Chapter 184: The Turn of the Tide

Chapter 184: The Turn of the Tide

The scene left the humans feeling quite anxious for Airael.

But worrying did no good; Airael’s ice spear didn’t have the intended effect—nothing changed.

Before long, Airael’s summoned ice spear was completely depleted.

This round of attack certainly wasn’t as effective as the last.

Seeing this, Mork paused and looked at Airael, chuckling, “You think I’ll fall for the same trick twice?”

His mocking words deflated the morale of Airael’s side a bit.

“Hey, I’m telling you, don’t underestimate a mage! Underestimating a mage could cost you dearly!”

Airael’s sudden declaration left Mork momentarily stunned, his smile freezing on his face.

That overly confident tone forced him to consider whether Airael had a hidden trick up her sleeve.

He scanned the area, but aside from some ice fragments, there was nothing to see.

Just when Mork thought he had been tricked by Airael, those scattered ice shards suddenly stirred to life.

They were drawn toward Mork with an invisible force, gathering rapidly.

The unexpected change caught Mork off guard.

He looked around again, now surrounded by invading ice shards.

Aside from that, he couldn’t see anything else, his eyes full of those previously overlooked ice fragments.

These ice shards, which he hadn’t taken seriously before, now became something that could cost him dearly.

“Ding ding ding!…”

In the next moment, before Mork could react, the ice shards began relentlessly striking against him, producing bright, melodious sounds.

Though their power wasn’t significant and didn’t deal much real damage, the cold they induced severely affected Mork.

Amidst the continuous impacts and the chill they so generously provided, Mork found it hard to even move.

His entire body froze in place.

Quickly, a thin layer of ice crystallized over his skin.

Once the flurry of ice shards ceased, what stood before everyone was Mork, transformed into a lifelike ice statue.

He looked far worse than before.

Seeing the frozen Mork, the Dark Elf side stirred restlessly.

“General!”

A Dark Elf rushed forward to save Mork.

But the humans were quick to react as well.

Cain was the first to charge forward to block them.

Following suit, the Human Soldiers also surged forth.

On the inner fortress wall, Mondi observed the situation below and shouted to his soldiers, “Soldiers, let’s charge down together! The good days for these Dark Elves are over—now it’s time for us to wash away the shame!”

The scene instantly became lively.

No one expected Airael to pull such a reversal out of nowhere.

She had frozen Mork, an indomitable force to them, into an ice sculpture!

However, Airael herself was far from as optimistic as the human soldiers.

Though she had successfully trapped Mork, she could feel he hadn’t been defeated.

Mork was merely temporarily trapped by her.

But that was enough.

Watching the human soldiers’ morale soar, Airael sighed in her heart.

To be able to keep Mork restrained for a moment was a moment gained; as long as Mork couldn’t support the Dark Elves, those Dark Elves would struggle to make any waves against them.

As the battle between humans and elves erupted once more, it unfolded just as Airael had anticipated.

The elves not only lacked numbers, but were also somewhat fatigued, and on top of that, their general was currently unaccounted for.

This collection of factors put the Dark Elves at a disadvantage.

In contrast, the humans had faced a great disadvantage before, beaten back to the edge of defeat, yet now with this sudden reversal, the soldiers’ spirits soared high.

Where there had been despair, now there was hope.

Life had thrown another dramatic twist their way.

The Dark Elf frontline was continually compressed by the humans.

Yet they steadfastly protected Mork, forming a defensive circle around him.

Seeing their side unable to break through the enemy’s lines, Cain glanced at his own disorganized ranks from the earlier chaos and shouted, “Everyone fall back! Rearrange the formation! Rearrange the formation!”

The booming voice caused the human soldiers to halt their fighting, aligning themselves as commanded.

Alas, during the reorganization, some rather awkward situations were bound to occur.

Many soldiers had no idea where they should stand.

These soldiers didn’t all come from the same unit; previously, they had belonged to different divisions.

Fortunately, the Dark Elves had no intention of launching an attack; their goal was simply to guard the frozen Mork.

“Everyone hold on! The general will break out of the ice soon! Just hold until he does, and we’ll regain the advantage!”

At the heart of the Dark Elf formation, one of them glanced at the ice statue that was once Mork and spoke to the others nearby.

“Everyone, stand still where you are! No moving around! Just regroup right where you are, stand orderly front, back, left, and right!”

Observing her chaotic side in comparison to the enemy’s tight formation, Airael yelled out.

It was hard to imagine that just moments ago, this very team had been pushing the Dark Elves back, forcing them to defend.

Airael’s call had some effect.

The soldiers were keen to heed the words of a strong leader.

Just earlier, Airael had used magic to freeze Mork, allowing them to glimpse the possibility of victory.

Watching as their ranks finally took shape, Airael nodded with satisfaction, then turned her attention back to the Dark Elves—specifically, the icy figure that was still Mork.

Through the connection she maintained with the ice statue, Airael sensed that Mork was on the brink of breaking free.

While she felt a twinge of regret, she also knew that having confined him for this long was enough.

And even if Mork broke free, it wouldn’t be easy for him to turn the tables now.

She and Cain could hold him off.

Moreover, he hadn’t brought anyone capable of aiding him.

Although the Dark Elves he’d brought were indeed elite, they were still slightly lacking, unable to effectively assist him in dealing with her and Cain.
