Chapter 38: Are You Tempting Me?
“Is that so?”
Although Arthur couldn’t quite remember, he felt sure things couldn’t be that simple.
“That’s right! What else do you want?”
Airael’s rhetorical question made Arthur shut his mouth.
Well, fine.
After putting this matter aside for now, Airael and Arthur began sharing breakfast.
While eating, Arthur started chatting with Airael about other things.
“Ailia, what kind of magic was it that suppressed Mork?”
Arthur was really curious about this.
He just hadn’t had the time to ask before.
“We’re having a meal right now; let’s talk after we finish.”
Airael calmly chewed her food and only spoke after swallowing.
Then she stabbed her fork into another piece of food and took another bite.
Arthur nodded in agreement and started eating too.
As long as Ailia was willing to tell him, he could wait a little longer.
Finally done with breakfast, Arthur looked at Airael eagerly.
“That was a Magic Array!”
“A Magic Array?”
Arthur looked puzzled.
“You can think of it as a special kind of magic that has unique effects and is more powerful than regular magic.”
Airael explained.
“For example, the Magic Array I used can suppress the strength of enemies within its range, and then bind them with chains.”
Arthur nodded in understanding.
Then he continued asking:
“Are there many people who can use this special magic?”
“I don’t know; there probably aren’t too many.”
Although Airael didn’t give him a precise answer, her follow-up words still brought some comfort to Arthur.
If there were many mages who could use this magic, that would be great if they were friends, but tough if they were enemies.
After answering Arthur’s question, Airael looked at him and asked her own: “When you were in that meeting, did you discuss what to do after capturing Malong Fortress?”
“No!”
Arthur replied awkwardly.
“We never imagined we’d capture Malong Fortress so easily.”
Airael was momentarily speechless.
“Well, it seems you’ll be busy soon.”
Sure enough, that same morning, someone came to the residence to deliver Komit’s orders, saying that Arthur was to attend a meeting in the afternoon.
To this, Airael said with glee, “Looks like I was right.”
Arthur replied, “If I’m busy, I won’t be able to keep you company.”
“Who said I needed you to keep me company!”
Airael shouted, her face flushed.
“I slept just fine without you last night.”
With that, Airael held her head high, looking quite proud of herself.
Arthur glanced at Airael’s deliberately showcased attractive figure and quickly averted his gaze.
It was just too tempting.
But given his relationship with Ailia, it shouldn’t count as a crime, right?
Thinking that, Arthur’s gaze returned to Airael.
Then he reached out and pulled Airael into his embrace, relishing the soft warmth, and teased her, “Aren’t you tempting me?”
Heat rose, and Airael’s little ears turned bright red in an instant.
Not only that, but other sensitive areas were under siege as well.
That intoxicating feeling swept over her, making Airael’s defense weak: “I… I’m not tempting you! It’s clearly you who’s just thinking too much!”
“Oh really?”
With that, Arthur stopped his actions.
As the tension dissipated, Airael suddenly felt like she’d fallen from paradise straight into hell.
That feeling was unbearable.
“Why did you stop?”
Airael instinctively asked.
As soon as the question left her lips, she wished she could bury herself in the ground.
How embarrassing!
And from there, the next developments were easy to imagine.
After a round of intense action, the two lay back exhausted on the bed.
After this round, they’d completely forgotten any past unpleasantness.
Arthur held Airael close, lost in thought while Airael looked down at her belly, contemplating when she might get pregnant.
The sweet moments were brief, and soon afternoon arrived.
Arthur had to leave home to attend a meeting held by Komit.
Even though Airael’s status had risen somewhat, she still wasn’t invited to this meeting.
To that, Airael was unfazed.
Same old story; if they don’t invite her, she didn’t want to attend anyway!
With that free time, she preferred to keep practicing!
Especially with the Staff of Eternity.
She needed to study it thoroughly.
In the residence, with Celia and Aurora standing guard, Airael sat with her eyes closed on the sofa.
Before her, the Staff of Eternity hovered in mid-air.
Airael was trying to communicate with the Staff.
She believed that the Staff had a certain consciousness.
Otherwise, how could it teach her magic?
She hadn’t had the ability to realize this before.
But now it was different.
She had already entered the Hero tier.
According to Linis, she was now ready to truly inherit the title of Queen.
So, did that mean she was qualified to communicate with the Staff of Eternity?
This thought made Airael very envious.
The Staff of Eternity was definitely more than just a simple staff.
Since it was a legendary artifact, it likely carried the legacy of the previous Elven Queen.
You see, the last Elven Queen was a top-tier powerhouse in her time—an absolute world conqueror.
It was said she had surpassed the Twelve tiers and reached the divine level.
However, that also angered the gods, bringing divine punishment upon her and the Elven Race.
Airael hadn’t believe that tale before.
But the Elven Race lacked concrete historical records about it.
Slowly, it became an unsolved mystery.
However, after encountering demons, Airael couldn’t help but wonder if the gods truly existed in this world.
But thinking about gods and demons wasn’t her priority right now.
What mattered most was to see if she could establish communication with the Staff of Eternity and gain some benefits from it.
Time slowly passed.
Meanwhile, Celia and Aurora were growing increasingly anxious.
They naturally hoped Airael’s training would go smoothly.
Yet, judging by the current situation, it clearly did not.
Two hours later, Airael finally opened her eyes.
“Miss, how did it go?”
Celia immediately asked.
Airael gently shook her head, furrowing her brow as she fell into deep thought.
Why?
She clearly sensed a little consciousness from the Staff of Eternity but couldn’t establish communication.
Seeing this, Celia wisely chose not to disturb her further.
