Chapter 188: Do You Like Me?
“Is something wrong?”
Airael lay with her back to Arthur, not moving an inch as she replied.
After a moment’s pause, Arthur mustered his courage and asked, “Do you like me?”
Previously, Airael had posed this very question to him.
His answer was “like,” and from that point on, everything began.
It was a classic case of rushing in first and sorting things out later, but he ultimately took responsibility.
Yet, he realized he might have overlooked Airael’s true feelings about it all.
So, did Airael like him?
Arthur had thought that she most certainly liked him.
Otherwise, why would she be so clingy? After everything that happened, she just naturally ended up with him.
But now, Arthur felt he couldn’t think that way anymore.
“Why are you asking… this?”
Airael’s heart raced for a moment, and her tone became somewhat awkward.
“Nothing, just curious,” Arthur replied, leaning in closer and wrapping his arms around Airael’s body from behind under the covers.
It was as if he wanted to use his body to warm her heart, hoping for a satisfying answer.
“Is it really that important?”
Airael countered.
She still faced away from Arthur, seemingly unfazed by his actions.
But inside, her heart was in disarray.
Did she like Arthur?
She was questioning herself in her mind.
Yet she didn’t have a clear answer.
But one thing she was sure of.
She quite admired Arthur.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have chosen him to be the father of her child.
Moreover, after becoming the so-called Elven Queen in this world, she had imagined marrying and having children, but she never thought she would actually fall for a man.
“It is important!”
Arthur replied.
His heart was also in turmoil.
He already had a guess about Airael’s answer.
“Do you want the truth or a lie?”
Airael turned to look at Arthur and asked.
At this moment, her heart had calmed down considerably.
Whether she liked Arthur or not, the relationship they had was not something that should end just yet.
After all, she hadn’t successfully conceived their child yet.
If that didn’t work out, all her efforts would truly be in vain.
Faced with Airael’s question, Arthur was momentarily stunned.
He didn’t know what Airael was thinking or why she suddenly asked that.
“Truth!”
However, Arthur quickly snapped back and replied.
“The truth is, I don’t know!”
Airael responded cheerfully.
“Furthermore, I need to rest well. There’s a torturous banquet waiting for me tonight! You can hold me like this, but no funny business. If I catch you, you better watch out…”
As she spoke, the cold hint in Airael’s tone fell silent.
Then Arthur felt something bump against him from her leg.
Hearing that, Arthur felt a chill run down his spine.
Any physiological reaction he had was instantly subdued.
The room then became very quiet.
In Arthur’s arms, Airael quickly fell asleep, resting peacefully.
As for Arthur, he was wide awake.
Although Airael’s answer was beyond his previous guesses, it didn’t provide him with the peace he had hoped for.
Arthur gazed down at the peacefully sleeping Airael in his arms, his eyes lingering there for quite some time.
Suddenly, he noticed the emerald necklace around Airael’s neck.
In his memory, that necklace always seemed to be attached to Airael.
He hadn’t paid it much mind before.
After all, most of his attention had been elsewhere at that time.
But after a brief glance, he shifted his gaze away.
The necklace was beautiful, but it couldn’t compete with the one wearing it.
He feared if he kept looking, he wouldn’t be admiring the necklace anymore.
He clearly remembered Airael’s warning from earlier…
…
Upon waking up, Airael felt refreshed and full of energy.
She sat up in bed and discovered no one was beside her anymore.
Frowning slightly, she put on the clothes next to her and casually cast a cleaning magic on herself.
Now looking revitalized, Airael hopped out of bed barefoot.
Her fair little feet stepped on the soft floor as she approached the window, then she pulled open the curtains.
Light immediately flooded in.
However, the room didn’t brighten much, as the sky had nearly darkened completely.
“Wow, it’s already this late! The banquet must be starting soon.”
Thinking of the evening’s banquet, Airael’s little face fell.
If possible, she really didn’t want to go to such a place.
Because there were just too many hypocritical people inside, and nearly everyone wore a mask for themselves.
Aside from that, even though banquets appeared flashy, many were just large “social events.”
People would scout out their targets at such events.
But whether she wanted to go or not, she had to!
In the end, Airael could only force herself to muster some spirit and turned to put on her shoes, socks, and outer garment.
Just as she finished dressing and was about to head out, the door burst open from the outside.
Arthur looked at Airael with a hint of surprise, saying, “Ailia, you’re awake!”
“Yeah! Isn’t the banquet about to start?”
“That’s right, I came to get you.”
“I’m all set.”
Seeing Airael still covered up quite thoroughly, Arthur nodded.
Though it was somewhat against the rules, it was for the best.
Otherwise, with how Airael looked, she would inevitably attract unwanted attention.
Additionally, the banquet didn’t strictly require everyone to wear formal attire.
As Airael and Arthur appeared in the banquet hall, naturally, they attracted everyone’s attention.
Before them, Cain had already arrived in the banquet hall.
The people from the North knew a bit about Cain.
They were aware of some stories between him and Arthur.
Although he had lost to Arthur, with his decent looks and strength, he still drew many gazes.
For instance, at this moment, he was surrounded by a group of young ladies and noblewomen.
“You go handle them; I’m going to find a corner to stay in.”
After saying that to Arthur, Airael walked away.
In this banquet, Arthur was still the actual main character.
She strolled slowly within the banquet hall.
Though people’s gazes were on her, they didn’t know how to approach her for conversation.
Moreover, her outfit today was rather unconventional.
Eventually, it was Cain who managed to escape the clutches of the young ladies and noblewomen, making his way to Airael.
However, Airael did not initiate any conversation with him.
Although she was in the corner, her gaze was still scanning the nearby situation out of boredom.
