Chapter 29: You Are Being Too Extreme

Bai Fu’s premonition was correct. After realizing something was amiss, the leader of the Wildfire Gang immediately instructed all his subordinates to be more vigilant.

Within just one day, the Wildfire Gang discovered that many of the outsiders were twins, triplets, and even quadruplets.

This was indeed too outrageous; how could twins be so easily born?

The Wildfire Gang leader could only think of two possible explanations.

First, these outsiders were not normal humans but clones. When one died, another clone would take their place immediately.

Second, these outsiders could resurrect after death.

If he had to choose between the two explanations as the true answer, he would lean towards the first. Compared to resurrection, cloning technology was more scientific, easier to achieve, and more acceptable to people.

However, things were clearly not so simple. One question had been troubling the Wildfire Gang leader.

These outsiders did not show any signs of training. Although they were not obese, they had the physique of overworked drones from large settlements. Yet, they were more fearless than trained martyrs.

Was this reasonable?

Unless these outsiders knew they could resurrect even if they died, there was no other explanation.

There was an old saying in the abandoned cooling plant—

When you have eliminated all the impossible factors, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.

“So, the truth is that the outsiders can resurrect!”

The Wildfire Gang leader was shaken to the core. He dared not reveal this truth. In previous battles, the ordinary members of the Wildfire Gang had already been driven to near madness by the outsiders’ shameless tactics. If they suddenly learned that they were facing a group of undead, they might scatter in fear immediately.

In that case, the Wildfire Gang he had worked hard to build would collapse.

“What kind of devils have we provoked?!”

They possessed invincibility, a bottomless moral底线, surprisingly high cultural levels, and limitless growth potential.

To the Wildfire Gang leader, provoking such outsiders was no different from encountering a catastrophe that could destroy the entire settlement!

He regretted speaking loudly when he first met the outsiders, but it was too late now. Unless he could go back in time with his memories, he would still make the same choice upon discovering the outsiders stealing his supplies.

Who could have imagined that these outsiders were so terrifying?

It was only because their appearance and cheerful demeanor were so misleading!

The Wildfire Gang leader was on the verge of losing his mind.

He looked at an inconspicuous hidden door within the gang. At this moment, he could only rely on those people.

After instructing his subordinates not to run around, he quickly entered the hidden door.

Underneath the hidden door was a long, narrow white corridor leading to a thick iron door. Upon opening it, he saw an old-looking laboratory.

“Doctor Yulia!”

The Wildfire Gang leader looked around and finally fixed his gaze on a person wearing thick protective gear. That was the woman who had accompanied him to check on Cao Wenliang’s death a few days ago.

He hurried forward, but was stopped by two burly men guarding the laboratory entrance before he could take two steps.

Yulia turned around, “Let him go, he came rushing here for a reason.”

The two burly men only smiled but did not move their hands.

Yulia remained calm, not at all angry about her words being ignored, “What do you want?”

The Wildfire Gang leader quickly shared his discovery.

“The situation is very bad. Once something happens to the Wildfire Gang, this laboratory will…”

Before he could finish, the two burly men burst out laughing.

“Undead, are you telling us a myth story? Hahaha!”

“Seven, if I’m not mistaken, he seemed to be threatening us?”

No, I didn’t…

The Wildfire Gang leader was drenched in sweat.

Although he was being challenged, he dared not resist. The three people in front of him belonged to an organization— the Truth Society—that even Lin En from the large settlement feared.

A hundred years ago, a global war erupted on Source Star, almost destroying everything. In the subsequent century, humans rebuilt civilization under the dual threat of pollution and mutant lifeforms. Now, five superpowers controlled numerous settlements and shelters.

These five powers were the Gene Progenitors, the Former Republic, the Railway Guild, the People’s Alliance, and the Truth Society.

Among them, the Truth Society was the most unique. No one knew where its headquarters were or who its leader was, but every time its members appeared, they brought about countless deaths.

Due to this nature, the Truth Society naturally became the enemy of all factions. Even the People’s Alliance, which aimed to maintain human bloodlines and eliminate all impure lifeforms, found the Truth Society a bit too extreme!

The Wildfire Gang leader never thought he would ever cross paths with the Truth Society.

But over a month ago, while he was inventorying supplies in the gang, these three people suddenly barged in. They claimed to be from the Truth Society and asked him to help with something to avoid detection by people from Lin En. They also promised to recommend him for membership if successful.

At first, he didn’t believe them, but then the burly man with the codename Seven pulled out a spherical device. In that instant, he felt like he was under some kind of paralyzing spell, his body and space firmly fixed, unable to move.

That was the first time he felt utter despair.

Having spent a lifetime in the underworld, he had faced death threats many times, but only this time did he see no way out, as he couldn’t even understand what his opponent was doing.

The unknown was the greatest fear!

Under pressure and out of desire for advancement, the Wildfire Gang leader agreed to help.

In a small place like the abandoned cooling plant, no matter how much he struggled, he would never rise above. In the eyes of the big shots, he wasn’t even worth a bug.

If there was no chance, he would have given up. But when opportunity presented itself, he had to try to climb up.

But this path was difficult.

Even though he had done his best, these two guards never treated him well, except for Yulia, who was somewhat nicer.

This time, Yulia stepped in to defuse the situation: “Enough, what’s so funny? Can you guarantee that he’s not telling the truth? Don’t underestimate the Gene Progenitors’ technology.”

The abandoned cooling plant and Lin En were both under the control of the Gene Progenitors, who were famous for their research on mutants.

“I don’t know the technical details, but you’re the expert.”

Seven grinned, seemingly smiling but actually hiding anger.

Yulia was not intimidated by his gaze, “Investigate and find out if those outsiders are related to the Gene Progenitors. If they are, we can’t stay here.”

Seven did not move.

Yulia’s eyes turned cold, “If the mission fails, do you think the headmaster will target you first or me?”

Seven fell silent for a while, “Then I’ll just do a little reconnaissance.”

He shrugged and walked past the Wildfire Gang leader.

“I…” The Wildfire Gang leader felt awkward.

Yulia said, “Notify me if anything else happens.”

This was a subtle dismissal. The Wildfire Gang leader left gracefully, feeling anxious. This time, he had thoroughly offended Seven.

Once things settled down, with Seven’s even more extreme personality compared to Cao Wenliang, he would definitely come back for trouble.

In terms of strength, he was no match for Seven with the spherical device. In terms of background, he was even less of a match.

Although Yulia had promised to recommend him to the Truth Society, judging from Seven’s attitude towards her, she probably couldn’t protect him.

“Crap!”

At this point, the Wildfire Gang leader realized he had only one option left.

Come on, you undead outsider, kill Seven, this reckless fool, for me!

After exiting the hidden door, the Wildfire Gang leader encountered Bai Fu who was turning in a quest.

“You’ve collected them so quickly? Good, good, good.”

He nodded repeatedly. He had no mood to ask Bai Fu how she had gathered the poison sacs.

This was somewhat unexpected for Bai Fu, who had prepared several excuses beforehand, but since the Wildfire Gang leader didn’t ask, she didn’t need to elaborate.

[You completed the faction quest [Material Collection (Special)], earning 10,000 experience points and 20 faction reputation.]

Bai Fu didn’t hesitate and upgraded her Spirit Apprentice to Level 8, then added the remaining 2 attribute points to Constitution.

Her stats changed.

[Template]: Ordinary

[Experience]: 2751

[Main Class]: Spirit Apprentice Level 8 (0/10000), Vagrant Level 5 (max level)

[Sub-Class]: None

[Health Points]: 290/290

[Spirit Energy]: 60/60

[Attributes]: Strength 7, Agility 5, Constitution 26, Intelligence 3, Spirit 12, Inspiration 12

Faction reputation increased from 22 to 42, which was not low.

Bai Fu noticed that the Wildfire Gang leader was much more enthusiastic towards her than before.

“Boss, do you have any other tasks for me?”

Now, she was in a close collaboration phase with the player, wanting to seize the opportunity and complete more quests to quickly level up her Spirit Apprentice to Level 10 and seek advanced knowledge.

The Wildfire Gang leader shook his head, “You’ve been busy for days. Take a rest first. I’ll call you when there are other tasks.”

Too bad.

Bai Fu could only look for other places to see if she could pick up some quests.

After bidding farewell to the Wildfire Gang leader, she went to the library and took out the book she had previously discovered, “Basic Fist Techniques.”

She chose this book of professional knowledge for two main reasons.

The most direct reason was that it was the profession knowledge book that maximized the player’s combat effectiveness at this stage.

Other profession knowledge books, like “Gun Assembly” or “Special Agent Tips,” couldn’t be said to be unimpressive, but they lacked the versatility of “Basic Fist Techniques.”

After all, once you become a gunman, you need to get a gun, and as a special agent, you need to find special equipment.

Learning “Basic Fist Techniques” didn’t have such issues. Even if you hadn’t practiced boxing, you wouldn’t have trouble using skills.

The second reason Bai Fu chose “Basic Fist Techniques” was that the book was thin, with only twenty pages, and each page was mostly illustrated with minimal text, making it perfect for copying.

Yes.

Bai Fu didn’t intend to give the original “Basic Fist Techniques” to the player but planned to copy it herself.

Since she borrowed the book from the Wildfire Gang library, returning it was straightforward. Keeping it without returning it would result in a scolding, but if her relationship with the player was discovered, it would be worse.

Moreover, players were already saying that she was going to steal a profession knowledge book. She had to meet their expectations.

Though taking the original would also be considered stealing, it would seem too easy. It was better to say she “secretly copied” a version, which made it more touching.

Bai Fu was right.

When she handed the hand-drawn “Basic Fist Techniques” to Jiu Jiao, both the players around Jiu Jiao and those watching the livestream were deeply moved.

[Damn, I can’t imagine how much effort and risk Bai Fu put into copying this profession knowledge book.]

[No one can stop her now, not even the giant mech in the promotional video. Bai Fu is number one!]

[True, the giant mech is cool, but I can’t use it. Bai Fu, however, not only gave me money but also the profession knowledge book. I was worried about how to change my class.]

[Wow, truly a blessing!]

[Bai Fu: I want to create a world where every player can easily change classes!]

[Baimen!]

Amidst laughter and joy, Bai Fu was almost deified.

Although the game had been running for about ten days, the number of players obtaining new classes was not significant.

With this wave, Bai Fu directly gave all the players who had helped her collect poison sacs the opportunity to change classes. Not only did she bring in a lot of popularity, but she also did positive promotion.

[Boosting NPC affinity makes a difference. If Bai Fu’s affinity with treasure hunting was in single digits, she wouldn’t even give the 200 credits, let alone the profession knowledge book.]

Many players had already decided that next time they encounter Bai Fu, they would first boost her affinity!

Bai Fu was satisfied.

While one player could only give her a small benefit, the collective contributions of millions of players amounted to astronomical numbers.

“You guys continue learning. I have to go. The Wildfire Gang is keeping a tight watch lately, and my identity can’t be exposed.”

Bai Fu found an excuse to leave.

She had no time to chat idly with the players now. She needed to find nearby experience-grinding quests. She was still 20,000 experience points away from leveling her Spirit Apprentice to Level 10.

When she reached the street near the shopping district, Bai Fu stopped.

On the roadside.

A burly man, obviously different from the usual style of the abandoned cooling plant, grabbed a vendor’s neck.

“Tell me where the outsiders are hiding, or I’ll kill you right now.”

Bai Fu was shocked.

Although there were many aggressive people in the abandoned cooling plant, she had never seen anyone as extreme as this man.

Fortunately, this man was dealing with a player who was even more extreme, so she wasn’t worried. She was curious about his identity, having no recollection of him.

Bai Fu threw a Spirit Vision at the burly man.

Who Made Her an NPC?!

Who Made Her an NPC?!

Status: Ongoing

What should you do if you suddenly transform into a random NPC in the beginner’s village—one who could die at any moment?

At first, Bai Fu was just trying to survive. She farmed goodwill from players, hoping to use their power to suppress the NPCs who were giving her trouble. But she didn’t expect to overdo it.

From "the players' most reliable support" to "the lonely guardian of the border", and finally to "the first saint in the empire’s turbulent era", the players, in their sheer enthusiasm, hoisted her all the way to divinity.

In the empire’s thirtieth millennium, a former emperor—who preferred to remain anonymous—spoke out in a heated interview:

"Those damn immortals charged into the palace, shouting about friendship and bonds, and forcibly placed my crown on that demon Bai Fu’s head. It’s a crime against nature!"

Bai Fu, in response to these accusations, was indignant.

"A demon? Me? From start to finish, I’ve always preached love and justice. Don’t slander me with baseless claims... It was tough for me too! Maybe instead of blaming others, you should reflect on yourselves. After all these years, have you ever truly acted like decent people? Why do you think the immortals only attacked you and not me?"
