Chapter 48: Airael’s Day Off

Chapter 48: Airael’s Day Off

“Honestly, these guys sure know how to make an entrance! Now we have to deal with both the dwarves and them.”

Arthur shook his head, feeling quite helpless.

“Even though our energy is limited, those vampires still need to be dealt with. If we let them grow, the consequences will be catastrophic.”

“I know!”

Arthur shut his eyes.

After a moment, he opened them again and said, “Speaking of which, dwarves and vampires don’t really get along, do they?”

Cain was taken aback at first, unsure why Arthur brought that up.

Then he quickly understood and replied, “That’s true. They had a lot of conflicts due to their different beliefs and their past as neighbors. But that was ages ago.”

Arthur shook his head; looking at Cain, he asked, “So, Cain, have you ever interacted with the dwarves?”

“No!”

Cain shook his head.

“See? You still don’t know much about the dwarves. They’re a very stubborn race. Once a seed of hatred is planted in their hearts, it will definitely sprout and grow until they settle the score!”

Cain responded, “But that happened a long time ago. Relying on this doesn’t seem very promising.”

“We don’t want the dwarves to help us against the vampires; we just need them to not hinder us. If they can sit back and watch two enemies fight it out, I’m sure they’d love to see that scene.”

The more Arthur spoke, the more he felt it was a possibility.

As long as the dwarven threat was temporarily gone, dealing with the not-so-formidable vampires shouldn’t be a problem at all.

“Let’s hope so!”

Cain understood Arthur’s sentiments well and provided an answer that wasn’t very certain.

But even so, it greatly encouraged Arthur.

It made him feel like his plan had a high chance of success.

“Cain, since you think it’s possible, let’s move quickly!”

“This time, you’re not alone; Ailia and I are joining the vampire hunt.”

“Speaking of Miss Ailia, she just went to a nearby small town by herself, saying she was bored and wanted to take a stroll.”

“Well, if she wants to go out, let her go out!”

Arthur dismissed it nonchalantly.

“While that’s true, there have recently been sightings of ghosts nearby, and that ghost is quite formidable. If Miss Ailia catches its attention, she could be in danger being alone.”

After Cain said this, Arthur felt a wave of worry for Airael, who was out and about.

It’s not the visible enemies he feared, but the ones lurking in the shadows plotting devious tricks.

Vampires were that kind of existence; they were even more cunning than the dark elves.

Seeing Arthur’s anxious demeanor, Cain continued, “My lord, I think it’s best if we find Miss Ailia first. If she’s alright, we’ll have more leeway against the vampires.”

“Mm!”

Arthur nodded vigorously.

With Cain’s words, he felt an increasing sense of dread about the unknown dangers that Airael might encounter.

Meanwhile, as they discussed the future movements of their army, Airael had already ridden to the nearby small town.

Although the town was on the border, it was bustling with activity.

In addition to the usual travelers, many nobles were currently visiting this town.

Nobles tend to have very extravagant spending habits.

This boosted consumption across the board.

With these nobles spending here, the residents of the small town, especially those running shops, were enjoying a much more comfortable life thanks to the nobles’ lavish expenditures.

However, behind this prosperity, there were still many dark and unsightly things lurking.

The so-called vampires were just a minuscule part of it all.

But today, Airael didn’t have to think about any of that.

Her purpose in coming here was simple.

That was to have a good time!

It was about time she improved her own life a little.

She had never truly relaxed before.

Today, having the opportunity, she was determined to seize it!

Airael was just like an innocent young girl seeing the world for the first time, touching here and there, looking around with bright eyes.

Whenever she came across something she wanted to eat or get, she bought it without a second thought.

Anything that caught her eye, she felt it was just a casual act of giving.

With her charming figure and sweet-sounding voice, she made quite the impression.

However, a small town is still just that—a small town. Despite its liveliness, it was too small in scale.

Before long, Airael found herself with nothing else to do.

Once again, she became bored.

On the secluded street of the small town, Airael looked up at the sky, feeling quite uninspired.

“Oh, all-powerful God, if you can hear my heart’s desires, please find me something to do!”

“Don’t leave me so bored; let me have something meaningful.”

Although she was living like a rice-weevil, she still wanted to put in some effort.

Airael didn’t hide her somewhat obsessive thoughts as she fervently petitioned the unknown god she hoped existed.

And who knows, maybe the god heard her wish.

A pair of eyes were currently watching her from the shadows.

Airael, oblivious, continued to grumble about the unfairness of the gods.

But her thoughts had strayed far from her current boredom to her past life as a man.

Though she had adapted to her present identity and bravely taken those steps necessary for childbirth, the lingering resentment still accumulated in her heart, refusing to dissipate.

“Young lady, it’s quite dangerous to be out here alone.”

Suddenly, a figure emerged from a nearby alley and spoke to Airael.

His complexion was quite pale, giving off a very unpleasant vibe, and he exuded an aura of coldness.

Seeing someone approach and strike up a conversation, even if he seemed somewhat feminine, Airael was quite pleased and replied, “Is it dangerous here? I don’t really think so! I’m rather satisfied, other than a few small issues.”

As she spoke, Airael stuck out her tongue and licked her lips, “Like that little snack shop—the food there is delicious! If I wasn’t so full, I’d definitely go back for more.”

“How about coming to my shop for a look?”

The pale man asked.

“Your shop?”
