Chapter 378: Inside the Hall
Cecina’s struggles grew weaker, a suffocating dizziness slowly filling her consciousness. A faint barrier rose around her, indicating that she could no longer bear the burden and had to withdraw.
”Hmph,” Othuna snorted as she felt the repulsive force on her hand. She then released her grip, letting Cecina fall to the ground. Since there was a barrier protecting her, Cecina wouldn’t die from the fall.
Inside the hall of the Temple Academy, where the academy’s flag was located, Lolan Hill sat up from her sleep. This side hall was where Cecina had placed her here for easy protection.
The nun guarding the hall asked a few simple questions after seeing her awake and then hurried to the main hall to inform the knight commander.
”Awake?” Ingrid walked over, holding her longsword. It seemed she hadn’t slept all night.
”Mm, what’s the situation now?” Lohil threw off the blanket and stood up. She had been sleeping in her clothes, her black veil robe still on.
”Cecina has taken people to suppress those who sneaked into the academy. It shouldn’t be a big problem,” Ingrid said.
”No, Othuna isn’t so easy to deal with,” Lolan Hill immediately knew her earlier intuition was correct. Even without switching to the Natural Sequence to listen, she could roughly guess the outcome.
”I see,” Ingrid pondered for a moment but didn’t doubt Lolan Hill’s words.
”But we’re short-handed, and it might be too late to send reinforcements. The High Tower Academy is also watching us closely.”
”In that case, let’s signal them to retreat if they see the signal. Every little bit helps,” Lolan Hill decisively said. Without Cecina, she, as the chief candidate, had actually become the leader of these students.
”I understand,” Ingrid nodded and quickly stepped out of the hall, ordering others to act. Soon, a special flare shot up into the night sky.
—
”Lord Jack, something’s happening inside the Temple Academy.”
A mage留守的法师 shook the weary chief, who sat up abruptly from his bedroll near the campfire. He looked towards the distant night sky, at the red fireworks exploding.
With his right hand gripping his staff, his index finger rapidly tapped. Jack’s mind raced, and then he struck the staff against the ground.
A ripple spread out.
“Call everyone up; it’s time we start moving.”
“Yes!”
The golems lit up again, slowly moving forward. The remaining dragons flapped their wings and flew into the sky, creating gusts of wind.
At the same time, inside the Temple Academy, on the streets.
With a series of swooshing sounds, arrows sliced through the night sky, piercing white cloaks and striking golden armor. Some arrows fell off, some were deflected, and others embedded themselves. Despite the Angel Sequence being extremely resilient and adept at defense, they found it difficult to cope with the full squad of Nature Archers at Sequence 6. People began to withdraw one after another.
These suddenly appearing Nature Sequence students seemed to have emerged from every corner. They did not fall from the sky with the members of ‘Black Veil,’ but instead launched a ground assault under the cover of the moonlight. With the special spells of the Nature Sequence providing silent support, they approached and breached the academy undetected. Now, they were attacking from both sides, quickly overwhelming the black-robed members and the surrounding white-cloaked Golden Armor Holy Knights.
However, even so, the situation was not entirely one-sided.
“Glowflame!” Several knight captains raised their swords, and white flames burned on the blades, creating ripples that spread out in all directions. These ripples acted like a force field, dispersing the magic power of other sequences, temporarily weakening the opponents’ attacks.
Taking advantage of this brief respite, some knights stayed behind to provide cover while others quickly retreated, heading back to the academy’s base.
Meanwhile, the students of Fortress Academy followed closely, until they reached the outer courtyard of the Temple Academy’s base. A white light screen rose, blocking the path forward.
Outside the academy, the golems and mages also entered the streets, gathering outside the courtyard amidst the roaring of dragons.
Now, there were only 21 students left in the Temple Academy, all of them with the Angel Sequence. Fortress Academy had suffered no significant damage, with over 120 people gathered outside the courtyard. High Tower Academy still had its remaining 37 students. At this moment, Fortress Academy had a clear numerical advantage.
Originally, High Tower and Fortress Academies had been working together, but as the competition neared its end, there seemed to be no need to continue their alliance. The previous pact was in jeopardy, and Jack did not rush into an attack on the Temple Academy, choosing to wait for now.
Seeing this, Ousuna could guess his thoughts, but she didn’t care.
Victory was just a matter of time, and she became more at ease. She left 40 people behind to provide support and monitor the students from the Tower Academy, while she led over 80 members to directly assault the front gate of the Temple.
Red light marks slashed fiercely, and the white light wall shattered accordingly. In front of the crowd appeared a row of knights clad in silver-white armor, numbering only ten. Leading them was Ingrid, wearing a helmet. They stood on the high steps, holding lances and shields.
After the light screen broke, these knights immediately spurred their horses down, with their lances pointing forward. Though thin and covering only fifty meters, they displayed an unstoppable momentum.
Thick and long lances shone like the sun, radiating orange-red, orange, bright yellow, and incandescent light from within outwards. Accelerating to the end, these lance-like beams struck their opponents like cannons, burning tips melting gold and iron, easily piercing through the crimson barriers, directly stabbing through their bodies, emitting burnt white smoke and a scorched smell.
After this strike, several opponents were forced off the stage, leaving a scene filled with wails and cries, later rushed away by medical personnel.
But soon, these black-robed members reacted as well, thrusting these exhausted knights off their horses, surrounding and defeating them.
Although they only achieved a 1:1.5 exchange ratio, considering the current advantage in numbers and strength of the opposing side, this result was quite impressive. It was mainly due to catching the enemy off guard, plus the added boost from the charge and lances.
Osuna slowly pulled her sword out of Ingrid’s chest, slightly frowning. These angel-ranked students were not easy to corrupt; her usual plague talent was heavily restrained today.
She led the remaining people forward, pushing open the closed temple doors, revealing the interior景象 at last.
Ten nuns dressed in white robes and hoods stood in the center of the hall, holding candles on either side, while in the middle stood a veiled black-clothed girl. The only thing visible was her silver hair peeking out from under the hood. This girl held a winged staff, standing quietly, seemingly the leader of these people. Her slender and delicate figure exuded a vast and boundless aura like the sea, filling the entire temple with a pale golden light particle ocean.
“Who are you?”
Osuna looked at this powerful opponent she had never heard of before and asked.
