Chapter 33: The Mightiest Attack of Airael
The sudden appearance of two chains caught Mork completely off guard.
Before he knew it, his defense had a critical opening, and his left leg was ensnared by the chains.
Electric currents coursed through them and shot into his body.
Noticing the weird sensation in his leg, Mork swung his long sword down in a flash.
With a slice, the chains were severed instantly.
Though he had temporarily regained his freedom, the action had left a gaping hole in his defense.
Seizing the opportunity, other chains launched an attack against Mork.
Mork put up a desperate defense, managing to cut down several incoming chains. However, a few managed to slip through his guard and bind him up.
Once Mork’s hands and feet were fully restrained by the iron chains, his struggles became futile.
The golden chains were incredibly sturdy; earlier, he had sliced through them as easily as chopping vegetables, thanks to the demon-slaying enchantment on his weapon.
“Rise!”
Seeing the situation, Airael smiled and issued a command.
The chains immediately lifted Mork off the ground.
Without the ground to support him, escaping became even harder for Mork.
However, he didn’t give up just yet; he continued to writhe.
The golden chains rattled under his struggles, and even the electric currents couldn’t completely paralyze his body.
This made Airael frown.
This guy’s magic resistance is seriously tough!
But can you withstand my next attack?
With her magic attack all set, a sly smile crept across Airael’s face.
Just how confident are you now, Mork?
Even though she was prepared, Airael didn’t immediately unleash her magic but instead looked at Mork and asked, “Do you have anything to say at this point?”
Others’ gazes shifted to Mork, still stunned.
Mork had been captured by Airael.
Isn’t he supposed to be strong?
Or could it be that Airael is even stronger than Mork, merely pretending to be weaker?
In truth, if Airael were to face Mork directly, she wouldn’t stand a chance.
She had taken advantage of many factors.
Arthur and his crew had restrained Mork, allowing her to use her magic safely. Plus, the Staff of Eternity granted her a powerful new spell and significant boosts. Lastly, she had caught Mork off guard.
Yet even so, she needed a certain level of skill herself.
“Do you think this will defeat me?”
Mork appeared as arrogant as ever, showing no awareness of his position as a prisoner.
“If you’re so confident, then let me see the source of that confidence,” Airael shook her head and said.
Drawing closer, she noticed Mork’s mysterious smile, her heart skipped a beat.
Could he still have a trump card up his sleeve?
No way!
Airael shook her head again, telling herself not to overthink it.
She had already started, so she had to go through with it!
It could also be that Mork was just trying to save face, attempting a bluff.
With that in mind, Airael loosened her grip on the Staff of Eternity, raising it high above her head.
“Lightning, come!”
Aside from that, she shouted with considerable flair.
And instead of falling to the ground, the Staff of Eternity hovered in the air, its gem sparkling with a dazzling light.
“Boom——!”
Then came a deep thunderclap from the sky.
As the thunder echoed, a bolt of lightning shot down, aimed straight at Airael.
In that moment, everyone was utterly bewildered.
Airael’s magic shouldn’t be targeting the bound Mork?
Why was it striking her, the caster?
Was it a magical mishap?
Soon, their questions vanished along with the sight before their eyes.
In their view, Airael stood proudly amidst the lightning.
The bolts didn’t harm her one bit; instead, they danced around her like playful children, almost as if they were cozying up to her.
Arthur was no stranger to this sight.
He knew Airael possessed such abilities.
However, he did not expect her to endure a natural lightning strike.
He certainly wouldn’t dare to take such an attack head-on.
Natural lightning wasn’t to be trifled with!
Meanwhile, while everyone was focused on Airael, her mind was solely on attacking Mork.
To unleash her mightiest attack, she couldn’t afford to be careless for even a moment.
In her raised right hand, a spear of lightning materialized out of thin air, continuously absorbing the surrounding electricity.
Once all the electricity was absorbed, the lightning spear took on a solid form.
Though it looked merely like a spear, there wasn’t a soul who doubted the explosive power contained within.
Airael grasped the lightning spear tightly, her piercing gaze locked onto Mork.
Now under the threat of such an attack, even the once-arrogant Mork couldn’t help but swallow hard.
The power of lightning was already astonishing, and now that Airael had compressed it like this…
Only those who had experienced it would truly understand its sheer strength.
And he was about to be the unfortunate wager!
What a terrible experience that would be!
“Get back!”
With the lightning spear fully formed, Airael still hadn’t unleashed her attack and called out to Arthur and Cain, who were closer to Mork.
Upon hearing Airael’s warning, Arthur and Cain bolted over to her side.
They sprinted as fast as they had before charging in blindly.
Once they were behind Airael, they both let out a breath of relief.
Even being caught in the fallout of such an attack wouldn’t be pleasant at all!
“Embrace the judgment of the lightning!”
Then, with a mighty shout, Airael hurled the lightning spear towards Mork.
In an instant, a blinding light erupted in front of them, making everyone instinctively look away and shield their eyes.
Next, a deafening explosion rang out, assaulting their ears.
What followed was a powerful shockwave that swept through the area.
Those with strong stamina managed to hold their ground—those weaker were sent staggering backwards, ultimately collapsing in a heap.
As the brilliance faded, everyone opened their eyes to see where Mork had stood moments ago.
There, a massive hole had formed in the fortress’s city wall. Clouds of white smoke rose from the ruins; the golden magic circle and chains had vanished.
Yet, in the air, a dark purple-black object remained, still crackling with residual electricity.
