had it not been for the previous layers of defense that absorbed some damage, plus the high-quality third layer of protection provided by their armor, their injuries would have been far more severe.

They could have been directly cleaved in half by the wind blade.

However, judging by the sight of them curled up on the ground, clutching their stomachs and wailing, their injuries were still no joke.

Airael, staff in hand, had just stepped out of the tent when she encountered this scene.

The still-warm blood spilling from the Royal Palace Guards violently assaulted her eyes.

Though she had imagined the scene to be grim, witnessing it directly was far worse than she had anticipated.

This was not like the scenes seen on a screen in her previous life.

Moreover, some images were shocking even from a distance.

“Your Majesty! What are you doing out here? It’s dangerous; please return to the tent!”

Just as Airael was lost in the gruesome scene, Celia and Aurora spotted her exiting the tent.

Their words caught Hela’s attention.

Seeing Airael in her nightgown, Hela frowned slightly and approached, saying, “Your Majesty, is there something you need?”

Iis had also noticed Airael, but at this moment he had to direct his subordinates to reorganize.

With some guards injured and unable to continue fighting, their formation was a bit smaller now.

Airael shifted her gaze away from the injured guards and forced herself to calm down.

Continuously reminding herself that she was the queen, she refused to be defeated by such a thing.

Once her inner calm was restored, Airael looked at Hela and said, “Teacher Hela, I don’t want to hide behind you anymore. I want to fight alongside you.”

“Your Majesty, I understand your feelings, but I still hope you understand that doing this will only cause us trouble.”

Hela advised.

“No, I have the ability to fight with you.”

Airael tightened her grip on the staff, her tone resolute.

“Awooo!”

At that moment, the familiar howl echoed once more.

Even without a common language, it was clear to the Elves that the Magic Wolves, effective in their magic, were about to launch an all-out attack.

The previous Vanguard troops had only been there to entangle and confuse them, possibly all in preparation for the powerful magic just unleashed.

Suddenly, four of the Royal Palace Guards had lost their combat effectiveness.

The Magic Wolves waiting nearby charged again toward the guards.

In the darkness, it was unclear how many more Magic Wolves were approaching them.

“Hold the line, protect Your Majesty!”

Iis yelled, his eyes fixed on the approaching Magic Wolves, his expression grave.

These damned Magic Wolves were getting increasingly cunning.

As the Wolves initiated a new wave of attacks, Hela had no time to discuss much with Airael.

Thus, she addressed Airael firmly, pointing toward the Magic Wolves, “Your Majesty, it’s very dangerous here! Please hurry back to the tent!”

As her words fell, a magic circle formed beneath Hela’s feet as she began casting a spell.

“Your Majesty, please hurry back to the tent! It’s dangerous here!”

At this moment, seeing Hela too preoccupied to attend to Airael, Celia and Aurora, acting as both maid and bodyguards, began to persuade her, with the golden-haired Celia speaking first.
