Chapter 278: The Fall of Spear and Sword
Although Darsi was only in the fourth year, he might be one or two years older than Verin, just starting school later.
After both sides ascended to the stone platform, the final match officially began.
The spear Darsi held was about three meters long, with its shaft made from dense green wood soaked in resin. This meant countless fine extraordinary wooden branches were bound together by fish glue threads, making it extremely resilient and elastic. It could also withstand high temperatures. Although it had no extraordinary effects, it stood out for its durability and toughness.
Once the battle started, Darsi rushed forward silently, his force powerful enough to split rocks.
The long spear swung violently, pressed by speed and immense power, forming a sinister crescent moon that crossed hundreds of meters in an instant. The cold and beautiful spearhead formed a silver line, directly shattering Verin’s blood-red sword.
The spearhead broke, steel fragments splashing as they pierced Verin’s body, creating several bleeding holes. Verin’s sword also bent and twisted, with most of its inscriptions damaged.
Verin then left a hundred-meter-long blood trail on the stone platform before finally stopping.
“What a pity,” lamented a teacher watching from the main stand.
“Why do you say so? Is it because Verin was careless?” asked a teacher from the Temple Academy nearby.
“Pity that Darsi’s weapon wasn’t better; otherwise, he would have won this time.” The teacher shook his head and continued watching the match.
“Cough.” Verin spat out a mouthful of blood and then struggled to her feet, quickly flipping to dodge Darsi’s pursuing attack. Even though the spearhead had broken, the spear still carved a long trench in the ground, sparks flying, and the harsh sound of friction echoed across the battlefield.
Verin unleashed her magic power once again, her pupils and hair turning deep red. She narrowly avoided Darsi’s attacks multiple times, the fierce wind from the spear cutting through her skin and hair, leaving bloody trails and glowing red strands.
Due to Darsi’s extremely powerful and swift movements, students in the audience felt like watching a low frame-rate video, constantly flashing and reappearing, creating a suffocating feeling even from such a distance. The terrifying strength and speed still loomed over them like a dark mountain.
Debris flew, and the piercing metallic grinding sounds continued. Cracks began to spread across the stone platform, and many students gradually stopped talking.
Instead of being deterred, he was drawn and captivated by the brutal combat on the stone dais.
Vilin held the twisted longsword with both hands, fiercely cutting through the lance. With a loud explosion, the spearhead shattered and flew off, while the fibers within the shaft scattered, piercing Vilin’s abdomen, leaving a bloody mess.
Darsi did not stop there; instead, he turned the lance and used the relatively intact butt end to stab at Vilin’s chest, aiming to pierce her heart.
Swoosh—
Vilin bit her lip until blood came out. She spun the longsword at an unexpected speed, slicing through the incoming lance along its fibers, splitting it in half. Then, Darsi’s rough hand grabbed Vilin’s right wrist, preparing for close combat and to seize the sword.
Unfortunately, Vilin quickly released her grip with her right hand and held the sword with her left. She first kicked Darsi’s other hand with her back arching, then flipped her body, using the sword to cut towards her own right hand, forcing Darsi to let go.
Facing the sharp blade, Darsi had no choice but to release his grip, but he also pulled back, causing the sword to flash, severing Vilin’s right wrist, which fell to the ground, splattering blood.
With a brief escape, Vilin finally broke free from Darsi’s suppression, kicking off the ground and flying into the sky. Crimson wings appeared behind her, carrying her higher into the sky.
Without any means of flight, Darsi could do nothing for the moment and had to leap off the stone dais, using the grand stone pillars of the arena to dodge Vilin’s potential attacks.
After flying into the high sky, Vilin’s crimson magic burned more intensely, her hair dancing like flames under the moonlight. She pressed her bleeding right wrist with her left hand, and flesh surged, growing a new right hand.
To cope with various harsh battles and treacherous environments, the self-healing speed of the Demon Sequence has always been the fastest among all Sequences, though it comes with many side effects.
After regrowing her right wrist, Vilin’s face paled slightly. She gripped the blood-red longsword with both hands again, her eyes closed, slowly gathering strength, then lifting the sword toward the center of her head.
A red lightning bolt seemed to flash across the sky. Vilin’s eyes opened, and the cold, fierce sword light swept over the stone dais below. The stone pillars beneath began to slide away slowly, revealing their smooth, polished surfaces.
The boulder fell into the still lake, creating enormous splashes. The towering stone pillars instantly became a pile of rubble, settling in the water, with only a small portion remaining above the surface.
The students
Crowds surged towards the periphery of the viewing stands to watch the scene below, and at the wave of a certain mentor’s hand, six enormous light screens appeared before the stands, reflecting the scenes beneath.
In the dark waters of the lake, a powerful figure stood atop a pile of stones, his clothes drenched, revealing muscles contorted to the point of distortion.
Velin swung her sword again, the sword light crossing into a cross shape, pressing downward. Unfortunately, such a distant attack was easily avoided by Darsi. Then, Darsi extended his finger and made a taunting gesture toward the sky.
A young man in white robes watching from the stands sighed as he saw the red figure diving down from the sky. “Velin is too proud,” he said with a sigh.
“Actually, Velin knows that if she stays in the sky, she can only maintain a stalemate. It’s too difficult to defeat Darsi with long-range attacks. Besides, the match isn’t without time constraints,” said a young lady beside him. The two had similar appearances, but this young lady was more ethereal and extraordinary.
“So, that’s why Brother you conceded even though you were slightly ahead?” the young lady turned to look at her brother.
“Yes.” The young man stroked his sister’s head and continued, “For students of the Eastern Continent, rankings and honors within the school aren’t so important. There’s no need to fight this fiercely over them.”
“Moreover, I gradually realized during the battle that if Velin truly exerted all her strength, I wouldn’t be able to beat her.”
“But such an outburst isn’t without cost. Using the power of the Demon Sequence to forcibly enhance physical abilities and skill potency inevitably brings great damage. If not for the teachers frequently healing her, and given her privileged background with various resources, such a desperate fighting style would lead to her untimely death within a few years.”
Buyou looked at the island in the lake where red and gray clashed back and forth, slowly expressing his viewpoint.
“Overly rigid will break, the proud dragon will have regrets.”
“Even so, if it were a life-or-death battle, it would be Brother you who would die,” Lvfeng said, standing beside her brother. Her long hair fluttered slowly in the night air, her eyes reflecting the red flames.
Today, I took the train home, so the update is late. I am currently typing.
