Chapter 396: Crabs and Swimsuits
“Juice would be fine,” said Lolan Hill, still not adept at drinking alcohol.
“I’m the same,” Ceti leaned against the table, raising her hand. She wore a white dress like Lolan Hill, even her hairstyle was the same, except that the hairband behind her head was a light red, while Lolan Hill’s was blue.
“Alright, two glasses of emerald berry juice, with ice, slightly diluted,” the waiter recorded this on his notebook.
“I’ll have some juice as well,” the others followed suit, each declaring their preferences one by one.
“What kinds of alcohol do you have?” Alena revealed her preferences at this point.
“We have various wines, the green fruit wine from the Southern Isles, the burning snow wine from the north. If we’re talking about specialties, recently we’ve received a new batch of curaçao wine from the west.”
“Curaçao wine, I remember this used to be a specialty of the Nisos商会,” Lolan Hill asked tentatively.
“This young lady truly knows her stuff. Yes, in the past, most of the wines here were supplied by the Nisos商会. Unfortunately, a few years ago, the Nisos商会 collapsed during the civil unrest, and its various branches became independent. Now, these curaçao wines are reportedly supplied by the Kallitas商会. They have absorbed the personnel and distilleries formerly belonging to the Nisos family, thus obtaining this recipe.”
“Is that so?”
Lolan Hill nodded slightly. It seemed that after she left, the people in the 商会 had made this happen. Upon careful reflection, it wasn’t surprising. The Kallitas商会 had many citrus orchards suitable for making curaçao wine. They could use the excess oranges that didn’t sell to make it.
Moreover, since the headquarters of the Nisos family were in Hope Lane, those people wouldn’t leave. There was no reason not to absorb them now. However, it was unknown how they were treated now, and whether the managers of the 商会 were following the rules she had left behind.
The upheaval back then was still vividly remembered. That youth under the moonlight, what he experienced wasn’t an isolated incident. One could only hope that things might get better.
It was time to go back and see, but she had to wait until this holiday assignment was over.
After ordering the food, several young ladies sat down on chairs, waiting. Outside the glass window, the street slowly sank into the night, and streetlights began to illuminate.
These streetlights were shaped like pavilions, probably made of iron, but painted, with a five-petal black top and five slightly thicker pieces of glass below, each with a base in the middle where a bright gemstone shone.
Lighting these gemstone lamps required magic power, and these lamps
The magic came from several patrol officers dressed in uniforms of black with blue edges. As they walked past each street lamp, they would open the lampshade to charge it before locking it back and moving on to the next one. The strength of these individuals was generally around Sequence 2, and judging by their proficiency, they had been doing this for quite some time.
“Is Loran curious about this?” Letis asked beside her, noticing how seriously Lolan Hill was observing these people.
“Yes.” Indeed, the girl thought to herself. She hadn’t expected the street lamps here to be like this.
“This is different from school; there are no automatic switches or mana crystals. They can only light the lamps this way, but the advantage is that the cost is slightly lower. A medium-sized city only needs 20-30 Sequence 2 Extraordinary Beings,” Letis explained.
“In fact, Rourna used to do this as well, but after the mana crystal technology matured, it became less complicated.”
“It’s quite good,” she recalled Hopland, where most streets were lit by fuel, and only the main roads had street lamps. During festivals or events, most streets would be illuminated.
“Wow, the crab has arrived.”
After waiting for a while, dinner was finally served. First came the large crab, over a meter wide, with a red gradient shell, quietly resting on the plate, emitting a steady stream of heat. Surrounding it were fresh green garnishes, and the fragrance of condiments was fully released after being fried, mingling with a subtle scent of thyme.
Two waiters provided tableware for the young ladies and then asked if anyone needed help cutting the crab.
“Yes,” Letis responded. Looking at the whole large crab, she found it somewhat challenging, and this young lady was accustomed to receiving professional services.
“Alright.”
Thus, the two waiters took out specially made knives and scissors, slowly dismembering the crab. They separated the legs, removed the claws, and cut open the hard shell, revealing a small amount of pale pink meat.
As the aroma of food wafted through the air, the others also looked quite hungry.
Once the crab was handled, the waiters stepped back, and everyone began to enjoy their dinner.
“Toasting!” Alena raised her cup first, and the others raised their various fruit juices, clinking glasses with a clear sound. Under the warm yellow light, they started eating.
The gentle sound of porcelain clinking and soft conversation made this table in the hall feel warm and lively. The companions discussed where they would go and what they would buy the next day.
“In a few days, we’ll be going out to sea. I guess none of us have prepared swimsuits,” Lily said as she placed a piece of honey-coated bread into
“In the mouth, she said slowly,
‘Indeed there isn’t any.’
Bumansa replied, followed by nods from the others.
“How about we go take a look tomorrow? After passing this place, it will be the sea. Besides, the clothes in the Southern Isles might not be as abundant as Yubaire. If we miss this chance, it won’t be convenient,” Lily suggested.
“Mm-hm.”
A few of the young ladies nodded in agreement, but Lolan希尔 seemed a bit hesitant.
“Bathing suits… It feels like one would wear so little.”
She had seen bathing suits displayed in clothing stores in Hope Lane before. The styles were not much different from those in her previous life; they were all very revealing.
“What’s a bathing suit, Lolan?” Keti asked innocently.
“It’s the clothes you wear when swimming. Even if they get soaked, they can still cover your body,” she explained simply to the Flame Lady.
“It seems similar to regular clothes,” Keti didn’t quite understand.
“Yes, it’s the kind with very little fabric.” This was the key point, Lolan thought quietly.
Why do people feel shy wearing only undergarments in front of others, but not bathing suits, even though they’re quite similar?
“Alright, let’s make it so,” as Lolan and Keti were explaining, the itinerary for the next day was decided: first, they would buy clothes, then everyone would explore the city, and in the evening, they would watch an opera performance.
“Woah, so spicy! Water!” Night灵 stuck out her tongue, finished her cup of juice, but still felt the spiciness. She then looked at the small orange bottle in front of Alena, which contained Cointreau.
Her nimble little body immediately stood up, stretched to reach the bottle, opened it, and poured some into her cup. Although she was a bit anxious, she had good manners and didn’t drink directly from the bottle.
The fragrant and slightly sweet Cointreau swirled like amber in the porcelain cup, then was picked up and swallowed by Night灵.
“Phew~ saved.”
Her little face flushed red as she leaned back against the chair, swinging her legs back and forth under the chair, feeling a bit dizzy as she looked at the crowd in front of her.
“It’s just like juice,” she slumped against the back of the chair, her eyes wandering, and her two milky-white twin tails drooping over the chair.
Night灵 felt the scenery in front of her slowly floating, her eyelids growing heavier, then slowly closing, until she faintly heard a familiar and gentle voice.
“This little one…”
Then, she was held in a soft embrace and fell into a peaceful sleep.
