Chapter 196: Battle in the Dark Room
Regardless of what people outside were saying, Kafra still ignored them. After all, she didn’t get along well with her classmates, so no one came over to chat. In the following few classes, Kafra managed to get through safely without falling asleep like she did in the previous days; instead, she focused intently on her lessons.
After class in the afternoon, Kafra went to a secluded part of the central school building’s park where a black-haired girl was already waiting there, sitting lightly against the back of a bench and writing something in her hand.
“Hello, Elder Sister Loran.”
Even though Kafra was taller than Loran Hill when standing side by side, calling her this way seemed very natural to her, carrying a bit of respect and warmth.
Her black hair was draped over her shoulders, with some strands falling onto her chest. Compared to her past silver hair, the black-haired Loran Hill looked more mysterious and mature. If the silver-haired Loran Hill was like a naive and obedient young girl, then the black-haired one appeared more serene and intellectual, much like a black lotus blooming at night.
Loran lifted her head, swept her stray black hair behind her ear, and responded softly, “Good afternoon, and please just call me Loran. There’s no need for honorifics.”
“Mm, understood, Elder Sister Loran,” Kafra replied, then called her again.
“Why do you also call me that?” Loran said helplessly, looking at the young girl in front of her, who was just like Ye Ling, fond of calling her ‘elder sister,’ even though she was taller than herself.
After meeting up, they first went to the dining hall for a meal. On their way, Loran asked about some things.
“How’s the environment in your dorm?”
“Well, I don’t get along very well with my roommates,” Kafra said with a bitter smile.
“I think you should apply to form a club. That way, you’ll have a club activity room,” Loran thought carefully.
Studying in the dormitory had a table, but since it was Loran’s dorm, Kafra would feel quite constrained and unnatural there. Going to Lohil’s place was too far, and it would expose another identity.
If they formed a club, they could apply for a small activity room. Although it wasn’t large, it would be enough for 7-8 people. The only problem was the required credits and initial members.
At least three core members were needed initially. They already had two, and it wouldn’t be difficult to find another one. The issue was the credits. Establishing a club required Glory Credits, which were awarded for competitions, activities, and awards. Regular courses only gave basic credits unless one achieved a perfect score, then they could get an extra Glory Credit.
Although Loran’s grades were excellent, exams hadn’t started yet, so she couldn’t earn Glory Credits from her grades. The only option now was some college activities, but due to many restrictions, freshmen could participate in very few.
After finishing their meal, Loran first helped Kafra find a classroom to study for a while before heading back late.
“Elder Sister Loran, see you tomorrow,” Kafra waved and slowly walked toward her dorm.
“See you tomorrow, Kafra,” it seemed she couldn’t change her habit, and Loran could only accept this term.
Back in the dorm, Loran asked her roommate about Glory Credits.
Letis had just finished her bath, wearing light blue pajamas, leaning against a sofa cushion in the hall, holding a fashion magazine and reading it with great interest. Hearing Loran’s question, she raised her head.
“These days, I’ve heard that there’s a clothing competition coming up soon. Participants make their own clothes and are rated based on aesthetics, practicality, and ability. The top scorers receive Glory Credits. This event is open to all students, not just freshmen,” Letis explained.
“This sounds interesting. Why didn’t anyone tell me?” Lily complained while sitting at the table, a plate of snacks in front of her. She had recently become good friends with Alena and often visited her.
“How comfortable,” Alena said as she walked in after bathing, steam rising from her body. She picked up a snack and sat next to Lily.
“Making clothes isn’t fun at all. Besides, upperclassmen also participate, and they’re all veterans. Competing with them is too hard.” Alena chewed on a dumpling and continued, “I heard there will be a special event for freshmen soon, called ‘Battle in the Dark Room.'”
“You can try this one, Lily. Don’t try to fit in with those rich girls. They’re different from us,” Alena suggested.
“What does this battle entail? Why is it in a dark room?” Lily was intrigued.
“It seems they want to encourage freshmen to overcome their psychological barriers and fight with swords. The rewards are generous,” Letis chimed in, adding that the information seemed accurate, or perhaps the rich girls enjoyed gossip.
“Because they fear embarrassment. I heard someone wet themselves the first time they went on stage and was scared. Others were hit in the face with wooden swords and cried. To avoid putting too much pressure on students, it’s done indoors without spectators,” Letis explained further.
“I still suggest you join the clothing competition, Loran. Given your looks, you’ll look good in any outfit and easily win first place,” Letis added, glancing at Loran who was in the kitchen picking vegetables.
“Loran, which one will you choose? And could you not put chili peppers tonight?” Letis asked.
“Letis, move away. Chili peppers are delicious. Eating sweet food every day with you is unbearable,” Alena loudly protested, staunchly defending her chili pepper preference.
Since they started combat training recently, everyone’s appetite had increased, and they ate dinner earlier, around 5-6 PM. By midnight, their stomachs would be very hungry. One time, Loran Hill cooked something herself, and the fragrant, steaming food immediately captivated the whole dorm.
Now, they often begged Loran Hill to cook some midnight snacks. Every afternoon, they spontaneously bought ingredients from the dining hall and placed them in the kitchen cabinet for Loran Hill to use.
The white soup kept boiling. Loran Hill covered the pot and walked out, then said irritably, “You’ve been eating so much lately. Aren’t you worried about getting fat? I don’t want to raise three pigs.”
Thank you.
