Chapter 80 Captain Gray
Pasifal immediately frowned: “Uncle Pagos, I really can’t carry anymore!”
“Then starting tomorrow, you’ll double your blacksmithing quota until you can carry two hundred pounds.”
He pushed Pasifal away, then stretched out his right hand and grabbed the handle of the giant scythe. His bear-like muscular arm suddenly bulged, and he lifted it with one hand.
His face showed ease, as if handling it was effortless.
“Step back a bit.”
The Duke and I took a few steps back. Pagos gripped the end of the scythe’s handle tightly. The muscles in his arm swelled again, and he swung the weapon downward forcefully.
Clang!
The folded handle clicked together, and the blade, which was originally pressed against the handle, stood up straight. In an instant, a two-meter-long giant scythe was formed.
The entire scythe was pitch-black, with no extravagant decorations or designs. The half-meter-long scythe blade flashed in the firelight, and Pagos turned the blade, tapping the handle lightly on the ground.
Clang.
A dull sound echoed.
“Peipei, give it a try.”
“Okay.”
I stepped forward, taking the giant scythe from Pagos’ hand. Just as he let go, the heavy weight hit me, and I immediately crouched down.
Even though I had mentally prepared myself, I still underestimated its weight, despite being used to lighter weapons.
“Be careful,” the Duke couldn’t help but remind me. “Can you manage?”
I took a deep breath, loosened my left hand from the handle, and suddenly exerted force with my right, lifting it up.
“My God!” Pasifal exclaimed. “When this thing appeared, I thought you were joking… Peipei, when did you become so strong—”
I glared at him.
Slap!
Pasifal slapped himself in the mouth.
“I didn’t say anything!”
…That’s better.
I held the scythe horizontally, feeling its weight in my palm. It felt good, but this weight… it would take some time to get used to.
Next, I carefully examined the blade.
The pure black handle was adorned with countless tiny sun patterns quietly blooming. The handle began to curve into a crescent shape about twenty centimeters from the end, and there were two trigger-like mechanisms set into the groove at the bottom of the crescent.
“Try pulling one of those triggers,” Pagos said beside me. “Don’t point the blade at yourself.”
I nodded and extended my little finger to pull one of the triggers.
Click-click-click—
I heard a soft sound of gears turning, and the giant scythe trembled slightly in my hand. The next moment, the blade, which had been at a ninety-degree angle to the handle, snapped upright, aligning with the handle. The scythe instantly transformed into a spear.
“Woah!”
I was startled and couldn’t help but exclaim.
“If you pull the same trigger again, it will turn back into a scythe.”
So I pulled the same trigger again with my little finger.
Click-click-click—
The blade rotated, and the handle trembled again. Sure enough, the weapon reverted to its scythe form.
“This weapon can change into three forms according to the user’s needs. A scythe is one form, a spear is another, and there’s a third… try pulling the other trigger.”
There’s actually a third form… let’s see what happens.
Click-click-click—
The handle split into countless small segments the length of fingers, and long chains emerged from within. Then, with a loud bang, the blade fell to the ground, and the weapon instantly transformed into a chain-scythe.
“When in chain-scythe form, the total length with the handle and chain can reach five meters. If it’s in spear form, the attack range extends by another half meter… how does it feel? Does it meet your requirements?”
I nodded repeatedly, and once more, I pulled the trigger.
The handle immediately started to retract, and the chains rattled against the handle. It only took a moment for
He put it all back into the handle, and the weapon returned to its scythe form.
“How amazing! Really, so amazing.”
This was simply a delightful surprise.
Originally, I just needed a good, durable scythe; but now, the one in my hand… The technology of the Central Workshop is too powerful. This exquisite craftsmanship can be called an art piece, though it is somewhat complex. To use it well, I definitely need more practice.
“Thank you!”
I held the weapon excitedly, unable to let go. Such things are truly captivating.
“If you like it.” The Duke saw me happy and smiled as well, “Alright, the thirteenth moon blade of the Central Workshop has officially been created. As per tradition, the user needs to give it a name.”
… Need to name it?
Why wasn’t this mentioned earlier?
If it had been mentioned sooner, I could have thought about it in advance and come up with a more domineering name, such as “Beheading Carlos” or “Crushing Carlos with a Hammer”…
“Can I name it when I get back?”
“That’s fine, but you’ll need to bring it over again so I can engrave the name on the handle,” Pargos said.
This is so troublesome, I have to come back again… Who would want to come to such a place?
What should I name it?
Looking at the huge scythe in my hand, for some reason, I thought of the captain in a story who had no ship.
“Captain Gray.”
That will do.
Percival’s face darkened, “Pepe, are you sure you want to call it that? It’s such a magnificent weapon… although this is indeed your naming style…”
I frowned.
“Just call it that.”
“Hmm, why don’t you consider something else… How about ‘Abyss Terminator’ or ‘Blood Drinker’? That’s so majestic!”
“Hahaha—, Pepe likes it, so why do you butt in?” The Duke patted his head, “She can call it whatever she wants. I think ‘Captain Gray’ sounds pretty good.”
Hearing this, I looked at him smugly.
The Duke has great taste.
Engraving the name didn’t take much time. Pargos took the scythe to the foundry, and soon he came out. I folded the weapon and put it back into the leather case.
The leather case had an adjustable strap on the left side. I slung the case over my shoulder, finding it perfectly fitted. Although my petite body was completely covered, my head and ankles were just visible.
After a few small jumps and feeling no discomfort, I left the Central Workshop with the Duke.
…………
Life seemed to return to normal.
Every morning, I still sparred with the Duke, mainly to practice my weapon. Mastering its use wasn’t easy because it meant I needed to proficiently wield a scythe, spear, and lock-scythe, and switch between them seamlessly.
This was a very difficult task, and all I could do was work hard.
I had learned most of Lady’s etiquette lessons, and she no longer forced me to continue these tasks. However, I started learning how to make desserts from her because I would soon leave, and after leaving, I wouldn’t be able to eat Captain Gray anymore. So, at least before I left, I wanted to learn this.
In my previous life, I knew nothing about cooking… or perhaps I just didn’t put effort into it. I was always busy with work and had no time to experience life. I ate mostly outside for every meal, and even though I never skimped on food, there was always something missing.
Back then, I didn’t know what was missing, but now, I felt it through Lady.
It was the human touch.
So here, I learned quickly and genuinely enjoyed making sweets. Soon, I could make many desserts without Lady’s supervision.
