Chapter 232: An Apocalypse Close to Dying from Heat
Jiangcheng No.1 High School, one of the most prestigious high schools in the country, has had campus stars like Xia Yuan before. After people marvel at others’ wonderful lives, they return to their own daily routines.
Xia Yuan isn’t constantly under various gazes anymore, and there are no fans seeking her autograph. People have gradually become accustomed to coexisting with her, and she hasn’t become arrogant despite her rising popularity. She continues to spend time with Lin You Xi and Mei Fang, enjoying their childhood memories.
With Mei Yue handling the company’s affairs, Mei Fang focused his energy on developing “Cloud Journey.”
Apart from the art resources progressing relatively slowly due to Guo Yun’s efforts, all other tasks were proceeding smoothly.
Xia Yuan’s album “Yuan Xi Together” quickly gained popularity through C Station and continued to gain traction on Penguin Music, creating a wildfire effect.
At least until June 2012, “Naked Face” had already entered the top three of the hot songs chart, and other songs also performed well due to its influence.
During this period, many record companies tried to contact Xia Yuan for collaboration, but Mei Fang politely declined them one by one.
Everyone joked that Mei Fang was now Xia Yuan’s agent, which wasn’t far from his actual role.
Thus, amidst a busy yet sweet daily life, the summer of 2012 arrived swiftly.
The month of June in Jiangcheng was unusually hot, and the topic of the end of the world was the talk of the town.
According to some Mayan prophecy, the world would end on December 21, 2012. Mei Fang saw such pranks posted in the school’s bulletin boards and even class discussions about the apocalypse began.
Wang Jiayu, a well-known novelist in Class 3, initiated a discussion titled “[If the world ends in three days, how will you spend these three days].” He wrote this in his beautiful notebook, and everyone wrote down their thoughts as it circulated.
When it reached Mei Fang, the notebook was filled with strange messages, some saying they wanted to spend three days with their loved ones, others stating they’d live freely, and some saying they had nothing to worry about.
Although most treated the end of the world as a casual topic, a few genuinely considered what they would do if it happened and made preparations.
This certainty came from Mei Fang being one of those few in his past life.
He couldn’t recall why he did so, but it felt like a waste of his youth if he didn’t prepare.
Mei Fang enjoyed watching zombie movies and disaster films. In high school, he saved up his meal card money to buy compressed biscuits and emergency supplies, learned survival tips, and even convinced his deskmate Liu Xiaoyu to join him.
Liu Xiaoyu enthusiastically helped him compile a manual for surviving the end of the world, but when they checked online, they found others had written more detailed guides.
Mei Fang started following the manual, while Liu Xiaoyu was busy with other things.
But Mei Fang’s finances were limited, so he could only stock up on a small portion of food, water, and basic necessities. With his studies becoming busier, he lost interest and stopped.
That experience wasn’t entirely regrettable. He vividly remembered his young self back then, but now he was doing different things, feeling a bit nostalgic.
Mei Fang glanced over the notes but didn’t read further since his content would be obvious.
He handed the notebook to Xiang Bingbing: “Bingbing, this seems to be for Wang Jiayu to gather material. Do you want to write something?”
“I don’t want this. I’m almost dying from heat… If it gets any hotter, I’ll face an apocalypse first.”
Xiang Bingbing slumped onto the desk, losing her usual vitality.
“The school might allow air conditioning in July. You have to endure a bit longer.”
“I can’t bear it. What’s the use of a fan? How is Jiangcheng so much hotter than Shennongjia… It feels like I’m being roasted alive. Xiang Bingbing is turning into a kebab!”
“Huh… just having air conditioning is great. Our county high school doesn’t even have them.”
“Our Shennongjia doesn’t either, but it’s cool.”
“Forest area is like that…”
Xiang Bingbing looked at Mei Fang pitifully, “Little Brother Mei Fang, I want to sleep well at noon today.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“But my pillow is inflatable and it’s hot. Even putting water in it doesn’t help. Your pillow is cooling. Can I borrow it for my nap? Please?”
“If it’s mine, I’d lend it to you…”
Mei Fang looked troubled, “It’s something Yuanyuan gave me. She told me only I could use it and not lend it out.”
“Then I’ll talk to Yuanyuan after class. I’m melting right now!”
“What kind of weird analogy is that…”
“Oh, if it weren’t for the school rules, I’d wear my thermal vest to class. It’s unbearable!”
“What nonsense are you talking? Don’t go crazy here.”
“Why do you always say such strange words!”
Mei Fang understood Xiang Bingbing’s suffering. Summer was always the hardest time for students. The young students with air conditioners in 2022 couldn’t imagine what their predecessors did to cool off.
Some would purposely expose themselves to cool down, sitting near the fan.
During naptime, some students would stick wet wipes on themselves, while others sprayed themselves with water.
Those without wet wipes would tear paper towels into strips and stick them on their faces, arms, and hands, looking like little zombies.
Mei Fang remembered they used to apply tiger balm for cooling, filling the classroom with its strong scent and making everyone uncomfortable.
Only a few clever students would pretend to ask questions in the teacher’s office where the air conditioning was always on.
After asking questions, they wouldn’t leave immediately but would chat and take a nap, enjoying the simple pleasure of air conditioning.
The hot weather also affected Mei Fang’s super energy transmission. Even the most loving couples struggled to embrace each other in such heat.
So Mei Fang and the two little ones changed their intimate times to be at home.
Aunt Meijuan had a stable shower time, around 8-15 minutes, allowing Mei Fang to spend a few minutes with Xia Yuan.
After showering, Xia Yuan was soft and fragrant, making Mei Fang enjoy the moment.
But today, Xia Yuan seemed inspired by the “2012” topic in her class.
She whispered, “Speaking of which, we haven’t watched the movie about the end of the world yet. There’s a new 3D remake this weekend. Let’s watch it together?”
I’m so sleepy.
