Chapter 41 Prelude to the Night Banquet
Lolan Hill sat at her dressing table, allowing Chelsea to adorn her.
At this moment, she looked somewhat different from before. Her hair was no longer silver but had turned golden, due to the consumption of an extraordinary potion known as the Rainbow Potion (rare Bronze grade), which could change hair color and skin tone. She learned about it from Trinasha’s records; witches lived long lives, so they unknowingly accumulated a wealth of knowledge in these areas. Her eye color had also reverted to its original light blue.
She wore a blue evening gown, with a beautiful bow at the side of the waist. Below the waist, the blue skirt split, revealing a white underdress underneath, adding depth and layers to her appearance. The hem of the dress was adorned with lace, enhancing its elegance and beauty.
After dressing in the elaborate gown, Lolan Hill pinned Trinasha’s butterfly hair clip to the side. Her golden hair covered her pale neck at the back, while two strands were left hanging in front of her chest. This blue off-shoulder evening gown was the most conservative one she had picked out among the many clothes available. She had passed on those with deep backlines and split skirts.
Even so, she still felt slightly uncomfortable, but she was willing to wear it because the neckline was high enough, showing very little.
“Miss Lacy, where are you from? I have never seen such a beautiful girl like you.”
Chelsea, while combing Lolan Hill’s hair, asked curiously.
“I don’t know. I grew up in the forest, raised by my teacher.”
“Oh, I’m sure that wherever you go in any country, countless young men would go mad over you if you were to appear publicly.”
“Mmm, I don’t want that.”
The young girl let out a low, troubled moan.
“Where are you from, Chelsea?”
“I spent my childhood in the Verdant Empire, then came to Hope Lane with a fleet, and later was taken in by Mr. Angus as a maid.”
“What kind of person is Mr. Angus?”
“At first, when I met him, he was quite frivolous, not as successful as he is now. Back then, he only made a little money and often went to bars to drink.”
“Bars?”
“Yes, when I first arrived in Vergha, I worked at a bar, and that was when I first saw Mr. Angus.”
“Was Mr. Angus very frivolous back then?”
“Heh, indeed he was, but he was handsome. At that time, several sisters at the bar had a good impression of him.”
“He used to boast a lot about how smart and capable he was. Many guests at the bar enjoyed listening to him, though some just wanted to see him fail.”
“How did he become successful later?”
“Afterwards, Mr. Angus and his friend, who is now the head of the Yagdelin family, Jelink, went on an adventure to the southern islands.”
“They discovered ancient relics on one of the islands and handed them over to the Southern Crescent Council. The mages gave them money and a license to trade.”
“With that money, they imported spices from the south to Vergha and quickly became wealthy.”
“No wonder you trust the Yagdelin family; it turns out the current head and Mr. Angus are friends who have been through thick and thin together.”
“Yes, back then, Jelink was just an inconspicuous young member of the family. Later, he grew stronger and eventually took over as the head.”
Not long after Lolan Hill settled down in Kemp City, an invitation from the Yagdelin family arrived. Previously, they wouldn’t be so formal; a message would suffice since Angus and Jelink were old friends. But now that the Carithes family had a new master, everything followed the official procedure.
In the evening of Kemp City, the Yagdelin residence.
The night sky seemed to have flowing clouds rolling by, with the moonlight intermittently appearing and disappearing. A gentle breeze blew, dispelling the summer heat.
The Yagdelin family was a prominent local lineage that had been around for hundreds of years. Their courtyard was vast. Lolan Hill watched as the carriage traveled hundreds of meters along the stone walls before reaching the main gate. Six large firepits stood before the black iron gates, illuminating the surroundings brightly. Occasionally, carriages entered, followed by attendants calling out.
“Mr. Logan from the Jibolen family and his wife have arrived!”
“Lord Blaise, President of the Brulin Trading Guild, has arrived!”
Local nobles and major merchants dressed in fine clothes were invited, making the Yagdelin residence bustling with activity.
As the sound of horse hooves gradually faded, a luxurious redwood carriage stopped at the Yagdelin’s grand entrance. Two groups of riders stood by, waiting quietly.
Under the light of the firepits, the black flower and purple stamen emblem on the carriage was recognized by others as the symbol of the recently emerging Carithes Trading Guild in Vergha. The noisy atmosphere at the entrance calmed down, and other guests refrained from loud conversations. After all, everyone knew that the main guest of the evening banquet was Angus’ daughter and the new master of the Carithes Trading Guild.
An elderly butler in a black evening gown approached the carriage door. Everyone recognized him as Sereles, who had always been by Angus’ side.
The glass-windowed door opened, and first emerged was a light blue silk skirt, followed by shoes decorated with blue butterflies, then golden hair like the sun, and finally, the young girl lifted her head, revealing sky-blue eyes as clear as the blue sky. The breathtaking scene was like a stunning scroll from a prosperous era, leaving everyone present awestruck.
“Who is this girl?”
“I don’t know.”
Some guests began whispering.
“She should be the new master of the Carithes family, Mr. Angus’ daughter.”
“No way, can Mr. Angus’ daughter look like this?”
“I have never seen such a face before; it’s like a dream.”
“Yes, she is Mr. Angus’ daughter, Miss Lacy. I heard it from the Yagdelins; they sent out the invitation.”
A group of servants rushed out from the courtyard, quickly laying a soft red carpet between the gate and the hall. The blonde girl in the blue dress stepped onto the carpet, wearing shoes slightly darker than her dress, followed by Chelsea and Sereles. Protected by six War Sequence 2 Lan Spear Riders, they arrived at the entrance of the hall.
“You stay here.”
“Yes, Miss.”
The six Sequence 2 riders stood guard on both sides of the entrance. Then, the door opened, and the young girl, along with Sereles and Chelsea, entered the bustling hall of the banquet.
