Chapter 168: Dormitory Roommates
The magitech motorcycle traveled through a lush wilderness, moving along a broad avenue lined with trees. Sunlight filtered through the fresh green leaves, casting fragmented shadows on the road. The shadows fell upon the students sitting beside the windows, creating a play of light and shadow that highlighted their youthful, vibrant faces.
“We’ve arrived. Everyone, please disembark and stay put. I will distribute the keys to your dormitories,” the guide said.
Finally, the magitech motorcycle came to a stop beneath a pristine white building. The apartment-style dormitory was entirely white, approximately seven or eight stories tall. The walls felt rough and hard, like sand granules. Some of the sides of the buildings were covered with lush green vines, much like ivy.
“Room 439, Janice.”
“Present.”
“Very good. Come here; this is your room key. It’s on the third floor, room 26.”
“Thank you.”
Then the staff began distributing keys one by one, explaining some important points.
For example, no staying out overnight, always wear your badge, no fighting within the academy, and after settling your luggage, you can read the new student handbook, which was distributed when you boarded.
“Room 624, Lolan.”
“Here.”
Lolan Hill stepped forward and took her key.
“Your room is on the sixth floor, room 12.”
“Thank you.”
Afterwards, Lolan Hill entered the dormitory building. The first floor did not house any residents. The first thing that caught her eye was the spacious hall. On either side of the hall were large notice boards filled with information about new student guidelines and recent activities. Among them, the most eye-catching was a black notice board with white and blue letters exaggeratedly announcing:
[Legends of Romance! Who will be the strongest this year? A new legend will be revealed at the Tyan Ying Arena.]
‘Looking forward to it, March 7th,’ the small print read.
Is there going to be a competition or duel soon? Lolan Hill thought to herself. She decided to ask other senior students later. Then she carried her wooden box upstairs.
The hallway was also quite wide, with portraits of outstanding graduates hanging on the walls.
[Grille, Third Epoch 1026-1132, inventor of the Golden Moon Green Branch Potion.]
[Li Buhou, Third Epoch 1278-1321, General of the Divine Might Dragon of the Southern Campaign during the House of Plantagenet.]
Each portrait was lifelike and exquisitely detailed, showing the painter’s exceptional skill.
When Lolan Hill reached the door of her assigned dormitory, a young girl was already standing there. She held the key, carefully trying to insert it into the keyhole, but it got stuck and wouldn’t turn. She didn’t dare use force and had to keep trying patiently.
“Are you also staying here?” Lolan Hill approached and checked the room number, confirming it was indeed room 12.
“Yes, hello,” the girl paused and turned around to greet her, holding the key awkwardly and twisting it in her palm.
“Let me try.”
Lolan Hill set down her box, took out her own key, inserted it, and gave it a slight twist. With a soft click, the door opened.
“How impressive, thank you.”
“Not a problem. I didn’t expect we would be roommates both on the journey and now in the dorm.”
Lolan Hill looked at the girl named Nia, then they both entered. The dormitory consisted of three rooms, roughly three rectangular sections placed side by side. In the central hall, there was a large rectangular table, and along the wall was a row of low cabinets. Both the top and inside of the cabinets could be used for storage. The room on the left was divided into two parts, one for the bathroom and the other a simple kitchen. The room on the right was the bedroom, containing two bunk beds, already made up with clean blankets and pillows.
It looked quite nice, much more comfortable than her university dormitory in her previous life, more like a small apartment. Lolan Hill thought.
She put down her only wooden box and checked the bed, finding it very clean. The blankets and pillows were all new. It made sense, as many students here were princes, princesses, and children of high nobility. The academy didn’t lack funds, so naturally, the bedding would be better.
“Hello everyone, I’m Alena~”
A lively-sounding girl appeared at the dormitory entrance. Seeing that others were already inside, she introduced herself.
“Hello,” Nia greeted her, and then Lolan Hill came out of the bedroom.
This girl named Alena panted as she put her box inside the dormitory and sat down in the hall. Just as Lolan Hill was about to introduce herself, a faint cat sound came from one of the boxes.
“Meow~”
Though the sound was not loud, all the supernaturals present noticed it immediately.
“This… this,” Alena quickly thought of a tragic story to convince her roommates to let her keep the cat.
“Is there a cat in the box?” Lolan Hill asked curiously, a smile on her face.
“Yes. Since it can’t be hidden, might as well admit it,” Alena thought to herself.
“Does the school allow keeping cats?” Nia also asked curiously.
“Well, I’m not sure, but I think, maybe, perhaps, it’s allowed to keep cats,” Alena hesitated and then bent down to open the box. An orange-and-white striped kitten was lifted out.
Alena placed the kitten on the table for the other roommates to meet it. The cat was mostly orange with white stripes on its chest and paws, looking quite adorable. Its eyes widened as it looked around, curious and a bit scared.
“So cute~” Nia exclaimed.
“It’s pretty.”
“But how can someone keep a cat in the dormitory? Isn’t that against the rules?” A familiar voice suddenly came from the doorway. It was the blonde-haired, princess-like young lady from before.
At this moment, she wasn’t accompanied by a group of squires but was alone. She held a folding fan and waved it in the air, causing the two boxes to fall to the ground with a dull thud. It seemed she had been using airflow to carry the boxes up effortlessly.
That folding fan is a pearl-grade supernatural artifact, Lolan Hill observed, guessing that it enhanced wind manipulation and stability, making it a rare treasure. Moreover, this blonde girl herself possessed Sequence 3 abilities, which explained her ease.
“The school doesn’t have any explicit rule prohibiting it. I remember there are even subjects related to taming beasts and supernatural professions,” Alena countered.
“But you didn’t inform us beforehand. Don’t you think that’s selfish?”
“What if someone is allergic to cats, or dislikes animals, or if the cat isn’t clean?”
“I don’t want to see my blanket full of black paw prints every day, or have my clothes torn by it,” the blonde girl continued.
“This…” Alena was at a loss for words.
“But the cat is really cute, and it’s very obedient. It will get along well with everyone,”
